Is it too early to talk about the WDW marathon 2011?

I'm planning on being there, if I don't get into New York. I've already cleared it with the wife and everything. I doubt I'll do the Goofy this time , just the marathon. Anyone else planning on going?

I'm planning on doing the Goofy again in 2011. I promised myself no more full marathons after WDW 2010 but that promise didn't even last one week! Oh well..... I suppose there are worse things I could do with my time

I know this is still a long way off but an update for the WDW Half Marathon, it's now 50% full. Anyone interested may want to think about signing up.

I'm not sure what I'm doing. I have a friend who's doing Goofy, so I might go down and do the half, then cheer her on for the marathon.

I was contemplating it - but the weather reports from last year are holding me back. The fact that it was perfect weather the year before is about the only thing that's making me consider it.

Well, I didn't get into New York, so now I'll focus on Disney. Not too bad of a trade off in my opinion. It really all depends on my wife's job hunt. If she finds something by August, I'm in.

I'm registered for the half marathon. My friend is running Goofy, so I'll be running with her for the half, then cheering her on the next day.

You've got me strongly considering the 1/2. I mentioned it to my trainer today and he suggested trying a six-mile run to see how well I handle it. He thinks if I can do that in under two hours I ought to be able to work up to the 1/2 by January. Right now I'm doing 5K runs and pretty comfortable with those.

    Definitely, Andrew.
When I did the WDW half with TNT, we ended up doing a group training on our 6 mile day (wasn't initially scheduled that way, but due to hurricanes/tropical storms, that's the way it worked out) - and our coach said if you can do a 10K (6 miles) you can physically do a half.

And I know our 6 mile was in Sept - so if you can do it now - no sweat with being ready by January.

Well, my wife (new nursing grad) just got a job and stats September 7th. She said if she got one by the end of August, then I could do a January marathon. Even though she doesnt start until September, she technically has a job now, right? Looks like Disney Marathon 2011 here I come!!!!

Never mind. I'm just not the running type, apparently.

I am however starting to ramp up cycling distances.

Andrew, I haven't been reading this thread much, but I want to speak up for all the non-runners who do the half marathons. You don't *have* to run the distance, you just have to complete the distance.

I didn't run any of the Princess half, am not planning on running any of the DL half, and have been doing pretty well with maintaining the pace of 16 minutes per mile, required by the Disney races.

When I started training for Princess, AdrienneK suggested a book called Marathoning for Mortals, which has run, run/walk, and walk half marathons/marathon training programs. If you're regularly doing 5K runs, you'd probably be fine for January using this program.

    I tried to snip Mary's response but I can't.

Andrwe: If Kevin, Mary and I can do it, YOU can do it. Don't forget AVP has done it and hasn't Mox done it, too??

I cannot tell you the feeling of accomplishment from having done this. Plus... if you do WDW, you can come do Anaheim in Sept 2011 with me & Kevin and get a Coast to Coast medal!!

Consider walking it or maybe doing run/walk splits. The Disney races are so much fun! The back-of-the-pack crowd is always awesome!!!!

I'm thinking of wearing a costume for the half marathon, especially since I will be taking my time on this one to stop and take photos etc. I will definitely not be dressing as Tinker Bell. Way too many of those already!

You might want to plan on 2 differenct costumes. One for cold weather and one for warm weather. Just a thought...

    It gets cold in Florida?
(I don't know what I would have done if I'd been racing last year. I think I had ONE training session prior to the 09 half where I had to wear long pants and a warm hat!)

Race Retreat and Pasta Party in the Park tickets are now on sale.

This past January's race would have been a great time to have that Race Retreat package. Has anyone done this before? I'm curious to hear a comparison of that experience to the standard one.

    How's everyone's training going?

I've had some problems with my piriformis, so I've taken to trying the tennis ball "massage" trick. It helps a little bit.
