Moonrise Kingdom - I love Wes Anderson's films but I didn't connect with Life Aquatic or Darjeeling Ltd...so I was on the fence about going to see MK. I am really glad I did. I think this is one of his best. I love the visuals in the film, and the two kids are fantastic. My favorite of his is The Royal Tenenbaums and this is now a really close second. I want to see it again!

Bytebear, I allways thought the mall scene in Valley Girl was filmed at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, I went there after seeing Fast Times at Ridgemont High. One thing that allways gets me about Valley Girl is that the girl in the movie poster looks different ? than the actress in the movie.

George of the Jungle. One of my all time favorite Disney/Brandon Fraiser films. I am a HUGE fan of the original cartoon and absolutely loved what they did with this movie. It's been a few years since I've seen it, but will always drop everything to watch it again.

"Brave" - I'll admit that the trailers didn't do all that much for me, but I loved the Scottish setting, so I was interested. Absolutely loved the movie. There might have been some tears involved. I might also need to see the film again. I forgot that we ended up with the "Art of Brave" book, so I'm really happy about that.
And you're gonna wanna stay past the end credits.

We went and saw Brave yesterday afternoon with my sister and brother-in-law and his parents. His mom is from Scotland and she was really excited to see this. We loved the short La Luna. The audience at our showing actually applauded at the end of it. It is so beautiful and simple. As for Brave itself, we all loved it.

Safety Not Guaranteed - Small little indie with small little indie quirks but I liked it quite a bit. Caught the good parts of mumblecore without the annoying stuff.
Care to elaborate? The trailer was kind of appealing to me, but I couldn't get past some of the people who are cast in the film. It really just makes me wish I'd gone to see the show when it was here recently.Don't know anything about the film but had just heard of it because Mary Lynn Raskub is in it. It's on our list of maybes, if we get the chance.

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" - I don't have any familiarity with the book, but when we saw the trailer, it sounded intriguing. I don't know if all of the plot points come from the book, but I think they did an amazing job with re-writing history to fit the "new" backstory. I thought the acting was terrific all around. Love seeing Dominic Cooper so much nowadays. It was pretty gory and scary in many parts, so there are a lot of scenes I didn't watch.

It all just seemed very amateurish. Admittedly, jukebox musicals barely have any story anyway and is forced into service of the songs rather than the other way around. But the leads were extremely bland and forgettable. Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin feel like their in an SNL skit gone too long.
Tom Cruise is actually the better performance in the movie, but unfortunately he seems to be the only one aware that they are in a movie and not a karaoke bar and so him actually acting makes him stick out.I can't decide if I want to see this. No interest in the book, but I loved the director's (Timur Bekmambetov) first movies he made in Russia (Night Watch and Day Watch) while he brought the same visual excess to Wanted and it left me completely cold.Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

I really want to go see Abraham Lincoln, but just heard that there was a lot of gore. Has anybody who has seen it tell me if it's truly gory? My gore level is really low. Like that I spent the majority of Jaws in the theater bathroom throwing up. Yeah, it's that bad. Don't want a repeat performance of that. So would appreciate any input.

Don't go. Just got home from seeing this. I'm not into gore and can barely tolerate suspense (my family still laughs about all my gasping during the runaway train film, "Unstoppable"). Since "Lincoln" is rated R, my daughter and her pals needed an adult to get in. For some reason, they thought of me. (Go figure!) There is a LOT of gore, and a lot of suspense. I frequently had to close my eyes. Take the Civil War and throw in vampires, and...well...there's a good reason for the R rating. Spare yourself!
I didn't hate it -- the costumes and settings were appealing, and the story intrigued me. But I didn't love it, either; I'm too squeamish to be a fan.

Saw it last night with my husband...and we liked it! Although...
We met in 1980, so a lot of the music is "our" music. I thought Tom Cruise was really, really good in his role! I didn't go expecting an Oscar quality film, but we did enjoy it. The most surprising thing for us was waiting to see if there was anything after the credits. (There isn't. Don't stay.) There were only maybe 20 other people in the audience, and we could see all of them leaving. I turned to my husband and said, "Did you notice that everyone in here is old?" We had a great laugh over that!

Saw Brave on Friday and really loved it! It was a lot funnier than I was expecting, and I loved all the characters and the setting. The scene after the credits was fun too. And I loved the short, La Luna! Very sweet.
I would love to see Brave...great reviews!!!

Totally agree! We were on the fence about this one too, but saw it tonight and can't wait to see it again. What a lovely, quirky, charming film! The two kids are great, the other performances are excellent, and the soundtrack is a delight. I really like Francoise Hardy, so hearing her on the soundtrack was a nice surprise. Oh, and the visual details... I could go on and on. Loved, loved, loved the costume design. The girl's dresses looked like they were straight out of the Butterick pattern book!
I took my 9 year old nephew to see it on Friday (and it was my second time watching it) and he loved it too. That made me happy haha.
I saw Brave on Saturday (took him to see it too) and it was so good. I loved, loved, LOVED la luna. Warmed my heart.

Doh! I should have known this before we saw it. I loved Brave BTW and I did cry to. The one weak point was the non-villian (witch). She's under developed, IMO because you don't really understand her motivations (given that she had the power to bring an entire kingdom to ruin). I felt that could have been flushed out some more. Sort of like the story writers themselves didn't quite have the final idea themselves if she was a force for good or bad, or just a "genie" granting requests.And you're gonna wanna stay past the end credits.
The Monsters University preview was cute, but IS IT HOBBIT TIME YET? So excited for The Hobbit!!!!

Saw it. It was decent. Some good laughs, some duds. The integration of Ted is amazing and by the end when it got a little bit serious I was surprised to find I'd bought into it as much as I had.
