I LIKE the way you think. I always try to try at least one new restaurant every trip, and I'm slowly making my way through the signature restaurants (because I generally do at most one of those per trip)!

(The deep-fried green bean appetizer at the TS Yak and Yeti restaurant has been good both times I've tried it - first on a solo trip, then on a trip with my sister.)

I haven't made my ADR's yet. Middle of May I am calling. Hoping for these places:

    Cinderella's Royal Table - dinner
    Hoop-Dee-Doo - dinner
    Chef Mickey's - dinner
    Prime Time Cafe - dinner
    1900 Parkfare - dinner
    Kona Cafe - dinner
    Whispering Canyon Cafe - dinner

We have never been to any of these places so we are looking forward and hoping to get reservations!

Thank you, Cathy! The way I see it, they don't call it Walt Disney WORLD for nothing. World being the key word. There are so many things to see, do, try, I'd like to try new things each trip. Being we just went in August, I wanted to do everything new this time. Do I have some favorites building? Yes. Would have loved going back to Le Cellier, 50's Prime Time, but we can do those another trip. Let's see what else there is out there, the choices are plentiful! That goes for staying at different resorts. I so want the next trip to be at the Poly!!!! And the deep fried green bean app will be ordered. As a southern from GA, you include the words deep fried and I'm all in!!!

If you have access to a Green Mill or Schwans, both have fried green beans that are delish!

    Back on topic.....

I need to make my ADRs in a couple of weeks but the park schedule still hasn't been released. I may have to make my best guess and hope that the info on touringplans.com is correct (to avoid dinners in parks with evening EMHs)....

They are fairly lightly fried - but very very yummy. (So don't expect heavy 'SOUTHERN' level breading/batter.)

Regarding Boma - I REALLY enjoy it. I'm not normally a fan of buffets (food is usually boring, been sitting out too long, etc), but I really like this one.

The food is tasty, but not TOO different for 'American' tastes (in fact, I was wishing it was a little more different!), but a
'steak and potatoes and grilled chicken breast and rice and that's all I'll eat' person may find it a bit too 'different'. The first time I ate there for dinner with my sister, we thought it would be an ok restaruant for a vegetarian.

It's been a while since I've been there (I really like Jiko and there are just so many restaurants at WDW - and my longer trips lately have been during the food & wine festival, so that leaves even less time for restaurants!) - I think I need to go 'verify' it's still good

Thanks! I'm a little worried about my mom and my sons. The kids will usually try something at least once (our rule) But mom is not so adventurous in her dining. She likes to stick with stuff that is familiar to her. Buffets are usually the way we go. With 4 kids they usually don't like to sit too long!
We will be there during the food and wine festival too and want to do a little tasting. I thought that I had heard that they let you use some of your snack credits for some of that, I don't remember where I read it but it would be nice to know if anyone knows if this is true of not.

  11. #60

Yes, it is true that you can use your snack credits at the F&W Fest. The items on the menus at the booths will have the "snack symbol" if they are items that are eligible for purchase under the plan. We usually save ours up to use there vs. using them for other items. A bottle of water is $2.00, so we think it's a much better use of the plan to pay cash for that and use our snacks credits to buy $4 items at the F&W. We will be there again this year and are so looking forward to it!!! It's our favorite time of year to go.

Most of the food in the booths you've been able to use snack credits for. Just watch the price of the item, because some are really inexpensive, so you wouldn't want to use your credit for them.

I think the booths are a GREAT way to get your kids to try new things - if they're in the mood to. MOST of the items, if you want a 'real' bite, you probably couldn't all have one (assuming 4 kids + 2 or more adults from your screen name) - but a small taste would be possible with most of the stuff.

They DO have 'regular' stuff at Boma - I think there was a carved meat, plus the 'kids buffet' area that's all standard kid stuff (that adults can eat from). But I like being able to try new things at buffets, because then I'm not STUCK with that for the only thing to eat that meal.

What kind of things could you get for the snack credit? Because that will be so great to give stuff a try that we may use all our snack credits there!! I think we will give Boma a try. if they don't like it we don't have to go back!

We will be traveling with a total of 5 kids (one under 3 so no credits for him) and 8 adults!

At the food booths, just about everything! I documented last years' booth items in my blog here, and I think there MIGHT have been a $4 limit on the items, plus no alcohol on the snack items. (There were so few things over $4 that they might not have put that limit in on the booths) With that many credits to use, plan LOTS of time for Epcot! You might want to break up the munching with some Kim Possible adventures "for the kids".

After 4 hours and losing all of our ADRs and me pulling my hair out we have our ADRs.

Talk about nothing being available. There are 8 of us and we are not seated together for anything.

    Wednesday 8/19- Mama Melrose 5:35
    Thursday 8/20- Primetime 3:50
    Friday 8/21-Liberty Tree Tavern 8:05
Saturday 8/22- Wolfgang Puck Cafe 5:30
    Sunday 8/23-Tutto Italia 4:30
    Monday 8/24- Yachtmen's Steakhouse 6:20
Tuesday 8/25- Spirit of Aloha 8:00

We didn't really want any of those times, but it was either that or nothing. We got Le Cellier the first time we called and then the second time it was all booked. No Primetime for dinner our whole stay so we had to take lunch. Also the rep. asked us if we had every had the DDP before and we said yes, but that it wasn't this hard to make ressies last time and we were there on Free DDP and for 14 days. Then the rep told us that the have a new system that will make the booking process faster. It took us about 15 minutes to book each restaurant.

To all of you who will be booking the next few days....I hope you have better luck than I do. I get that we have 8 people, but it's not like we are sitting together so we are actually considered 4 and 4. The rep. told us to call the restaurant or go earlier in the day to ask them if they can get the tables close together.

I should be happy that we just have ressies.

Just out of curiousity do they save tables for people who are not on the DDP? Like do they allot this many tables for people not on the DDP? Or is it whoever books first wins?

It's crazy how the ADR system works! We went in March and I had made all of our ADR's and had gotten everything we wanted, some at crazy times though. 2 of out friends decided that they were also going to go at the same time, so I gave them a list of where we were eating and they decided where they wanted to join us at (if possible, of course). I had no problem adding them to our ADR at 1900 Park Place, even though by going from 4 to 6 we got stuck in that room off to the side. Then, I called 'Ohana, never thinking that I could get them in there with us and we did and actually ended up getting a more desirable dining time. I guess it just depends how restaurants are set up, table-wise. 'Ohana lots of big tables and tables that could easily be moved together. We ate at Le Cellier in March, it was late, but we ate! I know we will not get in this year though!!! I'll let you know after June 30th!!

I remember back in August of 2004 we didn't even have to make ADRs. We went to Guest Services the morning of whatever park we were in and made a reservation for that day.

I guess those days are long gone

My belief is that you can thank the dining plan for that.

Agreed. But up until the DDP was around, nobody felt so much pressure to book all these ADRs so they could "get their money's worth." Now that so many people have the DDP, they're really trying to plan it all out, and the mere mortals now have to compete a little harder to even book 3 or 4 restaurants on one trip.

Smile July 2009 Cullison Grand Gathering

We are taking 15 members of our family, including grandparents, sisters, niece and nephew, along with our 4 kids to WDW, staying at Beach Club Villas. The trip begins on July 24th, and we can't wait!

We are treating the whole bunch to lodging and Disney Dining Plan, so it should be tons of fun.

Sat, July 25th is daughter Meggie's 11th birthday and Monday, July 27th is sister Deb's birthday.

7/25 Dinner at O'Hana at the Polynesian (Meggie's choice)
7/26 Dinner at Tusker House in AK, part of Safari Celebration Grand Gathering
7/27 Dinner at Rose and Crown Pub in EPCOT, hoping for terrace seating
7/28 Character breakfast at Cape May Cafe in BCV
7/30 Dinner at Coral Reef in EPCOT

I think I may do my first trip report to detail this trip since we are taking such a large group and we are trying Grand Gathering events for the first time.

After after waiting for 2 hours and then being disconnected and having to call back and wait another hour ~ I finally have these ADR's for dinner:

    August 21-30
    Hoop-Dee-Doo - dinner
    Whispering Canyon - dinner
    Crystal Palace - dinner
    1900 Park Fare - dinner
    Hollywood & Vine/Fantasmic Show - dinner
    Chef Mickey's - dinner
    Cinderella's Castle - dinner

I was hoping to get Prime Time but wasn't able to. Substituted Crystal Palace instead.
