Riding the Mark Twain at night
Just came back from a Halloween trip. I know this was mentioned in the weekly update, but I must reemphasize it. If you are going to DL soon, definitely ride the Mark Twain riverboat at night. I have been going to DL twice to three times a year for 3 years now and have never had an opportunity to do this. It was just lovely. My kids and I got on the top deck. The music as gorgeous and the river was just beautiful. I seemed to notice more of the animated characters on the river banks. I never really noticed the little Native American boy with his dog before. It was just very relaxing and it felt like a totally different ride to me. Don't miss it!

I've never riden the Mark Twain at night before, but I've ridden the Columbia. Infact, it's the only time I've ridden the Columbia in my entire life. But it was peaceful and quiet. It was really cold though. I've never noticed the little boy. I'll have to look next time. I really like going on the Mark Twain. My only problem with it is that there aren't enough places to sit. I don't like to ride it when I have to stand the whole time. It is a relaxing ride/attraction but standing on sore feet is not relaxing.

I agree there are not a lot of seats. Make a bee line to top floor and there are two small benches on opposite sides of the deck. These go fast however.

Do it now before Fantasmic reopens. I love the Mark Twain at night, and it has been a treat to have it available lately.

Mark Twain at Night
We too just got back Monday evening from our Fall Trip to Disneyland. We rode the Mark Twain one evening. It was totally magical. We could see the people on the riverbank better than in the daytime. Loved it!!

I was in DL on Saturday night and say folks on the upperdeck of the Mark Twain watching fireworks. I thought that was a pretty nifty viewing spot. I didn't occur to me that it was actually running at night. I wish I would have taken advantage.

What time would you get on to watch the fireworks?

What's nice is you don't have to get off. You can ride it all day if you want. At least I think they let you do that.

Actually, you do have to get off each time around. They wait til everyone is off before they board the new passengers.
My son proposed to his wife on the Mark Twain last Christmas Eve. It was really beautiful right at sunset. They came out of the wheelhouse right as we docked, and the time we spent ohh and ahhing, our guide had to remind us they were waiting on us to disembark before the loaded the new passengers.
Planning 3 trips at once...

The only thing I can think of where they don't force you to get off is the train, unless they're taking that particular train off the track. You have to get off the Twain and the Columbia, but you could get right back on.

I am looking forward to riding the Twain at night. This ride reminds me of my first time in the park when I was a little girl.

We actually rode Friday night and was told by the CMs that we could stay on all day if we wanted to. (We wanted to stay on for fireworks.) In fact, they were most emphatic about the ability to stay on, and seemed disappointed when we got off after two rounds!
By the way, they don't sail during the fireworks--they remain docked. But the folks at the top said the view was pretty good (I'm not able to go up stairs very easily so stayed on the first deck--view wasn't as good as I would have hoped but still saw higher fireworks.
If I go down, I'm going down fat and full.

Maybe if its not busy or something. I know we usually go in peak times, and we have always been told to disembark.

Do you like boats? Then yes. Also, it's worth just having the experience. Clearly, you're fond of Disneyland, so why not try out something people seem to love so much?
I didn't want to "waste" time just sitting on a boat, hence, the dinner to go I'm a big fan of eating in odd places... like chicken fingers on Alice in Wonderland or popcorn on the Jungle Cruise (don't worry, I'm very neat & always carry purell, so no crumbs or greasy fingers). You go with your girlfriend, right? Nighttime dinner cruise could be romantic!

We were at DL last week and we really appreciated the Mark Twain running at night, even though we didn't actually ride it. Watching it float by in the evenings, with all of its sparkly white lights really added to the atmosphere of the NOS area.

A couple years ago I rode the Mark Twain one evening after dark. I was bothered by the fact that from the upper deck you can actually see lights outside the park from the parking structure and other places shining through the trees. It took me out of my zone being on a steamship traveling the wild back woods of the Rivers of America. On my recent trip a couple weeks ago I solved the problem by staying on the starboard side and looking toward Tom Sawyer's Island. No intruding lights from the outside world! It was a perfectly pleasant, peaceful and enjoyable experience.
