Soooo...when I ran the Disneyland Half last September, I thought it was going to be my one and only half marathon. I only did it because (a) I fell seriously in love with Adrienne's bling from the previous half, and (b) because it was the year I turned 50, and I figured I had to do one crazy thing to commemorate the half-century mark (ouch). My bff did it with me, and I never would have finished on time without her.
Fast forward to this year, when my bff turned 40. She decided to run in this year's half to commemorate HER milestone year, and there was no way I wasn't going to be there for her when she was SO there for me. So I'm running the half again.
When Tinker Bell came up, I thought, "Nah. I'm done." My bff and her sister registered. I still didn't really want to do it. Then I took a good look at the medal in yesterday's park update. And registered. Once again, it's all about the bling. So I'm in.
To all who come to this happy place...quit stepping on the back of my shoes!

:sigh: at least you waited until you SAW the bling.
And now you know that since we're doing the Inaugural one, then if we do a "perfect 5" in a row, we'll get the special Bling RIBBON at the 5th anniversary event or something... right?

Oh, dear Lord. Somebody grab a big stick and strike me repeatedly on the head until I come to my senses.

No problem, ladies. While we're drinking margaritas after our Perfect 5th Tink, I'll let you off the hook.

Loving my sweet pea.
Well. I'm in. A little reluctantly... but in nonetheless.
/ I really appreciate how I'm faithful to my workout schedule while training. And although I keep telling myself I'll keep it up after the race is over, I haven't after the last two. I appreciate the accountability of wanting to get to the finish line and of earning my medal. DH won't be joining me for this one. But I did notice when I registered that they gave the option of a men's shirt, which he appreciated after getting a women's one at the Princess! So, um, go Tinkerbell. Yeah... still not a Tinkerbell fan. But the medal is pretty. That *might* have swayed me. Just a little.
I started with the DL half last year, walked most of it, but in the middle of the race ran for one minute out of every 7. At the Princess I was hoping to walk 3/run 2, but only made it up to walk 3.5/run 1.5, but improved my time by 28 minutes! For this DL half I'll be attempting to run 4/walk 1. So who knows... maybe I'll try to purely run the Tinkerbell. As much as I still dread working out, it's very nice to see improvement, and I just may be crazy enough to attempt it.

Okay, since I can't run now, do they check IDs when you pick up your race stuff? I know "no transfers" but is that really how it goes?
Why do people go on The Amazing Race without bothering to learn how to drive a stick shift?

They check the ID of the person picking up your stuff. Last year, I picked up Doc's for him. I can't remember what happened, but he signed the release form which some gave me permission to pick up his stuff.

THpoohbear- I'm glad you're in! That's awesome. I was doing my "long" run last Friday and as I was nearing my 5th mile I started to tear up (as I am right now just typing this). I have never in my life been able to do a run/walk like that, EVER. I'm so thankful for this new hip and to be out of pain. I'm glad I've started my training early, as it will go slow, but I will finish! Yes I will!

LOVE it!! I chickened out on running "BEFORE" the big 4-0. I originally wanted to run the half on Labor Day weekend because that would be BEFORE 4-0! Oh well....2 months after 4-0 is still good with me!

Do we think that they will add the chEAR packages to the Tinkerbell Half? I don't see them listed now. I know it's early but I'm starting to think about hotels and stuff!

They probably will. I have to say - I'm not really big on those packages. We've never purchased them. I know someone who did once at WDW and from talking to her, I got the impression that they felt it wasn't worth the price. What part interests you?

Those things are a cash-making machine for Disney. You can pretty much count on them having them.

Boyfriend isn't going to be big on just trying to figure out where to go and wait to see me run (although I saw the MP DL Marathon break down and that's pretty darn handy!) so I figured this would give him a a specific place to be at specific time which he is much better at. Plus if it's like the usual package it will provide him with a 1 day ticket, I don't know yet if he will have an AP in January.

Tinker Bell will be a little different since the course is not the same. You could always scope out the course ahead of time and pick out a landmark. I have a spreadsheet I use to figure out when I will be at different mile markers/landmarks (because I'm an engineer). I can probably work one up for Tinker Bell. Right now it's specific to WDW.

You're doing FINE on pace. Pace improves with your non-long runs. But at the pace you're going, you'll finish far ahead of the sweepers (unless you want to stop for tons of character photos).

I was able to push myself (for speed) for just shy of five miles today. Normally I try to push myself on my 30 minute runs, but this time I pushed myself twice that long. My hip was getting a little cranky when I hit 4.75 miles so I stopped pushing myself, stopped my Runkeeper and walked the rest of the way (.75 miles) back to my house. It was a great cool down and after a cold shower I was feeling awesome.

Speaking of Runkeeper, does any one know how accurate that thing is?
I know some of you have seen my vent on FB about the discrepancies on it between DH and I. I had to walk around the soccer field on Saturday so my RK would show I actually finished my 7 miles but DH's said he had already finished his 7 miles. We were walking the same path!! I know its minor but when your fighting with all your might to put one foot in front of the other and your work out partner gets to stop before you do, it makes one a little ANGRY!
The only difference is I use the coaching feature so I know when to walk and run and he follows me. I wonder if the coaching messes up the GPS. IDK.
