Do you have a car? If not you are going to need a taxi. Busses don't start running until 2 hours before park opening. So unless it is easy EMH where MK opens at 8AM you will need a taxi. If it is early EMH you will have to be waiting for the busses at 6. You will get to the front of MK no later than 6:30. You will then walk over to the Contemporary for your check-in at 7AM.

Always check with the Guest Relations/Front Desk the night before to see what time the first bus for MK will be there the next morning.

PS-For Islands of Adventure get there for no later than 8AM. Pay the extra $5.00 for valet (unless they raise the price during the holidays). The valet parking gets you about a 1/2 mile closer to the parks. We got there at 8AM. Valet parked. Walked the other (what feels like) 1/2 mile to the entrance of Islands of Adventure. Park wasn't supposed to open until 9AM but they were letting people in at 8:30. Not promising it happens all the time but on the chance it can I would take it. Especially a holiday weekend!

Counter service options are faster, and you're not limited to just burgers and chicken strips, either. Looks like you're going to be spending a lot of time at table service restaurants.

Kristin, I'm not 100% positive they're still 'everywhere' though! I think I may have read that they had changed them out for nuggets and less 'desirable' items! (I was using it for illustrative purposes -- oops)

But at home we have a chain or restaurants (they're in the South, and expanding - Raising Canes) that all they have on their menu is chicken strips, crinkle cut fries, Texas toast, and cole slaw (and beverages). If you get a desire for chicken strips and are near one (they don't have any in Florida, though) - they're a really tasty option.

However, I then checked the Plaza menu http://allears.net/menu/menu_pr.htm and with it's salad and sandwich fare, the Plaza actually lends itself to a light lunch in a sit-down restaurant. So now I see your way of thinking. It's good to have 3 ADRs for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at sit-down restaurants. The ADRs on Christmas Eve are 5 hours apart and the Christmas Day ADRs have light lunch fare at the Plaza. No standing around waiting on counter service. B+ in the ADR planning department from me.
Yes, we thought the crowd size along would make us want to take refuge for a sit down... hence the three sit downs And the nice light menu at the Plaza should work well. We wanted a bit later at California Grill, but 5pm was about the best option we could there for Christmas night...

Plus we have a 2.5 year old that will be plate sharing so she'll help us out some...

I have only one tip for you. On the days when you're eating big at night (like at the California Grill), eat lighter at lunch. There's nothing worse than sitting down at a great restaurant and not having an appetite!
That would be a shame. I generally eat light lunches anyway, fish or vegetarian.

It's nice to see someone who gets Monty Python references.

This year, when I'm at WDW, I have ADRs for the following: Rainforest Caf, San Angel Inn, Liberty Tree Tavern, Via Napoli, T-Rex Caf, and Narcoossee's. I figured we'd do one that counts as 2 on the table service credits, since we'll be at Sea World, Busch Gardens Tampa (both are free for me to get in with my pass here at Busch Gardens in VA), and Discovery Cove.

    DLR - 02/01 off site
    WDW - 10/06 POR, 10/07 BCR, 12/08 POR, 9/09 BWR, 12/10 YCR, 12/11 BWR, 12/12 BWR, 10/13 BWR
DCL - 9/09 Eastern (Magic), 11/10 Western (Magic), 11/11 Bahamas (Dream), 8/12 Nowhere (Magic), 12/12 Eastern (Fantasy), 5/13 Caribbean (Wonder)

We contemplated T-Rex Cafe. It sounds fun, but everything says its very loud. Let us know how it is. When's your trip?

We did it last year and it was very loud. Food wasn't bad. Mostly the same as Rainforest Cafe.

The entire trip will be from December 1 through 17. However, the first 7 nights will be onboard the Disney Fantasy cruise ship. I'll be home on the 17th, but will have a computer while at WDW. My reservation is scheduled for December 15th (a Saturday).

I don't know and I don't care if It's a Small World. It's a nice day when you wake up in Disneyland.

The Fantasy Cruise sounds fantastic! My friends want to do a cruise on the Wonder to Alaska, but I'm working on them to try the Fantasy or something that goes to Castaway...

Are you doing show packages with the dinners? Fantasmic/ Candlelight Processional?

The loudness is a huge factor for us since Kid 1 has sound sensory issues... So if he grows out of it or decides when he's older to put up with loud noise we'll have an excellent reason to go back to WDW...

Strangely we can always find reasons we need to go back

No, I do not think the cost for the Fantasmic project would be worth it for us. My Mil is in a wheelchair, so we would be in the handicaped section no matter what. As much as I would enjoy the Candelight Procession, I do not think the rest of my group would and also taking the time out of the park to see it.

Spur of the moment...DH and I are going to stay at AKL! We are planning on not doing the parks. We simply want to enjoy the resort! We will probably go on a resort monorail tour! We have never been to WDW without the kiddos. The only reservations I made were a dinner at California Grill and breakfast at Boma!

I have Sci-Fi, Plaza Inn, Whispering Canyon dinner, La Hacienda, Cali Grill, and Yack & Yeti in October. Sci Fi may be solo, Plaza is solo.

Just you and DH for Whispering Canyon - or are you bringing some of his coworkers along too? Did you do that with the family last year? I ask because I'd always thought that I'd not want to go with just my sister and so I held off going until I was able to tag along with 2 families (6 kids all pre-teens at the time, plus 4 parents and me!) and it was SOOOO much fun. And for my sister and I, it definitely was the right decision.

Right now just us (he will know a couple of people from his union on the trip, but they are from other utility companies so we can't easily plan with them). We didn't do WCC last year. We will be in MK from around 5:30 until park closing (9) mostly to see MSEP. And wanted something close for a late dinner after grabbing a quick snack after his meeting.

ETA: I just was able to switch it to Kona at a slightly later time so I can catch Wishes too.

OK, here's the rundown on my dining choices for my next big WDW trip for my birthday this September/October -

Thursday, 9/27 - arrival dinner at the Coral Reef.

Friday, 9/28 - lunch at Cosmic Ray's, dinner at the amazing California Grill, with after dinner drinks at Mizner's in the GF.

Saturday, 9/29 (MY BIRTHDAY!) - lunch at the Flame Tree BBQ, dinner at Citrico's, followed by the MSEP and Wishes in the MK.

Sunday, 9/30 - breakfast at Hollywood & Vine BEFORE the park opens, a turkey leg for lunch, dinner at Sanaa.

Monday, 10/1 - breakfast at CSR's Pepper Market, lunch at Columbia Harbour House, dinner at the Food & Wine Festival.

Tuesday, 10/2 - goodbye lunch at the Rose & Crown, out on the patio enjoying the World Showcase vibe.
