World of Color: The Guide

Just a quick update on my experience this week, I visited Tuesday 11/16, there was one WOC show at 8:15.

Overall, the viewing area didn't really seem full. In the regular sections below us, there was still room in some sections. I felt like over all, the whole experience was managed pretty well.

I was there Tuesday as well, just outside Ariels Grotto, right at the start of the bridge. One of the amusing things about standing there is you get a great view of the instanity once they open the viewing area. I have seen WOC five times now, and Tuesday was by far the most tame and least crowded. You picked a good night.

The second time I saw WOC, from the same spot, it looks like pure, unadulterated madness, huge throngs of people filling every inch of the viewing area.

BTW, tuesday was BY FAR the most empty I have ever seen both parks, second only to a cast party. I went on splash five times in a row, the last three we didnt even have to get off. Even Peter Pan had barely a line. It was AWESOME.

So we just got back from seeing the 2nd showing of WOC tonight. We did the Ariel's Grotto dining package as it was a special occasion for us, and we wanted to see WOC for the 1st time from a good viewing spot.

We had a 7:20pm dinner reservation - which we almost didn't make due to a problem with our AP's, but they gave us an override till we can fix the issue tomorrow, and let us head in/ SO we got to AG about 7:35 and they sat us almost immediately.

The service was fast - we almost felt as if we were being rushed through our antipasto (we got the cheese & veggies - which was excellent) , and the tri-tip steak was amazing!!! We took our time, each have a couple drinks - knowing our little one takes a long time to eat.

We relaxed over our 2nd drinks and dessert platter (a truly astounding amount of sugar is on that tray!!! - but oh so yummy!) and watched part of the first show from the side.

They then gave us our fast passes and we were to go to the Sonoma Terrace (near the Wine Trattoria) where we waited for about 20 minutes - just hung around. The dinner/show peeps started to form a line and we decided to get in line too - at which point my dd said she had to pee - she is only 2.5 - so DH took her to find a potty - hoping we'd find each other again! The line of course began to move about 3-4 minutes after they left.

I ended up stopping in the first "terrace" area of the blue section - right in front of Mickey - just past the steps and against the ropes. I was concerned - due to the gigantic stone wall that my dd might have difficulty seeing - should they find me (which they did) but it was not an issue at all - no shoulder sitting - just holding her on our hips or letting her stand on the tray of her stroller.

We were in the "might get a bit of spray area" but not the splash zone and we did get damp - then it started to rain so we got fairly wet - though it only lasted a few minutes.

All in all it was a wonderful show and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I think dd still likes Fantasmic better (me too) but it was still an impressive show, and definitely worth the dinner tix for the great viewing spot - at least for a special occasion!

I'm an AP holder from Palmdale. If i decide to go, its late in the day, on a last minute ok, lets go. Am I just stuck with PP viewing from behind? is there any chance of me finding a meal package when i get there?

I think i'm going today, arriving around 3:30.

Anyone had experience with using a Guest Assistance Card and the handicapped seating areas at WOC? My dd is not in a wheelchair but still needs to be in a separate area and this is commonly done at DL parades. Are the handicapped areas easy to find in the various sections? Anyone had any issues gaining access?

Yes, you get the FP just like everyone else, and line up in the wait area according to the color of FP you get. You can line up and your daughter can join you closer to the time to enter. Show the CM your FP and card, and they will escort you to the HA area. In my opinion, the HA areas view are not as good as the regular area.

Well I couldn't talk my family into any of the dining options or fast pass. But we did luck out and get a park view room at Paradise Pier. The music portion is broadcast on the TV so we all just sat on the bed and watched out our window. It was FREEZING cold that night so even though we didn't get the full experience of the show, as least we were warm. I will for sure see it again in the summer. For anyone going this time of year--dress in warm clothes.
Watching from a hotel window isn't ideal I know but for someone who can't or won't go in person, it is an option.

I haven't been able to figure out, where is the "reserved area" for those who purchased the picnic option? And where's the best place to stand in that section? I've read a few posts about "top of the stairs" but I'm not sure -which- stairs that would be. I see lots of stairs in the photo, and is it the stairs in front of a section or in back of a section?

Also, do they let you take your stroller in or do you have to park it outside?

Glad I saw this thread after i started a new thread begging for woc advise for a 2012 trip in the works. Very informitive. I will have my wife read it when she gets a chance. Clears up a question I ad about going with a semi large group. Thanks for asking people to be curtiouse about the kid on shoulder thing. I always get behind someone doing that at fantasmic and it kinda rankles i know your trying to let the kids see it but as you said hold them dont shoulder them.
Maybe they will fix the viewing issues or some of them by the time we get to go.

We're going in February - and hope to see WOC on the 22nd. Is the viewing noticably better if you get the TS dining vs picnic dining? If I read this thread correctly, picnic and fast pass are the same combo of areas.

ETA: Also, the woman my sister spoke with said WOC was 30 days out for picnic packages - but the threads here linked in the first post say 60 days. Anyone know which that is?

I will be seeing WOC on 1-31-11 and bought my picnics yesterday when they first became available for that date.

We're thinking that Sunday @ 9:15pm would be the best choice since there are two viewings that evening and most locals will have gone home by then...what do you, the experienced readers of MousePlanet, think and do you have any other updated suggestions to enhance our first-ever viewing of WoC?

I am just trying to figure out the best option for viewing WOC on the busy Easter weekend.

I am not keen on the dinner dining package for either AG or WCT. I was leaning to the picnic option but notice that WCT has a lunch dining package. The DL website lists the viewing option as "Reserved" as opposed to the "Preferred" dining package for dinner. So that is the same as the picnics - right?

Does anyone have any experience with the lunch option at WCT?

I plan on doing the dining package with my family in early March. I was wondering if it was still crazy for the first show. My kids wouldn't be able to stay up until after 10 for the late show. If we get the dining package, are the seats worth it?

I've heard that it's still busy, yes. Crazy, I'm not sure.
WOC wasn't around last March, so nobody knows how the crowds will be that time of year.

You probably know this, there are no seats, it's standing room only.
But I have heard that the viewing area for "preferred dining" is very good.

We are planning on seeing World of Color in late March. I have already seen it but the two other members of our party have not. I saw it from the second part of the yellow viewing area. I loved the view but wanted a better one. We're debating doing the Sit Down Dining Plan or the Picnic Meal. Also, one of the members of our party will have a wheelchair. What is the best way to see this show? What's the handicap viewing like? Dining or Picnic Viewing? What's the best color section? Thanks!!

PS - Of course, we would like to be in the front row closest to the water but don't know how to go about doing that.

The best success Ive had seeing the show is getting tickets for the latest show in Red area. You go all the way down of the viewing entrance to the "Wet Zone". My personal favorite place to watch it is at the very end of the Red Zone, where the Red and Yellow Zones meet in the Wet Zone, and right next to one of the tall speaker towers. Its pretty much the exact center of how the show faces, you will get wet the degree of that depends on the direction of the wind.

I have also done the picnic, they give you yellow section and I got a pretty good spot in there too.

Picnic section is the same as the fastpass section. The ticket with your meal will be either Yellow or Blue.

The HA area is relatively small. I didn't particularly care for the view from there.

The dining package has a separate area. There are fewer people in that area, but if you get someone a level below you that has a child they opt to put on their shoulders, it will still block part of your view. Because of this, any area can have issues.

I agree with Tan Da Man. That spot in the Red section is my favorite, but you must be willing to get wet...sometimes quite wet. It's rarely packed for that reason.

I've heard that you can watch the show from the bar at Ariel's Grotto. When I called, I believe there was a cover charge. Has anyone done this? It will be just me and a friend and we're both 25 and like to have a cocktail. Plus, we've already viewed the show from the very front (we were in the "Splash zone" and while we got misted, we were nowhere near as wet as people make it sound) when we had a dining package at Trattoria (sp?).
So, anyone done drinks and WoC? I haven't been to Ariel's Grotto bar, so I might go check it out even if it isn't during WoC, but figured this migth be a fun alternative to having to stand and wait in lines.

In the past I had seen World of Color using both the Fastpass and Picnic options and was not very impressed. It's been correctly stated before that the viewing location needs an unobstructed view of the water surface and I agree. Monday 1/31 we saw the World of Color again using Fastpasses and because the Park was far less crowded we we able to get the required unobstructed view of the water to see the whole show. My short wife could even see the show.

The bottom line is, absent paying for a premium seat by buying a meal, viewing the World of Color is like everything else good at the Park it's best done on a day when the crowds are lighter.

I *think* I may have a new question for the show.

My sister's family is coming for a work-sponsored weekend at Disneyland at April (nice!). One of the scheduled events is a dinner in at the Grand (not in one of the restaurants; in one of the event rooms) and afterward they will be escorted to a World of Color viewing. No idea what showtime yet.

Has anyone been seated with a prepaid large group such as this? I'm trying to figure out where they might sit so I can tell them where to go for a good viewif they don't actually seem to have someone escorting them right to the spots where Ariel's and Trattoria guests normally go.
