    Mt Everetts [Expedition Everest]

Ok help me out all you Disney experts.
Going next week to WDW and debating if I want to ride MT Everetts. My get anxiety just thinking about it but still I want to ride it.Can you tell me something about the ride?
I have rode Space Mountain but it's in the dark. Not a big roller coaster fan but the rides looks neat.

Heck, if you can take Space Mountain, you will love Expedition Everest! It's a fairly tame ride, to a point, but there's a really exhilarating moment when the ride goes back-wards that makes the ride worthwhile. I have a problem with certain rides and this one, normally, doesn't affect me too adversely. However, and this is just a personal issue, at times the ride can cause me to brown-out (not quite a full black-out, but nearly so) at the bottom of the back-wards drop. For normal people, however, it's not an extreme ride at all: no loops, no extreme drops, just a great theme, fast motion, at times, and a memorable back-wards drop. You'll love it!

    1999 - Coronado Springs (1 night); 2003 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2005 - All Star Music (7 nights); 2007 - POP Century (10 nights); 2008 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2009 - POP Century (10 nights); 2010 - Dolphin (2 nights); 2011 - POP Century (7 nights); June 8-18, 2012 - POFQ (10 nights); next trip,June 18-22, 2013 - POFQ (5 nights). If I'm not at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, I'm not really happy.

Thanks for the info. I went on YOU Tube and watched the ride 2 times. It reminded me of Big Thunder Mountain except for the dark. Is the drop backwards real long? I guess I should just do it.

The backwards segment lasts about 30 seconds. It feels like you are making a complete circle inside the mountain. Another track change then you go forward again. The great thing about Disney's 'coaster-like attractions',
they are not too timid for the big kids, nor are they too extreme for the little
ones. It does have a longer lift at the start than other coasters. Unless you are too freaked out about these kind of things, try it....you'll like it !

Really, whilst not an extreme roller coaster when compared to some others it really is nothing like BTM either in the dark or otherwise!

OHHH!! Please do go on it! It is not to be missed. It is so much fun, its thrilling but not overboard and the theming is so worth it!! Also, if you love it during the day, it is 10 times as good after dark. That one initial climb is gorgeous.

I would have to agree that EE starts out pretty tame, but it is more thrilling than BTM or even SM. Read into that the ride is faster and you do experience more intense turns and the like.

It is surely one of those rides that is worth the try.
And yes, it is super-cool after dark as well.

If you can ride Space Mountain you can ride EE no problem. Its more exhilarating and more comfortable than Space Mountain too.

The going backwards part threw us off the first time and we felt a little twingy for a while...but once we were aware of going backwards in the dark, we knew what to expect and that made it better the following times we went on.

It is a great ride! So smooth! No bumpy and jerky-ness to it. And watch out for that angry Yeti!

That's a good way to put it. I really love EE, but that backward section is about as intense as I want to experience. It's just this side of having fun - not quite bad for me, but close!

How can you say no extreme drops? That main drop is about as extreme as anything I've been on! Fortunately it's short, so I can enjoy it without freaking out.

Seriously, go on EE - it's really a fun coaster!

The very first time we and a group went on EE a few years ago when it stopped and started going backwords someone in our group thought it broke and they thought they were going to die and wet themselves. I personally never laughed so hard in my life. Sorry, just had to share that.

Ha, Dan, take a look at Cedar Point and some of the drops they have on their coasters, and you'll see what extreme is. As always, extreme is in the eye of the beholder, but the tallest coasters at CP define extreme for me and that's what I was using as a measuring stick for Everest, which is tame with a capital "T" compared to them.

Sadly, Everest is about as extreme as I can go, and I can't even do that one more than once or twice a visit; getting old stinks.

pete, I agree that Everest's drop isn't as extreme as some of today's cutting edge coasters. But I'd still label its drop to be on the low side of extreme. I like getting there first thing in the morning and riding 3 or 4 times in a row - that's enough for me!

It's more than enough for me, sadly. I can ride at least once per day; if I ride a second time, it has to be much later in the day, and even then it's dicey.

Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but I wasn't sure where to put it exactly.
My trip to WDW is coming up this Saturday (I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!), and I'm the most excited to ride EE.
I've only been on it about four times, and that was during my last trip there about two years ago.
When I rode it last, the yeti was MIA, and we were all quite puzzled as to if the yeti was just the shadow projection or not. Luckily, we saw a special months after our return home to realize that NO! The yeti was real, he was just hiding during our visit.
Does anyone know if the Yeti is there now? I would LOVE to finally get to see him, although I'm not getting my hopes up just incase!

    Thanks!

The yeti is there, but sadly he's not working as well as he should. There were cracks in the cement foundation that he stands on, and as yet the Imagineers haven't figgered out a way to fix the problem. They are running him in "B" mode, where he doesn't actually move, but there are moving lights and strobes to give him the sense of action. You're passing by pretty quickly, so the effect isn't bad. But it's still not as cool as when he was totally working and waving his arm out over your car!

From what I've heard, it simply takes time (and money) to fix. It's a matter of whether or not they want to shut down the ride for an extended period (I don't know exactly how long though) to get it fixed.

You might be correct. What I've heard is that it's such a major deal to fix the problem (basically ripping the side of the mountain out to get to the foundation) that it may have been deemed simply not worth it.

    Expedition Everst

    Hey y'all

My daughter has come home from school and has been tellling me that EE has some corkscrews and loops/ I have her all psyched up to go on it and now she is beginning to have second thoughts...

Are there any loops and/or corkscrews or is it more just like Thunder Mountain meets Matterhorn/

    PS my daughter is 10

    Thanks y'all!!

Thorman, I merged your thread with one that discusses EE. You might want to take a look at some of the previous comments as it will help describe the intensity of the attraction.

But in short, there are no loops or corkscrews. There are some pretty good turns, but you never go upside down.

    Whoa! Everest versus Space Mountain

I personally would have to disagree with what seems to be the popular opinion here.

I don't see how Expedition Everest is in anyway more tame than Space Mountain. In Space mountain the experience is flying through space, and what makes it fun is you don't see, but feel how fast you are going.

With Expedition Everest you see, in broad daylight, all of the drops and rapid turns. It is much more of a roller coaster, and in my opinion therefore far more intense.

Except for the part where you're going backwards in the dark.

I sometimes FEEL like I'm going upside down on that part, even though I KNOW I'm not. I'm sure that's what the 10 year old's friend thought were corkscrews and loops.
