MouseAdventure Holiday: Trick or Treat - Final Team e-mail

We've had some reports that teams are not getting the e-mails from MouseAdventure. These reports generally involve Earthlink and Hotmail accounts, though we've had a few GMail folks with the same issue.

If you have missed the last e-mail, it's posted below for your convenience. It will not have your personal team number in it, because that was auto-generated for each team. If you don't know your team number, we can provide it to you Sunday morning at check in - there will be a special line for teams who need their number, or need to make changes to their team.

We STRONGLY urge you to go into your e-mail client and add "mouseadventure@mouseplanet.com" to your approved senders list. If you consistently do not receive our e-mails, please talk to your e-mail provider. If this helps, you can tell them that e-mail #3 was sent between 9:28 am and 10:39 am on October 13 2010.

Edited to add: Having looked at the stats from the campaign, it appears that Earthlink is bouncing ALL e-mail sent to their domain with an "email address does not exist" message. If you have an Earthlink account, you should 1) contact Earthlink to figure out just what the heck they're doing and 2) register a different e-mail address to use for MouseAdventure-related communication.

Holiday 2010 • Number 3 Welcome, Foolish Mortals!

MouseAdventure Holiday: Trick or Treat is just around the corner, and we're glad you've decided to join us for our special holiday-themed event around the Disneyland Resort. This is the final e-mail confirmation before the big day, and it contains information you'll need to be fully prepared.

    Registration Confirmation

    YOU ARE TEAM # ________________

Please be sure to make a note of your team number
, and have that information ready when you arrive for Sign-in on Sunday morning. This will make the sign in process MUCH faster for everyone. Your entire team must be with you before you can sign-sin, so be sure to plan a meeting place outside of the hotel if your team is arriving in separate vehicles.

Remember, all registrations are final—there are no refunds, and teams may not add players at this time. If you need to drop or replace a player from your team, you may do so when you Sign-in Sunday morning.

Also, ALL TEAMS must have a #2 pencil to complete the trivia portion of the event.

    October 17th Final Event Schedule

    MouseAdventure Holiday: Trick or Treat
    10:00 amSign-in begins at the Paradise Pier Hotel;
    team photos
10:45 amEvent starts 6:00 pmGame concludes
Reminder: Sign-in will be at the Paradise Pier Hotel ballroom, which is located on the ground floor of the Paradise Pier Hotel building. This is also where the event will begin. Please be on time. If the sign-in process is delayed, it will delay the start of the game for your division, delay sign-in for the next division and result in less game time for everyone. This would be a Bad Thing.

There's still time to CHOC Walk!

It's become a MouseAdventure tradition to host some form of charity drive along with our event, and our generous players have donated truly inspiring quantities of toys and food to local charities over the years.

This Fall MouseAdventure will be held the same day as the 2010 CHOC Walk, benefiting Children's Hospital Orange County. Instead of hosting our own charity drive this time, we're encouraging players to join Team MousePlanet and participate in the CHOC Walk before MouseAdventure starts.

CHOC Walk is a leisurely 5k walk through Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure prior to either park opening for the day. The walk begins at 7am inside Disneyland, and continues through DCA before ending in Downtown Disney. You have a full two hours to complete the walk, but most people can finish a 5K (about 3 miles) much faster than this. Consider it a warm up for MouseAdventure!

Rest assured, there is PLENTY of time to complete the CHOC Walk and make it to the Paradise Pier Hotel for MouseAdventure sign-in. Several of the MouseAdventure crew members are also walking with CHOC Walk, and you know the game won't start without them!
CHOC Walk registration is free, but you will need to raise at least $50 by October 17th in order to participate in the walk. CHOC has a very nifty Web site that makes it easy for your friends and family to make donations directly to your walk account online, or you can also collect cash and check donations.

All walk participants receive a CHOC Walk t-shirt and have the opportunity to earn all sorts of Walker Incentives, including tickets to Disneyland, when you meet certain fundraising goals. You could even win a 7-night Mexican Riviera cruise on board the Disney Wonder!

When you register to walk with Team MousePlanet and raise at least $50, you'll also receive a free MousePlanet baseball cap. Best of all, we handle the walker check in for our team members who raise the $50 registration fee by October 14th so you don't have to make a special trip to Irvine the week before the race to collect your wristband. All you need to do is show up at the designated meeting place & time the morning of the walk, collect your shirt, wristband and MousePlanet cap, and join the festivities inside Disneyland.

Another benefit of participating in the CHOC Walk: discounted Disneyland admission. CHOC Walkers with event wristbands can purchase up to 5 1-day 1-park OR 1-day Park Hopper tickets at a special discount. These tickets are sold only at the ticket booths on the day of the Walk, and only with a valid walk wristband.

If you can't join us for the walk (and we know, it makes an already long day even longer), you can still help us raise funds for CHOC. We invite you to visit Team MousePlanet's CHOC Walk page and sponsor one of our registered walkers. You can help someone meet their $50 minimum, or help a walker meet their fundraising goal. Every step and every dollar counts.

    Calling all World Explorers

There will be a brief World Explorers Troop Meeting on Sunday, October 17, prior to the official start of MouseAdventure Holiday: Trick or Treat. If you particpated in last weekend's event at Animal Kingdom and are also participating in the Holiday event, please bring your World Explorers sash to this Troop Meeting.

    Additional Information

    Parking:

Teams may park at the Paradise Pier Hotel parking lot for a reduced all-day rate of $10. Teams may also park in the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure and walk to the hotel. Be sure to leave enough time for this warm up stroll!

Please note that October 17th is also the annual CHOC Walk at the Disneyland Resort, and that traffic in and around the Resort area may be unusually heavy as 15,000 walkers attempt the leave the Resort right around the time you're trying to arrive. We strongly suggest that teams leave ample time to park, especially if you're parking at Mickey and Friends.

    Tickets:

Each member of your team will need admission to Disneyland park for this event. October 17 is a blockout date for the Southern California Select Annual Pass, but all other passes are valid.

If you need to purchase admission for the event, you will need only a one-day, one-park ticket: it is not ncessesary to purchase a park-hopper ticket. Discounted one-day, one-park tickets are available for our players, but you must act QUICKLY as these discounts expire Wednesday night! We know this is short notice, but we hope those teams who need admission can still take advantage of this offer:

These special ticket prices are not available once you arrive at the Resort.
Our ticket store closes at 9 pm PST on 10/13/10 so don't delay.

    Hotels:

MousePlanet has negotiated a discount with MousePlanet Sponsor Howard Johnson Hotel in the Anaheim Resort, just across Harbor Boulevard from Disneyland, for MouseAdventure teams wishing to spend a little more time at the resort.
You must make your reservations by calling the in-house reservation line (714-776-6120, ext. 6401), and mention "MouseAdventure" when you book.

Note: The central Howard Johnson reservation line can not make reservations with this discount. If the in-house reservation center is busy or closed, your call may be routed to the central reservation line and you will need to try again later.

    Wheelchair rentals:

We can no longer offer wheelchair rentals to MouseAdventure participants. If a member of your team will require the use of a wheelchair or ECV during the event, you have a few options:

    • Players staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel can rent standard (push) wheelchairs directly from the hotel. Please check with the hotel directly for information about cost and availability. Unfortunately, the hotels do not have scooters (ECVs) available to rent.
    • Players may rent a wheelchair or scooter from Disneyland or DCA once they enter the park. These rentals can only be used in the theme parks, and not be taken back to the hotel after the event.
    • Players may also rent a wheelchair or ECV from an outside company. Some MousePlanet readers recommend Deckert's Medical Supply (714) 542-5607 or OC Medical (714) 956-4690.

    Helpful Reminders

If you are new to MouseAdventure, the following information is going to be very helpful. And be sure to review the “Preparing for MouseAdventure” section of the MouseAdventure page—there are lots of good hints there.
If you've been here before, go ahead and peruse the suggestions below anywaythere's important information in there, plus you never know what you've forgotten since the last gameor what has changed since the last event.

    What to wear:

As always, we suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sun block and hats/visors. Watch the weather forecast, and pack layers if appropriate.

    What NOT to wear:

Do keep in mind that Disney does not allow adults to wear “costumes” in the park, and they are especially strict about enforcing this rule during HalloweenTime. It is difficult to know where a line might be drawn. Keep this in mind when designing team uniforms, as well the environment we'll all be in, and stay age-appropriate. We reserve the right to refuse admission to teams or players with inappropriate or offensive outfits, costumes, t-shirts or accessories.

    What to bring:

Our best teams all agree, clipboards are your friends. Some even bring one for each member of their team. Be sure to bring pens and/or pencils, and maybe some scrap paper. It's always a good idea to bring pens of differing colors, as well as highlighters and pencils with erasers.

ALL TEAMS must have a #2 pencil to complete the trivia portion of the event.

We also suggest that you bring water and small snacks, so you don't need to stop during the event. You will probably work up an appetite during the event, and our most competitive teams usually do not have time to stop for a meal or waste valuable time stopping for a corn dog.

What to leave in your car or locker:

Electronic devices, calculators, GPS units, reference materials, trivia books, and other such aids. You won't be allowed to use them, and they get heavy if you have to haul them around all day! Players may carry cell phones with them so they can be reached in the event of an emergency, but teams will receive penalties, up to disqualification, if players are caught using cell phones or text messaging during the event.

    Other considerations:

Teams may not work together, and related teams should not be working on the same quest at the same time. If you have registered multiple teams of friends / family, please understand that your teams will be required to split up during the event. Consider holding your own mini-competition to see which team gets the best score!

If you are participating with small children, be prepared to play just for fun, and leave the stress of competition behind. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game, even if they “aren't helping.”

    Weather report:

Some MouseAdventure players believe that the day of any particular MouseAdventure will be the hottest day of that given month. Others remember our Holiday 2009 event, now immortalized in MouseAdventure history as “Rain Gear Games.” Be sure to check the weather forecast so you know what to expect on game day. MouseAdventure will go on rain or shine, however rain may require us to change or cancel portions of the event. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do about this, so keep your fingers crossed that the mythical “Magic of MouseAdventure” works to keep skies clear and not too hot.

    Let's Keep in Touch!

Attention Twitterati! Keep up with the latest news and information about MouseAdventure on our MouseAdventure Twitter feed. If you can't get enough MouseAdventure, follow @MouseAdventure or you can find us on Facebook.

We also encourage you to visit our MousePad discussion boards to meet other players, ask questions of the MouseAdventure staff and pick up tips from returning teams.

I'm walking in the 2012 Disneyland Half Marathon in honor of two incredible Lymphoma survivors in my life: Gramma Jan and my friend Michele. If blood cancers have touched your life, please consider a donation to my walk fund to help fund better cures.

Thanks! Our team has gmail accounts and got all the world explorers emails, but not the trick or treat ones. I guess that's the trick! Or maybe the hidden quest.
