But when does the regular luau end, Mary. $100 for two hours of bus does seem spendy - BUT if the end of the luau is going to be cutting it close to getting back to the ship - then if you're on the 'official' bus the ship won't leave without you, right? That's worth a bit of $$$ to me - if the timing is close.

The guarantee that the ship does not depart when you're on a cruise-line excursion is a valid point. But it seems to me that the luau runs at set times, so the excursion is taking into account the drive time there and back again. I think it's a pretty reasonable guess that Disney is chartering buses for this excursion.

Personally, I'd probably rent a car and use it all day on Maui, dropping it off after returning from the luau. There are other luau options on Maui, some closer to the port Disney is using. Oahu has some luau options too, which are available from ShoreTrips, a vendor I often recommend for clients. Again, I'd probably be tempted to rent a car and get to the luau on my own.

Here's a listing of Hawaiian luaus, which may help! The one at Paradise Cove on Oahu is really close to Aulani. The Old Lahaina Luau is well rated in this list.

We have a room. Our GTY has disappeared and we now have room 7126 for this cruise. Only 104 days to go!!!

Oh, and we got the excursions and Palos we wanted.

why can't I find any trip reports for this cruise? I really want to know what Disney tours people did--since I am going with first time cruiser sister, and Tracy is not going to be with me, I am not willing to venture out on our own. Any suggestions?
