Disappointments [Disneyland response to stranded Carnival passengers]

I have always said that my veins are filled with a combination of ocean water and Disney Magic, rather than blood. I cruised on the Carnival Splendor Nov 7 with 10 other family members. I really needed a pick me up after everything so we went to Disneyland. My 9 year old had a birthday the day of the fire and I wanted to do something to make it up to him. I called Disney after someone told me I should. They wouldn't do anything special for us other then give us a fastpass for 2 rides. It took about 40 minutes waiting in line to get that, and we could of gotten our own fastpss by simply going into the park and gathering them in the 40 minutes we waited. Then we got into the park to find out it was one of the busiest days of the year. After waiting in line all week on the ship to eat etc, just what we needed was more long lines. I had a hard time feeling the magic at all. I spent about $800.00 for 6 people to see Disney for one day. Right now I wish I had saved the money and don't know when the magic will return for me. I am taking a granddaughter to Disney World in March and hope the magic returns by then.

I'm sorry for all you had to go through on the ship, but you just happened to have gone on one of the busiest days of the year, and everyone else in the park also deserved to go. It was Veteran's Day weekend AND the opening of the Holiday season. I'm not sure why people think holidays won't have crowds.

I am not sure why you expected Disney to do something special for you when the Carnival ship had issues. I do hope the magic returns for you.

I don't really understand why you would expect Disney to extend any sort of service to you because of your experience on the cruise ship, I fail to see the correlation. You went in with huge expectation and let that ruin your trip to DL. I hope you regain the magic also, but that's on you, not Disney.

Who told you to call Disney, and what did they tell you Disney was going to do for you? I'm sorry you were mislead that Disney was going to make up for a huge problem on the part of another company. What were you expecting Disney to do? I think I'd be more upset with the person who led me to believe that I could get something free out of Disney because of what happened with Carnival.

Did you get a birthday button for your son? He could still have celebrated his birthday at Disneyland even though his birthday had technically passed. In my experience, CMs and even other guests are very generous with wishing a happy birthday to anyone wearing a birthday button, and it's really nice to get all those acknowledgements.
Please don't ask me how I feel, I feel fine.
Oh I cry a bit, I don't sleep too good, but I'm fine

I am sure you can use the money Carnival is refunding to all the guests aboard to pay for a first class DW vacation, and you also get to enjoy another trip on carnival for free, so I imagine that will be fun too.

I am sorry all this happened to you, but other than New Years and July 4th, you showed up on the bussiest day of the year. That is not Disney's fault. The diesel engine that caught fire on the splendor is not Disney's fault...so why are you mad at them again?

You need to take a few days to relax and hug your family, as you seem to be venting anger in all directions that might not really deserve it.

I feel for those who had their long awaited and carefully planned vacations ruined during that Carnival Cruise, I really am. But I just don't see why DLR is obligated to somewhat atone for Carnival by rolling out the red carpet for those involved. It was not a Disney Cruise Line, it was Carnival. I had a bad experience with a Doubletree hotel recently, but I don't think I can call the Ritz Carlton and ask for them to comp me in some way to wipe the bad taste Doubletree left in my mouth.

I feel for you guys over the Carnival incident, but you guys were obviously still reeling from that bad experience and then followed it up with a visit to DLR during one of the busiest/hectic days of the year. Hopefully WDW helps you guys find the magic all over again.

I can't believe they wouldn't do something special for you after the miserable time you had at the hands of a totally non-Disney related company. They should have personally escorted you to the front of every queue, made you parade marshall, given you free lunch at Blue Bayou (waterfront seating of course) and free dinner at Club 33.

For those who don't see the connection the OP mentioned that s/he is into Disney and the ocean. Disney should have understood this and gone out of their way to make his/her DL visit the experience of a lifetime.

Sorry, but when a post tees it up for me, I've got to swing!

I can see that you all misunderstood what I meant. I was not expecting any wonderful thing from Disney. I hadn't done any planning as I wasn't going to Disney this trip. I had no idea it was the first day of the lights until I got there. It was simply dissapointing luck to have it on top of the other mess. No it wasn't Disn'eys fault, just my bad luck. Had I known before buying tickets what a mess it was in the park I would have known we needed to not go there. It isn't their fault at all, but the magic is still gone from me for a while. I had always wanted to see Disney at Christmas and did enjoy that. I'm taking my Granddaughter in March on a pre planned trip with her dance team. I'm hoping that is a better trip. I'm sorry you all thought I was trying to get something I didn't deserve.

An aside (sort of) -- I just want to say I'm sorry for what your family had to go through on the ship. In the interviews I've heard and read, everybody has mentioned the stink of rotting food that was everywhere, and I can't begin to imagine what that was like. The pictures they've shown of what the passengers were fed makes me think I'd have lost weight -- it looked SO unappetizing. And no flushing -- yikes! I'm surprised there wasn't/isn't some sort of mass illness. Of course, all I have to go by is what I read and saw in the media.

It still amazes me that they couldn't get you guys off the ship.

To all who come to this happy place...quit stepping on the back of my shoes!

I am going to assume this was including meals and souvenirs, as your park tickets shouldn't have been more than $450 for 1 park tickets or $590 for park hoppers.
I'm sorry you didn't have time to plan better. I do hear it all the time when we go at Christmas. People can't believe others had the same idea as them to come down for Christmas, "I'd thought people would spend time with their families..."

I would not have expected anything or even asked as that is not my way. My neighbor knew we were on the Splendor and called Disney. She was told they wanted to talk to me and gave me number to call. When I got through it must have been a different employee. That is all fine. When news of the disaster struck, I talked to many cruise members about going to Disney. Many families from the ship decided to go to Disney on my advice. I hope they had a good time. I was also on the radio live from Disneyland and gave Disney a lot of good publicity. Disney is the place to make dreams come true. I didn't need help from them to make that happen. I have been to Disney hundreds of times. I have never won any perks nor has anyone in my group. That is fine. I just was in a bad place and have lost the magic that I have had all my life and hope it will some day return.

Did you follow the Prime Directive (especially on busy days) to be at the turnstiles at least a half hour before opening? Might have made all the difference in the world.

Hard to misunderstand your statement. Still wondering what "special" thing you wanted/expected Disney to do for you.

I still can't understand why it was Disney's fault that you lost your "magic"...

Perhaps this thread belongs on a Carnival forum.

I am sure that someone knows this....

I know (or assume) that Disney has a "no refunds" policy.

However, if the OP had had a problem with the crowd levels at DLR and complained directly to them, would Disney have refunded their tickets or given tickets for another day?

    Just curious.

That Friday was miserable, crowd-wise. I'm with you there. But, it wasn't Disney's fault. I so wanted to leave as soon as I walked in, but I chalked it up to spend the day with out-of-town houseguests.

Now, as for Disney doing something to make your week better, they would have been smart to offer you a little discount to cruise on the Wonder once it's based here in LA. It totally would have switched you from crappy Carnival to the best line on the ocean, and definitely restored the magic you're looking for. That said, I highly suggest DCL for a future trip - they'll treat you well, and I can guarantee they wouldn't be feeding you Spam in case of emergency.

I hadn't heard that DCL was coming permanately to LA. I have always wanted to do a Disney Cruise and someday I may.

January 2011! The Wonder arrives on the 21st. Prices start at like $649 for 7 nights.

She'll be doing Mexican Riviera sailings and spending summers in Alaska.

Generally, depending on how long you have been in the park, they will refund the ticket and escort you out of the park.

You say you didn't expect disney to do anything? Then why did you ask?

This goes back to the whole entitlement thing, it's really getting out of hand.
