Pixar Executives Not Quite Ready to Forsake Others for Disney Alone - New York Times, 5/11/03
QuikQuote: For the last five months, Mr. Jobs, a skillful manipulator of his image and that of his company, has artfully dodged speculation regarding a new joint venture. And he was no less evasive in a conference call on earnings last week when an analyst suggested that Mr. Jobs scrap negotiations with Disney and try to acquire its animation division instead. Mr. Jobs suggested something more radical: buying Disney outright. Thinking better of the idea though (especially after the analyst gasped) he added, "I'll just leave that alone."
If "Finding Nemo" is anything less than a blockbuster Pixar has not had a flop yet it will bode poorly for Mr. Jobs's quest for a new deal. Several film executives who have seen the animation say it is well done, but one of these people said the story might prove less appealing to young boys than did those of Pixar's previous films.
