Napa Rose Menu Question
For all you Napa Rose regulars out there:
I booked the chef's table thanks to the good reading on here about it. Requested seats 5 & 6. They said they would make a note but that they don't guarantee it. I was looking at some reviews on another site last night and have a question...
The review said that when you sit at the chef's table to not even bother looking at the menu. That the chef will come over, ask your likes & dislikes and create menus especially for you. Is this true? If it is true, is it the same price as the Vintner's menu?
My son doesn't like set menus too often as he likes to choose his own food, but I know he'd be open to it if the chef was going make him dishes based on his likes...
Thanks for any insight you may have!

Regarding no guarantee - I'm guessing you have the 8:30 seating. If you have the 5:30 seating you really should get your seats. If you have the 8:30 seating and the 5:30 people don't LEAVE, you might not get your seats because they can't kick them out. BTDT.
Regarding the Chef's Table:
1- Yes, the Chef will create a special menu for you. You CAN order off the menu if you like but, yes, the chef will ask you what your likes and dislikes are. Don't forget to mention any allergies, too. And be specific. I am sensitive to walnuts but JUST walnuts. I once said walnuts and ordered something with pecans, which I love, and they made it without pecans because pecans are nuts.
2- Yes, they will charge you the same price as the Vintner's menu pricing. Also, they will let you choose your own dessert but don't forget that if you want the Vintner's Menu dessert, you have that option to but you'll need to ask what it is because it is not on the regular dessert menu.
And you didn't ask this but if you like wine, you can also order the "Wine Flight" - it will be the same price as the Vintner's Menu flight BUT it will be customized to go with your customized menu.

Thank you so much Adrienne! We do have a 5:30 seating. What she said is, "I have noted your seat request and we will do our best to accomodate you". I just took that as not being guaranteed...but I was paraphrasing.
I am doing the wine tasting. He is not old enough in the U.S. or I think he would do it too. He's 19. I think his palette is better than mine and want him to taste everything, but he's all about choice! If he can't choose, he's not happy! That's very nice to know they'll tailor the menu like that! Thanks for the info - much appreciated!

That's probably SOP - at 5:30 you have the best chance of getting your preferred seats.

Oh, bummer! Well, at least he can still smell the wines. Sometimes I like to just sit and smell them because they smell so good!

Can I ask whether you made your reservation through Disney Dining or Napa Rose directly? Because I've never had an issue with booking a particular seat at the counter. There have been times that I was told a particular seat was already booked for a specific time, so it wasn't available, so I just picked a different seat. If you book through Disney Dining, I would expect the "we can't guarantee" answer because they don't actually have access to the restaurant's records. But if you book directly through Napa Rose, that shouldn't be an issue.
I always recommend that people book with the restaurant directly whenever possible rather than go through Disney Dining.

Hmmm, then I can't understand why they'd say that to you about it not being guaranteed.

I'm guessing they've made it a standard procedure for Chef's Table even if they're booking the early seats. I was a tad upset (but still polite!!!!!! I promise!!!! I tell anyone that I pay their wages!) when we showed up and our seats "weren't available" because I had no idea that could happen. If they've had other disappointed guests, and I could see that happening, they may have decided it's just easier to have a standard CC disclaimer.

Well to be fair to the wonderful CM's at Napa Rose, you never know if guests are late (for shame on such people!!!
) for whatever reason and they still try to accommodate them!

You were late for an 8:30 ressie, though, so you're forgiven.
I will say this, and please, don't be insulted when I say it...

(see? Smilies?)
In our case, the people were very late for a 5:30 reservation. I realize that they were either way going to annoy the crap out of someone - either the people who were late for their reservation or the people coming in for the 8:30 reservation. It's a no-win situation for the restaurant.
But I had the reservation first. (When I made it, I had the choice of 5:30 OR 8:30, so I knew we had our reservation first.) And they were very late. I think it would've been very appropriate for NR to say "We're sorry but the seats you reserved are no longer available. We can accommodate you elsewhere but we can only hold your seats for --- minutes."
AND - oh oh oh - I just realized something! That could explain why they would say to someone with a 5:30 reservation "We can't guarantee the seating but we will note your request." Because if the 5:30 people show up at 6:15, then they could say "Well, we tried to honor your request but at this point we cannot."

Far be it from me to advocate breaking the law, but I'd say go for it. Order the wine pairings for both of you; they might not check ID (especially at the Chef's Table). If they do, just have him show his passport--they might let him drink anyway! I've had this exact same experience with au pairs at Disney restaurants. Most don't even check ID at special dining experiences (as it should be, I think).

You do realize if they get caught (meaning Napa Rose) they could lose their liquor license? You do realize they hire people (there are a few on this board) to go into these places to verify ID is requested and checked? Do you realize the fine can be up to $10,000 for serving a person under 21, and the person (server) can be arrested? Do you really think it is good to recommend someone do something illegal?
Now, if mom orders the alcohol and allows the child to sneak sips, the worst that can happen is the restaurant asks you to leave.
