where to buy passes for Disneyland?

I was originally going to print at home from my computer, now I am thinking I should buy them at the Disney Store because they are the actual passes. They are the same price either way. What should I do? I'm looking for the fastest way into the park.

If you are looking for the fastest way into the park then go with the place that will give you actual passes especially if you are paying the same price. Even if the wait time is only a few minutes....that a few minutes of precious park time! Have fun!!

The print-at-home I did last year was an actual pass that I walked up to the front gate with and they switched it out there for a smaller pass that could be used the rest of the trip and in fastpass machines. No double-line action.

Thank you both. Looks like I'll buy them at the Disney store. I might have to change them over anyway, they are hard plastic like a credit card. Thanks again.

I haven't had one in a long time, but I believe the passes you buy from the Disney Store or any other media you buy that is hard plastic doesn't have to be swapped out. You use that ticket just like you would the paper ones, since the APs are plastic also the FP machines accept them.

You take EITHER the Print at Home (e-Ticket) voucher or the Ticket Gift Cards that you get at Disney Stores and supermarkets directly to the turnstiles, where they are scanned. If you opt for buying online and the e-Ticket option, within a second or two of having the printout scanned, an "actual" ticket is handed to you at the turnstile.

IMHO, I would go with Print at Home, as you can do that at your convenience at home, and don't have to drive the Disney Store, or wait in line for a cashier to process the transaction. (If you do buy at the Disney Store, make sure and bring your paid receipt with you to the parks, in case there is an issue with scanning them at the turnstiles.)

We took a friend a couple weeks ago. He did the print at home. It was easy, and we just went right to the gates. It was just as fast as if he had a regular pass. The scan the barcode, and a new ticket pops out. it's that easy.

If your #1 priority is to get the fastest way into the park, take the advice that everyone's given you. However, you may want to be aware of another option that has its benefits . . . . and that's buying from getawaytoday.com.

Advantages: (1) Depending on how many days you buy, you might get extra Magic Mornings! (2) You save a little $.

Disadvantage: (1) While at home, you have to buy through the getawaytoday website, read everything carefully, print, and bring to the park. (2) You have to stand in two lines and yes, it is absolute torture! It took us 45 mins to process our tickets before we could go to the "real" line.

Having said all that . . . . I cannot stress how Magic Morning is truly M-A-G-I-C! And it's possible to get extra MMs through getawaytoday. My boyfriend and I spent our MM in Fantasyland and I kid you not -- we virtually had the place all to ourselves! We rode about 12 rides in that one magical hour -- you know how those rides are very close to one another and the ride tim is very short! There was no waiting on any of the rides. To go on 12 rides like that would have taken us one whole day. Definitely, the joy of that hour more than took away the pain and torture of waiting in those two lines just to get into the park.

Our next trip is going to be a gift for my DS. I would like to give him the real ticket, instead of a piece of paper, and I am not in a hurry. Do I have the option of having them send the real tickets instead of the e-ticket if I order on the DLR website? (The last time we went we all had a different character on our tickets...Mom was Snow White, Dad was Goofy etc. Kids thought it was great!)

The ones we get at the Disney Store in Canada are the actual cardboard tickets with each one having a character printed on the front. There is no swapping out, just get in line at the turnstiles and away you go! Always a good idea to keep your receipt with you no matter where you got them from...you just never know.

    So Excited!

    FYI - I don't think getawaytoday.com's tickets have 2 magic morning entries in 2009.

Oh no . . . you are correct, unfortunately! I went in very early Jan this year and got 2 MM for a 3-day ticket. However, I just looked on the getawaytoday website and it's down to 1 MM. I wonder why they changed their minds? I hope they go back to the 2 MM!

I like doing the print-at-home option the best: I can easily use my disney visa rewards; I can print multiple copies, keep one in a safe place - give one to the ticket user. Last time I did this, it was a really cute pic of Sully from Monsters Inc. Can do it the day before we leave, waiting til the last minute in case we have to cancel for some reason.

If I'm not at work, then I'm probably making cards for Operation Write Home -- helping heroes stay connected with family & friends.

I agree with printing at home and finalizing it right before we leave. No one's more commited than I am to going to DL -- BUT -- things could come up and we might have to cancel -- so I wait until almost the last moment. You might want to do it a few days before your actual departure date, though, in case something goes wrong and you have to call someone to sort things out.
