    Florida Fall has finally arrived

The past two days have been beautiful, mid 80's, little humidity. As I write this I'm sitting in the backyard watching the kids swim in the pool. I'm wearing jeans and a tee. I could be in shorts but it's been forever since I could be in jeans outdoors so I broke them out. These are the kind of days we put up with the summer for. Sounds like this weather is here to stay for a while. Hope this help for those of you arriving soon and trying to figure out what to pack.

Ah, brings back wonderful memories! Sixteen years ago today we arrived at POR for the start of our amazing 2-week honeymoon (and my first trip to WDW!). This morning I am completely disheveled, sitting in a chaotic house, after pulling an all-nighter with 2 feverish and puking children. How times have changed!

My parents will be down in December and they're looking forward to jeans/khaki weather while they're there. I told them they'll have to pack a little of everything since it's December. Fall in Florida, however, sounds absolutely lovely. Little humidity is the key!

So in mid-late March, when we come, do we NEED to bring jeans at all? We only JUST started wearing jeans and (heaven forbid) socks here - I was in shorts late last week (though it can be pretty nippy at night so wasn't outside). Have to say we tend to be warmer than some - many people in our area have been wearing jeans & leggings for a month already. I am thinking I'm bringing one pair of jeans, a few capris and mostly shorts; light T's and one hoody and one windbreaker/rain coat. We're not dining anywhere that requires nice dress so that's not even an issue. Comments?

Man this leaves me confused.com See, my 'norm' is just v.different....

Those are the days I call high summer!

I have STUDIED the Orlando historic weather charts and still have no idea what to pack for December 17th - 31st.

    We are visiting for 2 weeks so;

    I'm thinking.........

    One weeks worth of clothes that = jeans, T-shirts and sweatshirts, with trainers and soxs, (but no coats, hats, scarves and gloves), and;

One weeks worth of clothes that = shorts and T-shirts and maybe swimmers

I guess which ever way I'm wrong I get the chance to use the hotel laundry at POR?!

Please advise me when we get nearer our departure date.

(PS - by default we will have proper English winter coats when we arrive because, let's face it, it will be deep winter when we leave Manchester and we will be cold then at least)!!

PPS - (It's 13C/56F ) degrees here today and I wore a coat for the first time this year.

DS is still hanging onto shorts and a T, but the other children in the strret gave up and climbed into their jeans about a month ago. He's pretty weather resiliant!

scoobydooby, I think you've got the right approach.

Don't forget soap for the laundry. You can buy it from machines there, but I don't think it was a very good value.

I got these Purex all-in-one sheets that I used and I thought they were perfect. Someone in the laundry room said that Consumer Reports said they weren't much better than just water, and I wouldn't use them full-time at home - but they were VERY convinient to pack. I just put 3 of them in a zip lock and no worries about spillage in the suitcase.

mousecanuck - YOU will probably be ok that way. If it was me or MomofThree, we'd probably still be in jeans at that time of year.

Sorry to confuse you guys. Yes, we are all still able to wear shorts right now. I was just thrilled to be able to wear my jeans today after many months of them being put away because it was too darn hot to even think about wearing them. My kids spent the better part of today in the pool. We are taking the boat out tomorrow afternoon and I plan on jumping in the Gulf at some point. It really is amazing weather right now. Were loving it after so many months of hot sticky humidity.

Scobby I think you have the right plan for Dec packing. I'll let you know when you get closer. However, do keep in mind that in the winter here it can be beautiful one day, then a cold snap hits us were cold for two/three days, then back to shorts again all in one week. Think layers when you pack. Last winter was out right weird weather. It was cold for months. That is not the way it should be here.Lets hope for no repetes of that this year.

For a mid March trip I would plan on shorts and tees but would pack a pair of jeans and maybe wear jeans on the plane trip. That way you have two pairs just in case but odds are you won't use them. I would also bring a sweatshirt for nights.

mom of three you have really made me smile, we are coming out in 3 weeks time but that's not made me smile its the fact that you actually wanted to put jeans on in the mid 80's! if its 70' them my shorts are going on ( i am english and 70' is a summers day for us) probably wont even bring jeans possible couple of pairs of cotton trousers 'just in case'.we have been lucky the last 2 years running with the weather at this time so fingers crossed again. oh and scooby i never take a winter coat because its warm in car and roasting at the airport so i always end up carrying it.

Amen to the UK people! Dec in WDW is probably like the summer we just had, honestly. I was hoping to be able to lie in the garden over the summer at some point, it never happened, I felt cheated...glad I had a WDW trip planned so that I could get my dose of sunshine!

I would be dying in long pants when it is in the mid 80's.
I don't know and I don't care if It's a Small World. It's a nice day when you wake up in Disneyland.

I thought of this thread the other day. My DS10 (CodeBoy) asked me what puffy coat weather was for people in Florida. I said in the 50s and for some people the 60s. He thought that was hillarious because that's the temp around here and he's still wearing shorts and shirtsleeves.

Yeah, what is a puffy coat anyway? Only Kidding! Seriously, I haven't owned a real coat in years. There were days last winter, when we were in the teens, that I wished I did though. That was just a weird weather year which I pray we don't relive.

You guys can laugh all you want to at me in my jeans and long pants in the low 80's. Considering this abuse is coming from a group of "puffy coat" people who choose to live a life where they have to get up early to shovel the driveway just to go to work. I'm not all that upset. I am a bit perplexed as to why so many of you who feel the need to flock here in the winter and show off those pale white legs in shorts. Perhaps packing jeans isn't such a bad idea after all? However, if you do pack your jeans pack your flip flops as well because that's how we roll here. Sure it's a strange fashion statement but have you looked at a body in a "puffy coat?"

    Pasty legs Roosty

    That made me laugh!

I am now in big, bulky, fluffy fur-lined coat. (Think 1960's afghan ...) Thinking I need to find the scarf and gloves I put away somewhere safe at the end of last winter ......

    Brrrr.

I may be stowing away in someone's suitcase in a couple of weeks time .......

We moved here from warm California two years ago. And the snow is really not a problem. Perhaps because we have a snowblower and a husband who considers it his duty to shovel before I leave for work. Which is a riot because I have a four wheel drive and 99% of the time I could easily drive out anyway!

But, yes, it will be nice to get to the warm Florida weather! And my legs were pale in California, too. I do wear shorts some at the parks, but mostly, I wear pants anyway. Because nobody needs to see my pale white legs in shorts!

And you'll be happy to know I packed my flip flops last night. Because that's how you roll!

Not laughing, it's just weird what each of us considers to be 'cold' weather!

For those of you who are familiar with CA and FL weather....I planned to pack for New Year's in Orlando the same as I would for December/January at Disneyland. Am I on the right track?

PS: It finally feels like fall in No. Cal. Temps in high 60's today with a breeze. Lovely. Bring on the autumn leaves!!!

I believe So Cal is either a little wetter, cooler, or both than Florida in late Dec/early Jan. But I'd check www.wunderground.com in the vacation planning section to compare. But last Jan was UNUSUALLY cold for Florida.

I have used zip on hiking pants in the parks before during this time of year. Mid day can be warm but nights sometimes gets chilly. This year I got myself a few pair of military summer BDU pants (olive, khaki, and black) figure they will be cool and loose during the day but keep me warm enough at night.

Born and raised in Tampa FL but I do enjoy the change of sessions here in Michigan although the winters and get a bit old by February.
