American airline question?
Hello it's me again asking another question. Were coming and leaving on American and I was wondering if anyone knows or had to do this themselves, that if AFTER tickets are bought someone in your party cant go but someone else can take there place of ticket should I say, how easy or what steps would need to be taken to change the name on the plane ticket? With all the new TSA rules and all I wonder how this whole process would work. Anyone have had to go through this? Buying out 3 months in advance I want to be prepared if husband gets called back to work and I can bring someone else. Thanks in advance..

You can not do this. The plane ticket must be used by the person who's name is on the ticket. It is not transferable to anyone. This is not just on American Airlines all airlines have this rule.

I'm guessing that you could do a change, but you would probably be subject to the $75 change fee. Ask your travel agent.

My TA is only Disney TA not for airfare. But I'am going to call American Airlines and speak to a live person about this just in case I have to make a change. Better safe than sorry I say.

If you are worried about someone in your party having to cancel, you can buy trip insurance for just your tickets. Its rather cheap. Just make sure the insurance covers the possible reasons for the cancellation. (Most dont cover "oh, I just dont want to go anymore" types of things.) Its available through AA and other vendors.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

Hi there! Plane tickets are non-transferable (all airlines) & names must match govt. ID for anyone over 18 yrs. Your best bet is flight insurance

Let me reiterate what GusMan alluded to - most trip insurance is very specific in what reasons they'll cover. Things like sickness, death in the family, a weather disaster in either your starting or ending locations - those things are covered. A person who can't go because of work, or who just decided not to go, or whose personal plans have changed, is NOT covered by trip insurance.

This is your best bet, talk to them and find out for sure what you can or can't do or if there is a cost involved.
