Grand Californian Redwood and Fountain Pools going down for refurb

Just spoke to the GC hotel operator twice and was told that two of the three GC pools will be down from 1/19-2/20.

Just spoke with GC operator and she said the pools were closed except for the Mariposa pool? She indicated that the other two should be open by Feb???

    Any reports?

I could not be more disappointed to hear this. We finally made the decision to stay at GC for the 1st time starting 2/28, and we love our time at the pool. I, too, just called and spoke with a hotel operator. He told me the pools are currently closed and are scheduled to re-open March 1 (which is subject to change). Fingers crossed that they do!!!

Actually made reservations at DL Hotel as well now . As we get closer, if it doesn't look like the GC pools will be open during our visit, I think we'll stay at DL Hotel. Will be quite bummed, as I was so looking forward to finally staying at GC, but I really want the pools to be available to us when we stay there. Maybe they will actually make their refurb deadline and open on time, but I won't hold my breath.

At least one of the pools will be open. CM said it was refurb of the "deck" - concrete? if closed, i'm planning on talking "nicely" about the use of the DH pool. A bit of a walk, again assuming weather is cooperative, but at least I can fulfill promise to daughter to go swimming.

i already asked about the dl hotel pool, and it is available for gc hotel guests during the refurb. such a hassle to trek all the way over there though (imo).

from what i understand, the only pool open is the new one by the villas. saw a pic, and it looks really small.

I just got back on Sat. and they are jackhammering the interiors of the pools. Both are closed obviously and the Mariposa pool and hot tub are open. I have heard closing will last until the end of Feb. and also heard March. We also thought about switching to DLH or even PP concierge as it was even less. Our trip was fine and we are glad to have stayed there....even used the Mariposa pool.

    Update on GCH pool renovation

The Redwood pool (with slide) was scheduled to reopen on March 1, but I called this morning, and that's been pushed back to March 15. After years of going to DL, we finally decided to take the plunge and stay at GCH from 2/28-3/5, but now that I know the pool will not be open, we are going to stay at DLH. A bit disappointed, as we were excited to finally stay at this hotel, but we will do it another time when we can have the full experience. We definitely enjoy our pool time, complete with waterslides!

That said, I am still excited for our trip and stay at DLH. How could we not be excited to spend a week at DL!!

Thanks to those on MP who gave me the heads up about the GCH pool closure...would have been bummed to find out at check-in that it was closed.
