Is it possible to rent a sat nav with a car rental - and if I did, do US sat navs work the same as UK ones if anyone know this? If I thought we could navigate on a trip I could probably get over driving on the wrong side of the road so am interested.

I believe that they do, all you need to do is is enter your location and it should give you directions to there.

Most, if not all rental car agencies do have Navigation systems for an additional fee. I would verify with whatever agency you plan to use. Also make sure that is an option requested when you reserve your car.

scoobydooby, the only way I'd tell you that you were driving on the wrong side of the road was if you drove on the English side while you were here! I've done some travelling in countries that do it "wrong", and while I have no problem driving I really have a problem crossing the street on foot - I can't decide which way to watch for traffic!!!

My wife and I have been using the Hertz Neverlost GPS system for several years now on our annual trips to Florida. We used it extensively at World Disney World this past December, with only a couple wrong turns along the way, from which we were able to recover without losing too much time. You might want to look for my December 2008 trip report, since I comment quite a bit about the system, which we nicknamed "Sarah." The Neverlost system is preprogrammed with all of the WDW parks and resorts in the "local attractions" menu option.
BTW, we drive on the "wrong" side of the road down here in the U.S. Virgin Islands also. In fact, I believe we're the only U.S. state or territory where they drive on the left.

I'm curious, do you drive British cars, or American cars. That is, is the steering wheel on the left (port) side as in the U.S. states or the right (Starboard) side as in Britian? I was in Turks and Caicos many moons ago, and fortunately wasn't driving, but they had cars built for the U.S. market, but drove on the British side of the road!

We drive American style cars also. That means you often see cars with the right front dinged. I had a drunk driver crush the right front of my Ford Escort with a Jeep the night before Thanksgiving a few years ago. I later had the pleasure of seeing him plead guilty in court and get some jail time -- this wasn't his first drunk driving offense.
