Am I missing something in September?
My middle daughter turns 10 on September 21st and I'm toying with the idea of capitalizing on Southwest's $40 flight from Sacramento to surprise her with a Disneyland trip. I checked on hotel prices and they are quite expensive--in the $350 to $500 range for the Disneyland Hotel. I thought that prices might go down for the off-season, and I don't see any major conventions in town then. Am I missing something, or is mid-September not really the off-season? I appreciate any insight you can provide!

Halloween Time began September 17 in 2010 and is a big draw.
Your attention, please. The Disneyland Limited now leaving for a grand circle tour of the Magic Kingdom. Aboaaard!

I don't think there is as much of an "off season" as there used to be. Are all the area hotels similarly high or just the Disney ones? If all the hotels are high, there is probably a Convention or similar going on and you may be out of luck. If it's just Disney, it could be that they have not yet released the discounts for that time period and what you see are their standard rates with possible discounts to follow (space available, of course). If the other hotels are reasonably priced (and you are willing to stay off-site if needed) I would make a reservation elsewhere and keep checking to see if a discount rate appears.

They have not posted Fall discounts yet. I have called them about it and they said the rates won't be out for a while yet. If you have triple AAA they are giving great discounts at the resort but those aren't posted yet either. There is a special going on right now so you might want to check in with AAA. I can't remember the dates for the current promo.

I would book the flights and worry later about the hotel. That's what I did. I booked our flights from Sac to SNA for October and will worry about getting the hotel rooms later in the summer when the fall rates are posted.

This sept. you may be missing Screamin, Indy, and Pirates (according to Al Lutz most recent blog, those rides will be down in Sept). He says pirates will be down from labor day to early Nov... Indy may just be a shorter rehab.

Wow that will change everything for us. I wonder when they will make it official. I might wait to book my trip until right before. We were planning on going Sept 22 to 30. Those are three of my favorite rides.

We went in September back in 2008. Prices were ok. We just went this April 2011 and our hotel was cheaper. Weather was really nice when we went 10-13. Only started to sprinkle one evening. Check Ramada Inn Maingate on South Harbor, their website is listing current specials until December. They are pretty good. Our family likes to stay there, close and the rooms were clean.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I think I may just book now and try to get a hotel later. Can't pass up the opportunity to surprise DD with a drive from school to the airport to Disneyland on her 10th birthday!

lol, we'll be doing something similar on our february trip 2/5-2/10...dd's birthday is 2/5, and ds's is 2/11. dd will be 5 and has an AP, but ds will be 3, so we're going to celebrate his birthday on 2/10, and won't have to pay for him!
