    Wheelchair rental in Anaheim?

I am thinking about just renting a light-weight wheelchair for my mother-in-law while we are at Disneyland. We are staying at the Disneyland hotel, and if we don't take the monorail, the walk back is very long, besides all the walking we will do at the park. I just think it will be WAY too much for her, and I don't want to tire her out before we ever get to the park!

Is there any place that would rent a light-weight wheelchair and deliver it to the Disneyland Hotel? We will have a car, but it would be easier to just have it delivered.

(I had posted this in another section, but I think it will be seen better here)

    Thanks - Kristin

I would contact Deckert's Medical Supply ((714) 542-5607) or OC Medical ((714) 956-4690) and see if they have anything.

Malcon reccommended Deckert's to me, and I had very good service. I would definitely call them. They will deliver to your hotel, before you arrive, and pick it up after you leave. Prices were much less expensive than the parks, and you have the advantage of having it to use from the hotel to the parks. Also, if mom tires, you can use it to get on the rides quicker (check out the Disneyland Accessibility Guide: http://adisneyland.disney.go.com/med.../Mobility1.pdf

Kristen, check with the Disneyland Hotel. When my brother went and stayed at the DLH, they rented a chair at the Disneyland Hotel from Disneyland, I believe it was a different color, and they were allowed to take it back to the hotel and through DTD.

Ok I have to speak up here, this is why the 'myth' that there are Front of the line cheats....using a mobility device will NOT get you front of the line, most times you wait longer than the stand by wait in regular queues if you're with someone using a wheelchair or scooter. The attractions have limits on how many disabled guests they can load per cycle in case they need to evacuate the ride. It might "look" faster but it rarely is because people don't see where the alternate entrance guests wait for their turn on the attraction. The line at Pirates can be up to (and depending on the day) over an hour long while walk on/standby guests are getting in and loaded in 15 minutes or less. Space Mountain is another notorious long wait and you can not use a fast pass to bypass the queue. For the one or two attractions you might luck out and get loaded 'faster' there are so many more that you really don't. The accessibility is the issue. Loading the guests from the exit because the wheelchair or scooter will not fit in the queue is what this is about, not a shortcut to the front of any line.

THANK YOU Mamma for this. Too many people believe this is true. While some rides MAY be faster, most are not. I've seen IASW, where the ride is walk on and we wait 20 mins. POTC is another where you see people running up on straight on, but because of the limit on number of handicapped on, we wait 30 mins. Most Fantasyland rides limit the rides to one disabled group per cycle. POTC is 6, HM is 1, IASW is 6, Space Mountain is 2, etc...

Last weekend I actually had a woman in a wheelchair who cut at Matterhorn (I had waited in the line like we are supposed to) tell me "We get to cut cause we rent the whelchairs." This is what happens when the myth is continued.

Right, but you can see Mr P without getting in line, and the rest of the queue is pretty sad when you compare to WDW.

I am curious to anyone who may know, how does the HA situation work on Haunted mansion? do they have special doom buggies? Is that why the ride stops every now and then, so someone with special needs can enter / exit?

Just curious, again. BTW, I shut the ride down last time by pushing my doom buggy front thing up a few seconds too soon. The CM at the end was super friendly, said they had just reset the e-stop mechanism that morning at it was SUPER sensitive, but I felt like a dope stopping the ride for five minutes.

You first talk to the person at the entrance to the line. They will give you a card based on your needs. You then go to the hearse and wait there for a CM to come to you. Based on the color of the card will determine what happens.

If you have a green card, you park your WC or ECV by the hearse. You wait in line on the ramp. When it is your turn, you will walk the rest of the way, and exit normally. When you exit, you will come out, then in the little side gate to retrieve your WC or ECV.

If you have a red card, you will take your WC or ECV with you. When it is your turn, you will enter the elevator last. When the elevator is stopped, they will ask you to wait til everyone has exited. Then the elevator operator, will walk you down the side aisle to the loading area where they will alert the loading people you are there. There you wait for the doom buggies to cycle. When it gets to #5 (there are 131 buggies) they will stop the ride. The moving walkway will stop. You will then either maneuver the WC onto the walkway and transfer, or walk from the chair area to the buggie. After the ride, you will not exit at the regular exit. You will circle back to the load area where they will stop the ride so you can exit (and the next guest can load.) You will then walk back up the side aisle and wait for an elevator operator to assist. After they empty the elevator, they will escort you back into the elevator and ask you to stay against the wall. When you get back up to the entrance, they will ask you to wait while they load everyone. Once everyone is in the elevator, they will exit you. (As you can tell, I have done this a few too many times.)

Sorry if I am dunst, but whats the hearst? The house?

So you stay on the ride, what does it look like between the exit and entry area? How far of a ride is it?

So you get back to the entry area, the ride stop, you exit, and you go back up the elevator with just you and the CM on it? So you get to see it un-stretch?

Wow, I can see how this ride could take ages as a WC or ECV guest when everyone else is walking on, there can basically only be one special needs person at a time, out of 131? That dispels alot of the myths...

The carriage out front with the coffin in it.

A dark hallway. It's where the control room is for the ride so you see.... a black curtain with light coming out from above and below it. Woo-hoo! LOL It's actually rather short. You don't realize how close you are to the beginning of the ride when you're at the end.

So you get back to the entry area, the ride stop, you exit, and you go back up the elevator with just you and the CM on it? So you get to see it un-stretch?
It's technically a lift, not an elevator so the thing is that they can't take as many people up as they can take down. Which is another reason to restrict the size of the groups going through the line with a wheelchair, ECV, ect.

It's still waiting, you're just waiting a different way. People realllly don't appreciate it until they've really done it.

I hate playing "my park is better than your park" (and I'm a DL person) but I have to agree that the queue for TSM at WDW is pretty amazing. I was really glad that I knew enough (thank's Mouseplanet) to go thorugh the Standby queue once (1st thing in the morning, after stroller parking and getting fastpasses to go back later). It did make DL's posters look fairly boring.

I've only been with a person in a wheelchair once, ages ago. At that point, because we were a party of more than x (6?) they made part of the group wait in the regular lines and the wheelchair wait at the handicapped entrance. When the main group got to the front, then they loaded the wheelchair. It sounds like that is no longer the case, at least, not on busy days.

    Renting Wheelchairs?

We might need to rent a wheel chair for both parks. Where do you do this and what is the price? Also is there a discount for Disney Visa members?

Is the wheelchair rental work the same as the stroller where it has to stay in the park?

According to the MousePlanet Disneyland Park Guide:

If your rented stroller goes missing through the day you can return to the rental station (near the right train tunnel as you enter the park) for a replacement. Strollers rent for $15 (two for $25), wheelchairs are $32, and ECVs are $65. Both the wheelchair and ECV prices include a refundable $20 deposit. During peak periods a joint rental operation for both parks may be set up in the Esplanade area between Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure; during slower periods of the year each park runs its own rental operation immediately inside each park.
Yes, you can only take the wheelchair to the Parks and the Esplanade between the parks. If you want a wheelchair or scooter that can go outside of the parks, there's a discussion in the Theme Park Access guide with several first hand experiences with various companies that provide this service.

thanks I guess I should have checked that before I asked my question. Sounds too pricey for me so we might just do without if we can. Atleast with the strollers I can get the Disney visa discount.

I rent from Deckert's and get a rate about $30 a day. It delivers and will pick up from the hotel

    $30 for a manual chair?

Deckert's is my rental choice also. (The two fav's here are Deckert's and OC Medical.) I generally rent the ECVs, and their prices vary depending on the length you rent for. For 2.5 days, I usually get a rate of $72. But a week will be about $170.

The strollers are cheaper, and don't require a deposit.

Has anyone had rented a wheelchair from a medical supply company called Shamrock? I couldn't remember the company that was recommended on the boards so I Googled and Shamrock came up. Thanks!

I've merged your thread with another on the same topic.

The most frequently used companies by people here are Deckert's Surgical and OC Medical Supply. I haven't heard of Shamrock. If you use them, please let us know how it goes.

This probably won't get the exposure it should but I have to go Off huge on the awesome customer service Deckerts offers their customers. I got into town and realized that part of my daughters wheelchair didn't make it down with us and her comfort is important to me so I called Deckerts at 8:30 am and explained our situation and that we couldn't go to the park without a chair....I had a chair in an hour, her size, high quality and only $35.00 for 4 days! I can't recommend this company high enough.

Oh yeah. Our last trip (last weekend) I forgot to call for a scooter. I called Thursday night, after they closed, left a message, and they called me back at 8am and had a scooter to the hotel before 9am.

    Scooter Rental near Disneyland

Looking for a great "scooter rental company" near Disneyland. If my family decide to stay at the Tropicana Inn and Suites we may rent a scooter for my dad. I know that Disneyland has the stroller rental for the park only. However, we will be there for a week so I'm just looking for a scooter that my dad could use all over to the parks and back. Any suggestions on a great rental company that will deliver/pick up to Tropicana Inn and Suites.

Deckert is the scooter rental place of choice on here. OC Medical is the second choice.
