Someone have a bucket, cause I'm gonna hurl. Those pictures in today's photo tour of DisneySeas' hotel are astounding. How in the heck did we get so screwed over with DCA? I know the hotel at DCA is nice, but it's nothing compared to DisneySeas' rendition. And I'm beginning to feel queasy thinking of how the rest of the park will look, considering the hotel.

Wow, if I had any pixie dust left in my eyes, seeing these photos certainly wiped it clean. There must be a sign somewhere in Eisner's office that reads:

"The American public has no clue what quality is. Let's give them parlor tricks with a mouse stamped on them and they'll never know the difference."

Well, Mr. Eisner, my response would be peppered with adjectives not appropriate for little one's ears, so I'll refrain.

I didn't think it was possible, but our family will seriously reconsider *not* renewing our APs next year.

It is very sad to see those pictures. It does throw mud in the face of all who visit DCA and like it. I know comparisons are not fair but shouldn't the park that started all of this be honored with another incredible park next to it. I am glad that I was able to visit DCA and Disneyland because I will not be returning anytime soon. Again, it is an embarrassment that DCA was ever built. I refuse to pay 43 dollars to visit a carnival!!!! SAD And I can only imagine the pictures inside the park...(I think I am going to be sick again!)

Don't these shortsighted, cynical ************ realize that if they had built something as awe-inspiring and escapist as Tokyo DisneySea in Anaheim that nearly the entire population of California (and much of the Southwest) would have turned out to see the spectacle (despite any recession)?... And would have gone back again and again!

This would have been "the thing" to do and see and would have reinvigorated not only Anaheim, but the Disney Company's tarnished image! Perception all starts here in media land - - it's about time they fired their current finance and marketing robot warriors and remembered that their business is SHOW business and SPECTACLE and ESCAPISM and QUALITY - - not just BRAND MARKETING!!!!

Look at Tokyo - - the real thing is still possible. Even two-thirds of that park would have been a big splash here... but instead we get the crappiest, ugliest thing Disney has ever designed in the medium (save DL's New Tomorrowland). I don't want to hear that they can't afford it, because those projections are skewed to the agandas and limitations of perception of their authors.

Something like DisneySea could not help but make money here. If they had built this, I would LIVE at the resort! As it is I go less this summer than I have in the last 20 years.

Fire PP and BB and put those who designed DisneySea in charge of DL Resort!

Until the company stops being so openly contemptuous of its patrons here, I can assure that my (once ample) spending at Disneyland Resort will be minimized. There will be no major purchases of consumer products, I will dine at The Block prior to visiting the original park and I will never spend a penny in DCA (nor plan any trips to Florida, except to revisit IOA) - - Not until we start getting some quality additions and restorations to DL and not until we get a decent second (or third) gate on par (in any respect) with DisneySea. Not until the people who get paid so much cash start doing their job, BUILDING SOMETHING COOL instead of strip-mining and TEARING DOWN.

We the consumers are being shafted (without lube) precisely because of our loyalty to the brand (and our nostalgia for what Walt built)! On those sentiments, some lazy egotists rape a company and an image to plunder unthinkable booty to their personal wherehouses of cash and give NOTHING back! Eisner is the HIGHEST PAID executive in Southern California and he has nothing but contempt for those that put him there. My contribution to this corrupt system ends now!!!

As for the pictures, they are great. But I wouldn't go too far based just on pictures of the hotel (though I have no reason t believe tha the rest of the series won't continue to establish a high bar).

The Grand Californian is a beautiful hotel. It is wonderfully and fully themed. Its theme, however, is of a more subtle nature.

Merlin Jones the 'rage' has been in me for awhile now and like you..this is just the icing on the cake and a final straw. I hope with all my heart these posts are being read by the pinheads at Disney who lost it for all of us.

I agree with Alex on the Grand Californian., But from other photos that I have seen of TDS it is obvious why Eisner has asked The Oriental Land Co. not to invite the American media outlets to cover the opening. They think they can keep how they are exploiting the american consumer a secret. So instead of just being the opening of a new Disney park, (No big deal, news wise) in to a bonafide news story,( Disney knowingly rips off hard working Americans). I trust as soon as CNN finds out they are not wanted, they will be there in force, and as soon as they find out why Disney doesn't want them there, we got news. The move to not invite the media may be the undoing of the Anti-Walt.

I can't wait until MousePlanet runs a detailed photo comparison of Tokyo's "Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh" ride with what will surely be a disappointing, minimalist, lowest-common-denominator, brand marketing affair at Disneyland.

One would think that with all the billions (yes, that's with a "B") that Pooh has brought to the Company that the attraction would reflect it. Surely they owe it to the franchise and to Disneyland as well as the consumer.

Malecifent you're right. The pictures of the Hotel MiraCosta are great! If you've seen the photo tour at Laughing Place (great btw) you know the continued tour of DisneySeas here on MousePlanet will just upset you more.

I know Disney doesn't like comparisons of one of their parks against another but these two, DisneySeas and DCA, are opening within six months of each other. Park concept, design, budget and execution can all be compared. DCA could not compete with DisneySeas if they were built side by side. The true comparison will be attendance and we'll find out soon enough who has made the better investment. My money is on OLC.

I'm not upset we got DCA because I'm growing into enjoying it. I'm disappointed DCA was never allowed to become a full fledged Disney park by the money guys. DisneySeas is just rubbing salt in the wound...

Love JoeInTokyo's site. And we thought that the Imagineers were all dried up. They can still create that "Disney Magic", Americans just are not good enough for it. It just shows that the current management thinks that us stupid Americans are unable to tell the differance between "Disney Magic" and "it's good enough for Six Flags." Eisner also thinks that if CNN does'nt cover it we will never know how great TDS is. Eisner's obvious contempt for the American consumer has reached a peak. DCA will go down as Eisner's Folly. As much as I love DCA, Disney Seas looks much better and it also makes me sad to think we could have had a park like that. I have to say this park looks comparable to Disneyland. I am seriously thinking of not renewing my pass next year in order to save for a trip to Tokyo, but not because I am not satisfied with Disneyland Resort.

Hey everyone! Guess what, DCA and DisneySea are more similar than you may think:

They both have Jumpin' Jellyfish. Isn't that great! Except, Tokyo got Jumpiny Jellyfish. I guess they've just got more money in the signage department over there, too.

I like DCA and love Disneyland, but I am so envious of the people who live over there in Japan. I want DisneySea!

The photos and descriptions that I've seen for Tokyo DisneySea certainly make the park seem wonderful, but I do think that some of the posts in this thread and the discussions in other places on the Internet are pretty over-the-top.

From the photos that I've seen so far, the park looks fairly comparable to Animal Kingdom with regards to the level of theming and the overall lushness of the design. Yes, it does look to be more elaborately themed than DCA, although it is also a very different kind of park. The types of theming used in an sea-themed park will obviously different than what is used in a park about California.

One important point to keep in mind is that DCA is less than half the size of Tokyo Disney Sea and the designers also had to deal with the difficulties related to its very urban surroundings. Considering the circumstances involved, I really think DCA is an exceptionally attractive and well-themed park.

I'll also add that while the photos of Mira Costa posted today are quite impressive looking, I wasn't left with an impression that the hotel was significantly more themed (at least on the interior) than the Grand Californian. As Alex said, the rustic design approach taken for the Grand Californian is more subtle than the Roman approach used for the Mira Costa. What approach is preferred is largely a matter of taste.

Personally, I like the look of the Grand Californian better than what I've seen of the Mira Costa, which is a bit overdone for my taste. For similar reasons, I also would pick the Wilderness Lodge over the Grand Floridan when planning trips to WDW.

'Tis indeed sad to see that the Disney Seas project still strives to live up the ideals set down by Walt Disney, yet our California park is done so cheaply, so poorly, and so lacking in vision. The builders, designers, & businessmen who build Disney Seas seem to understand full well that if you build something of quality, while expensive, it will still see a profit eventually.

Our problem is Eisner, plain and simple. He has NO, and I repeat that, NO creative mind at all. He couldn't envision a coke can. To him, DCA looks fine. Disneyland is in great shape. He mind reels at the possibility that DCA is failing, yet Seas is not. He can never, will never, understand a Disney theme park is more than a "resort destination". It is something special, something that needs special attention. You can't just plop down a tilt-a-whirl next to a hot-dog stand, flip up a Disney logo and have people accept it as Disney.

If he wants to recreate a carnival, let him, just don't put the Disney name on it and expect it to do well. I don't begrudge Eisner his desire to make a mark in the world. He just shouldn't be running Disney. He shouldn't be running a service based, creative company. His talents, and drive for the bottom line makes him much better suited for companies that produce products - Compaq, Intell, GM, Papermate, Nestle, or any one of million other companies.

DisneySea was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering which is a good thing. At least we know that WDI is still capable of building quality parks and attractions. Disney just needs to watch its budget with other things (i.e. not making movies they know will stink) and use that money to improve their parks.

(Disney also still is the top of the theme park industry in my opinion. Even their worst parks [DCA & DAK] are great parks in comparison to Knott's, 6 Flags, etc. Everyone is comparing them to the cream of the crop. (Disneyland park, DisneySea, Tokyo Disneyland)

Just read that a new ride will open up at DCA called ....De Nial ....It will take you around DCA showing you what the park would of looked like if it was invested properly. The boats will be called Pressler's Pocket and Michael's Money Account.

Seems to me Disney will soon be learning which was the better way to build a new theme park. In the end it's still the bottom line of which yields a bigger return on investment.

If DisneySea is a success unlike DCA (which most of you seem to be saying) then that will be reflected in the balance sheets and should influence future park decisions to do things more like DisneySea. In that case we'll win in the end as new replaces old at DCA.

Of course if DisneySea isn't significantly more successful, well we'll see allot more DCA like attractions in the future.

I disagree. Eisner can't see beyond today. As long as he is running the show, we should expect to see more quick, cheap or both quick and cheap concepts designed to pull people into the parks.

Disney Seas, as was built in Japan, is an impossible dream here. If nothing else, Pressler would never green light something that expensive, regardless of what Eisner thought. In their minds, people will come, spend money on their hotel, buy gifts, eat. They made it abundantly clear that they could care less about show quality - what matters is retail dollars.

What is so very sad about this is that Pressler has such a great retail mind. Downtown Disney is a true success story, but without his skills, the Disney store's - his brain child - are dying. Could he not serve the company better by being moved out of "show" design, and back to merchandizing? Perhaps therein lies the problem. Eisner sees the theme parks as just another retail area -so Paul is the perfect man for the job.

I really hope the the success of Disney Seas really puts the Anit-walt team out on the streets. When profits of that park skyrocket through the roof, and DCA sinks, the board of directors will come to the same realization we all have. It is time for Eisner and his team to step down and allow more creative people to take the Disney helm.
