Epcot International Food and Wine Festival 2009

It's the most wonderful time of yearrrrr!

It is never too early talking about one of my favorite times at WDW! So I thought why not start now.

Anything that has to do with the F&W Festival is fair game.

Until more info on the booths come out I thought it would be fun if we all answered a few questions:

    When are you going?

    Who are you going with?

What are you hoping they will have?

What are you hoping they will get rid of?

Favorite dish and/or wine if you have been previously?

Anything else you would like to add?

Also if anyone has any pictures of past years goodies please feel free to share!

When are you going? October 29-November 6th or 7th

Who are you going with? Parents, Sister, Aunts, Uncles, and 5 cousins and probably having my uncles who live in FL meet up with us.

What are you hoping they will have? I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED the Pina Colada last year from San Juan and if they don't have it again I will be devastated! I also love the crab cake from the Hops and Barley Market and the Grilled Beef and Hummus from Morocco so I hope they bring that back again.

I know they won't bring it back because this stand changes every year, but I am all for bringing Louisiana back. The etouffe was awesome.

What are you hoping they will get rid of?

Spanakopita from Greece. It has been there for the past two years. Don't get it unless you can eat spinach without any flavoring.

Favorite dish and/or wine if you have been previously?

Tough one.....I have been going for two years in a row and I have had these two dishes both times (well multiple times each trip) and every single time it was good. So my 'Must-Dos' for the dishes would be the Crab Cake sandwich from the Hops and Barley Market (located in front of America) and the Chilaquiles from Mexico located in front of Mexico.

Favorite Wine would be the Dynamite Vineyards Merlot from San Francisco.

Anything else you would like to add?

Hopefully they will bring back the F&W Festival gift card bracelets. They are great! You load up the card and wear it around your wrist. So much easier than trying to find your room key/cash/credit card. I would highly recommend it!

    When are you going?
    October 16-20
    Who are you going with?
Solo trip, though may get to see a few MousePad friends while I'm there.
What are you hoping they will have?
I'd read SOMETHING (I think it was a link to the Denver newspaper that claimed to have info) that indicated Lousiana would be back. I hope they change up the offerings a little bit, but not too much! I actually ran into someone I'd met at a coworker's house while they were working the Louisiana area last year! She figured it out when I said I wasn't allowed to accept the Mardi Gras beads they were handing out (it's a 'rule' that I made up at the New Orleans airport that beads can only go out, they can't come in).

If it's cold out, I hope they bring back the curried butternut squash soup (India). It's not as good if it's warm out, but it's still good.

What are you hoping they will get rid of?
Lobster Roll. I just don't get it. (Maybe it's a good lobster roll, but I don't get the appeal of shellfish, mayo and bread). Oh, and the sausage pizza in Italy. A LITTLE creativity would be a good thing!
I actually don't like cooked spinach, but the Spanakopita doesn't bother me. Maybe because of all the fat from the deep fried phylo?

Inconsistency in the booths. Sometimes you walk by one of the booths with lamb, and get assaulted by the gamey smell, othertimes, it tastes wonderful. I had some creme brulee that I think was served too warm one time, too. Although I'd be very frustrated if the lines got super long or they started routinely being sold out of stuff, and given the magnitude of the festival, they DO do a good job on the quality - of course I'd like it to be perfect.
Favorite dish and/or wine if you have been previously?
I was introduced to Banfi Rosa Regale at a Food & Wine pairing a few years back. Even though they don't necessarily have it at a booth, you can get it in the Italian pavillion in the wine shop.

Anything else you would like to add?
Food & Wine pairings are my favorite 'extra', though because of my limited trip (I'm doing MouseAdventure the next month, I couldn't take any more time off from work!) I likely won't get to do one (if we believe the Denver paper)

I also hope they figure out how to get more free seminars into the Wonders of Life pavillion. You have to devote SO much time to go to one, in part because they don't have enough for the demand.

    When are you going?
    October 20-26

    Who are you going with?
Tagrel.com friends, but I'll be solo. I do have a roommate to save on the $$$$.

What are you hoping they will have?
Baklava with pistachios instead of walnuts

What are you hoping they will get rid of?
I'm not into seafood, so that holds no interest

Favorite dish and/or wine if you have been previously?
It was in 2005, so my memory is blank.....Hubby liked the New Zealand lamb.

Anything else you would like to add?
Looking forward to nibbling my way 'round the world!

Also if anyone has any pictures of past years goodies please feel free to share!

Who are you going with? My Mom

What are you hoping they will have? I hope Louisiana is back with similar yummy items as last year!

What are you hoping they will get rid of? There were quite a few things I could live without.

Favorite dish and/or wine if you have been previously? The etoufee was delish! And I can't get to the wine because of the Grand Marnier Slushies--but if I could I LOVE Rosa Regale and Magicale

Anything else you would like to add? Will probably take more time this year--two half days last year was not enough!

If I go down, I'm going down fat and full.

I have a set routine where one year I visit during the F&W Fest., and then the next year I'll do Christmas time. I did F&W last year, so this year it's the 2nd week of December. I really enjoy doing a meal around the World Showcase, nibbling and sipping my way around. I'll start one evening at Mexico and work up to America, and then a couple nights later I'll start in Canada and work that way up to America. It's just so cool to enjoy such a unique meal while standing around the World Showcase Lagoon.

And my favorite wine by far is the plum wine that they have in Japan. Totally unique, cinnamon spiced wine that's more candy tasting than wine-ish. Really yummy!

Wow - I'm gonna miss the ol' F&WF this year!!!

The Shrimp on the Barbie has changed. At least it didn't look like that when I ate it in November. I had two big prawns and a sweet potato hash as a side. There was also no sauce on top. It was really good, but I am a sauce lover so that looks really good too.

Something I hope they bring back: The cookbook that has ALL the recipes from the booths that year. Last year they just had a 'best of' cookbook, but it didn't have everything, and I think it had some stuff that wasn't even being offered at the booths that year (but I could be wrong there). Even if I only make one item from the cookbook, it's nice to have to see how they made something.

I also used it to learn that flan and creme brulee are the same except for two things - the carmalized sugar on top (which is pretty obvious), and flan has fewer eggs (which is why creme brulee is richer tasting!)

I was just poking around on AllEars - and saw they had some details of the Festival for this year....

Looks like they figured out a way to minimize the crowds at the wine seminars and the cooking demonstrations --- charge $8 for them. I guess at that price point they'll thin out the crowds some, but not break a person's bank if they were wanting to do multiples, but sheesh, that's been a free staple since they started the fest. BUT, they did have to do something to deal with the popularity.

(And WHY can't Disney get this info on their website before the 'fan sites'?)

I agree about the $8 Drince. It really limits the amount of them I am going to go to. But, maybe that is the idea.

After googling the Sweet Sunday guys the weekend I'm there - I think I'm going to do that one. (It was that, or the French lunch, which was also very tempting!)

The Sukiyaki Beef Roll from Japan is one of my dad's favorites and was really disappointed when it wasn't there last year so he is pretty happy to see it there now.

I had the cheeses at the Mouse Catch last year and it was on a pretty warm day so the cheeses were pretty warm. I would say if you can hit this stand first thing in the morning when they are fresh if you can.

And when they have all the options. (Stopped by once or twice when they didn't even have all the options available.)

Oh cool, there are two baklavas again! I like getting both (it's a bit to walk between the two booths, but all in the name of science!) and compare them head-to-head. I don't remember which 'won' last year, though!

I also had the Cabbage Slaw with the Lobster Roll from the Hops & Barley Market in 2007 and I fell in love it was so tasty. They didn't have it last year so I am excited to see it with the crab cakes!

No Pina Coladas I guess I will have to try the Dragon Berry Colada I think it takes multiple tastes to get the true flavor.

My mom already called dibs on that too Cathy. You have to take a picture for her when you go!

What is Chicken rmqi from China? I don't remember that from last year. Wasn't it Sha Cha Chicken last year? I wonder what this could be.

Is she going to make it? I don't normally take pictures from the booths (it's too hard to balance the food and camera and drink etc, especially when I'm on a solo trip) but for your Mom, I'll take a picture of this one!

I'm not sure what that chicken dish is. I'm glad they change some things up every year - makes it enough of an adventure for me to HAVE to go every year!

She makes lava cake already (I hate chocolate, but love when she makes this!). She has made ganache, but I don't think she has ever made lava cake with ganache. Don't worry if you don't take pictures! I'm sure we will be able to find it some where via google.

She still has the milk chocolate creme brulee recipe you gave her last year. She said she wants to make it for her sister's and mother, but have yet to have them all over at the same time.
