Booking Disney hotel-How far in advance?

We are planning a trip to Disneyland in mid/late April 2010. How soon will I be able to book at the Disney properties? Do they typically open for booking a certain number of months in advance?

In case you're not aware, when you book the hotel they will charge your credit card for the first night right then and the balance is due when you actually stay at the hotel, so choose wisely.

I have never been charged before until the stay. But then again many of my visits are during conventions, so maybe there are exceptions?

maybe conventions are different but since they made the change to start charging the 1st nights stay we've been charged that 1st night every time we book a room!!! It's ok, I just figure it's that much less we have to pay when we get there!!
