National Geographic's Show on Air Force 1 and Marine 1
Did you see the shows?
I was so impressed with the care, skill, and organization it takes to ferry the president around. I know not everyone will agree, but why did Pres. Bush put everyone in danger to have Thanksgiving in Baghdad in 2003? To me, it seemed pointlessly foolhardy.
What did you think about the two shows, the aircraft, and the Airforce personnel and Marines who make it all work so beautifully?

I'm looking forward to seeing the Show about Airforce One (thank you, HD DVR)
I forgot to tape Marine One, though. maybe another showing is forthcoming?

I watched the show on Air Force One, and it is amazing how much planning and care goes into it. I didn't realize there were so many people working on just making sure the president gets to where he needs to go safely. What also impressed me was the number of anti-terror technology built into the plane (and there's a lot more that were not mentioned as they're classified).
I wonder how much it all costs. Although getting the president to his destination safely should be priority number one, no matter what your political agendas are.

We also watched them. If you know me then you know what I thought about Bush, but the Thanksgiving incident was to me a very high point in an otherwise undistinguished and embarrassing Presidency. Getting there in secret, surprising the assembled troops and eating Thanksgiving dinner with them -- the list of classy acts in the last eight years is very short but that's definitely one of them.
As far as putting the crew in danger, well, leaving the political aspects out, they're all military and their job is to go where the boss tells them to go.
newhdplayer, according to my guide the Marine One show will re-air at 6:00 and 9:00 PM on Wednesday. Probably best to verify that with your own program guide.

What station are these on? I know a couple of my nephews would REALLY enjoy it (and their favorite Aunt!)

It's good to get a different perspective on this. Thanks, Andrew.

I believe my Tivo recorded it on the HistoryHD channel. I'm in the Bay Area.

I saw heavy ads for it on the National Geographic channel while in a hotel room over the weekend so I just assumed it was on that (which we don't get at home) so didn't keep it in mind. If it is on History then I'll have to remember to check it out.
I want to see where the escape pod is.

I saw this show on History Channel several days ago. I also found it very interesting. It was followed by a show about the history of the White House. It too was very good.
One of the Air Force One crew and I share a last name. (I don't think we're related.) Our email addresses are very similar and, since the show aired recently, I keep getting messages intended for him. It's nice to know his college professors are proud of him, but I keep having to reply and inform them they got the wrong guy. Apparently, he was working on his Masters awhile back because I kept getting messages about his thesis assignment as well.

I don't think the escape pod was replaced after Donald Pleasance used it.

They may reinstall it for Obama. The concern was that no matter where George Bush landed in the escape pod, he would have been better off staying on the plane.

Ah, I forgot about that one. I was referring to a different movie.

Air Force. Two words. Can't believe I wrote it as one word.
Blame Canada, I guess.

I recorded the Air Force one and hope to watch it this weekend.
Last night I watched a show on National Geographic about the "reign of Saddam" WOW was it disturbing and graphic.

True HEARTed!
The Air Force one show replayed today on the National Geographic channel and I believe it replays Sunday morning at 10 am and then on Feb 4th - not sure on that time.
It was very interesting and moving to watch. imo

Finally watched it as well.
I need to fly on that plane.
The logistics, precision, maintenance and personnel impressed me to no end.

I found it very fascinating, it was on the National Geographic channel where I live.
Among my favorite parts were:
Learning all the facts about the actual plane (there are actually 2 planes, the engine is kept up so well, it isn't called "Air Force One" until the President is on it, etc.)
Bush going to celebrate with the troops on Thanksgiving ( I am not a Bush fan at all but I was touched by this)
Bush himself discussing things.
When the pilot who flew the plane for Bush sort of passed the baton over to the new pilot for Obama.
Obama ordering a burger for dinner.

Did you catch the part where he said; "I still want the fries".
That cracked us up.
