    ssmerdel - Summer Magical Vacation - May 30-June 8, 2008 - Pop Century Resort

Our 2008 Walt Disney World Family Vacation

Cast of Characters: Me (38), DW (35), DS (11), DD (6), MIL (52), Niece (5)
Trip Date: Friday, May 30 – Sunday, June 8 (10 days, 9 nights)
Method of Travel: AirTran Airlines and DME
    Resort Stay: Pop Century Resort
    Accommodations: Preferred Room – 60’s Building (Rm 4430 & 4431) – 4th Floor close to Elevators
Package:Magic Your Way plus Dining (Basic Dining Plan = 1 Counter Meal, 1 Table Meal, 1 Snack per person per night)
Experience: 2nd Trip for all except for niece, this was her 1st visit.

We had such a fantastic vacation. We went for 10 days and just enjoyed ourselves. It was hot each and every day and it had only rained during two evenings. There were a couple of dreams won, but you will have to wait until that day to hear about it. I will say this, we did not stay in the Castle, but they were pretty cool none the less. We took a lot of pictures, video and even used PhotoPass. I hope to share these with you as well.

I did a pre-trip report so instead of detailing all the planning, I would like to highlight some of the major dates. The start of the planning was in August of 2007 when the 2008 pricing came out. We booked our trip online and paid the $200 deposit. On November 30th of 2007 we reached our 180 days out and made all of our ADR’s. We were able to get all the days and times we wanted for our trip. That was exciting. In February 2008, we used our tax check to pay for the airfare ($1040 roundtrip for all four of us) and payoff our remaining balance for our trip. Now that our package and airfare was covered, all we had to do was save for our spending money. In March of 2008, DW’s mother (MIL) decided she wanted to go and take one of her granddaughters, our niece, to WDW. DW helped her book everything, just like ours, so we could stay together. We had the reservations linked together in the Disney system, so our rooms would be close together. Under our reservations, we had requested connecting rooms and the 4th floor. Her airfare was a little more than ours as costs were rising because of oil and the economy. I called the Dining Reservations number to add MIL and Niece to our table meal ADR’s. We were able to add them to every meal except Le Cellier. Finally, I had made a countdown calendar for the kids, myself and DW, to countdown the days before we left. It was fun.

And now it is finally time to go. I hope you enjoy our magical family vacation.

    Day 1 – May 30th
Everyone took showers and was in bed asleep at 10pm the night before we left. Not sure how that happened with all the excitement. The alarm went off at 3:45am, but we were already 15 minutes ahead of schedule by waking up on our own at 3:30am. It must have been the magic and excitement that woke us up early (I think the carriage from that commercial on TV was coming down the street and the music was playing in the background). I loaded the van with our luggage and carry-on, and we were out of the house by 4:40am. We called MIL at 3:30am to make sure her and our niece was up and getting ready to go. They only live 2 minutes away, so at 4:30am we arrived at her house and at 4:45am we were on our way to the airport. I dropped everyone off curb side and went to park in long term parking. I took the shuttle back to the terminal to meet everyone and check our luggage. The airport was already busy as this was the first day of summer vacation for the schools in Central Indiana. I think everybody was leaving for vacation. I had checked in and printed our boarding passes the day before, but we still had to stand in line to check luggage. With luggage checked, and the 25 minute wait to get through TSA Security, we were safely at our gate by 6am. It was time for coffee, for DW and MIL, and breakfast before our flight.
    • I had a diet coke and a Subway Sausage, Egg and Cheese Sandwich.
    • DW had decaf coffee and a Key Lime Muffin. DW said the decaf coffee was bad.
    • DS had a fruit cup, and shared my sandwich along with apple juice
    • DD had a Chocolate Chip Cookie, and some Pringles chips that MIL had given them in a snack bag for the plane ride, along with a bottle of water.
    • MIL regular coffee and a bagel and fruit.
    • Niece – Not sure what she ate.

The flight left on time at 7:05am. The plane seating format was 2-3. DD and I sat in row 24, seats A and C. DW and DS were in 25 A and C and MIL and Niece were in 26 A and C. The flight was smooth and uneventful at only 1 hour and 50 minutes long. We arrived 18 minutes early into Orlando. Our plane was scheduled to arrive at 9:13am, but we were at the gate at 8:55am. We went to DME to check in and were on our bus by 9:30am. Our drivers’ name was Anthony Stephen. After waiting for the bus to fill up, we departed MCO at 9:55am. He announced that he would be making three stops: 1) Pop Century, 2) Coronado Springs, and 3) Animal Kingdom Lodge and in this order. We were so excited to be the first stop. The bus ride was not very long and DW began tearing up as we watched the scenery out the window and the video on the screen, especially when we traveled under the Welcome to WDW arch. We were sitting in the very front, and Anthony slowed down and raised the front blind all the way up so I could get a picture of the arch right before we went under it. Again, we were so excited. I will probably say this over and over again throughout the trip report.

We had finally arrived at Pop Century at 10:40am. We were home, back at WDW. I could already feel the magic as we were getting off the bus. DW headed for the check-in line while I got the stroller and carry-on bags from Anthony. I gave him a $5 tip, then kids and I headed into the main lobby. The lobby was awesome. I pulled out the video camera and started recording the pictures and nostalgia that was encased on the wall. I still could not believe we finally were back at WDW and at our resort. DW and MIL finished checking in and our rooms were not ready. We received our KTTW cards and a card with a number to call to find out when our rooms were ready. We gave our carry-on bags to Luggage Services and then decided to eat since everyone was hungry, especially MIL. Since we were on the dining plan, we decided to go to Everything Pop for lunch. I was very impressed with the food court at this resort. We can only compare it to POR, and we did think it was better. This is what everyone had for lunch, and it was very good:
    • Me: Meatball Sub, Chocolate Cake, and Water
    • DW: Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Side Salad, Breadstick, Grapes and Water
    • DS: Pepperoni Pizza, Chocolate Cake, Water
    • DD: Kids Mac-n-Cheese, Cookie, Jello and Water
    • MIL: Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Side Salad, Breadstick, Fruit and Water
    • Niece: Shared with MIL

After lunch it was time to head to Magic Kingdom. Before we did, we stopped in the gift shop in Everything POP and did some shopping. I wanted a lanyard with a couple pins and a plastic zip lock case to hold my KTTW Card. As we walked out and toward the queue for a MK bus, there was a bus already there loading. As we got closer we noticed the bus was full and there were people standing. We looked back and noticed another bus was pulling in and had MK on it. We let a couple people behind us go ahead and get on the first bus, and we waited for the 2nd bus. It pulled in right after the 1st bus and we were the first to get on. We cheered as this was our first bus ride to a park on our first day and there was no wait.

We pulled into the bus station and our journey began. We were home at the Magic Kingdom. It had been 2 years since our first trip and we were so happy to be walking under the train station then seeing the castle down Main Street in the background. We planned on using PhotoPass, so we had our picture taken with the Castle behind us as our first pictures. They turned out so well. We headed for POC. This ride was closed for the updates in 2006, and we did not get to rider it, so that was the first ride we went on. The wait was only 10 minutes and it was 1pm in the afternoon. DW and I really liked it. The kids liked it, except for the small drop. When we came out, the PhotoPass photographer was doing the pictures that included Captain Hook, so we each did that. We then just wanted to walk around and look at things. We walked by Aloha Aisle and decided to get Dole Whips. DD had chocolate, DW has Pineapple, DS had a Rootbeer Float, and I had a Pineapple Float. Oh man, these were so good. I think I could live off these for the rest of my life. It was so refreshing.

DS wanted to ride Stitch, so we headed for Tomorrowland. We stopped by the Rose Garden for another PhotoPass opportunity and this time the kids where able to have Tinkerbell posed in their hands. The pictures were so cute. After this, we made it Stitch. This was his favorite in 2006, so we rode it. DD started crying when all the lights went out. She did not like, and after said she was not riding it ever again. Then we rode the Blue Line, aka TTA. DD wanted to ride this over and over again. It was around 3pm and the kids were starting to get tired and grouchy from getting up so early to catch our flight. I called the number we were given to see if our room as well as MIL’s room was ready. Much to our surprise our rooms were ready, so I wrote the numbers down, and we headed back to our resort. Again, waiting for the bus at MK was not very long. It was maybe 5-10 minutes. When we arrived and walked into our rooms, our luggage was there as well as our carry-on we left with Luggage Services. I thought I would have to call and have them bring those to us. How nice. I took the time to write in my journal while DW did some unpacking. The kids helped unpack, when asked, and played. We were very close to the Hippy Dippy Pool, so we decided to go swimming for a little while. The kids love swimming. We flipped through the channels on the TV and loved watching the Pop Century Channel and the channel that talked about all the parks. I have to admit, when people were talking about Stacey, I was not aware of who she was. Now I know. She was ok to listen to for a while, but they seriously need to update that channel or add more hosts.

After swimming, we went back to our rooms to change, then went to Everything Pop for dinner. We purchased our refillable mugs and got water bottles with our dining plan meals. Here is what everyone had:
    • DD had Nachos (Chips and cheese only) and chocolate cake (the chocolate cake was her favorite the whole time).
    • DS had a Dbl Cheeseburger w/cheese fries and had the carrot cake.
    • DW had the Philly Cheese Steak Wrap w/cheese fries and shared dessert with DD (Choc cake).
    • I had the Dbl Cheeseburger w/cheese fries and the Tie-Dyed Cheesecake. (The cheesecake was ok.) I had a couple bites of DS’s carrot cake and it was by far my favorite.

We were not disappointed with dinner at Everything Pop. It was good.

After dinner, we felt a little refreshed, so we headed for DTD. We wanted to do some shopping and look around. We walked through the Christmas Shop and then the Kitchen Shop. After browsing in these stores, it was time for Once Upon a Toy Store. DS was looking forward to this, as he knew he was going to build a lightsaber. I had to help him, it was a little confusing at first, but we got the hang of it, and he built a cool lightsaber. DD likes to write and draw, so she wanted a couple princess notebooks and markers. She did not want to build a My Little Pony. After this store we headed to the World of Disney. DW wanted to look for a couple shirts, for her, and some Disney hair clips. Our last stop was Goofy Candy Company. We decided to use snack credits to make some snacks. This was cool. DS picked marshmallows covered in milk chocolate, nothing else. DD selected the large chocolate oreo cookie dipped in milk chocolate and covered in crushed M&Ms and sprinkles. DW selected 3 pretzel sticks dipped in, milk and dark chocolate. One had nuts and the other had white and dark chocolate chips. They looked really good. Finally, I had a chocolate oreo cookie dipped in milk chocolate, covered with peanuts and crushed Reese cup and then drizzled in more milk chocolate. I was in heaven. Oh my is all I can say. What a wonderful day! We headed for our bus stop and waited about 15 minutes for the bus. We arrived back at our resort and sat in Everything Pop, ate our snacks and refilled our drinks twice. What a perfect end to our first day. The kids did get a little grouchy this evening, but all-in-all, we had a fantastic day.

Here are some things I wanted to mention:
    • MIL and niece did not stay with us the entire time. We mainly met for our table meals and we did do some things together.
    • The busses were not bad the whole trip. There was only one bad day for the busses and that would be our 3rd day there, which was on a Sunday. It seemed that we were waiting forever for a bus.
    • The weather was hot. Our first day there is was 93 and I think it was 93-95 everyday. We moved a little slower and did not see as much as we thought we would.

Only 9 days left on the vacation. Tomorrow we are going to Epcot, since we did not get much time in this park during our first trip in June 2006. So far, no dreams won yet. Stay tuned…..

You better not say anything bad about my Stacey! She grows on you; I didn't like her at first either, but after seeing the countdown show for a couple of dozen times, she gets into your brain. I need some Stacey time! It'll have to wait until next summer, although I visit her from time to time on Google. Great trip report so far!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Hopefully I can get day two one night this week. I had a Honey-do list to work on this weekend.

When my son and I were riding the Lazy River at Typhoon Lagoon, and every time he seen the Lazy River, he kept saying, "Look at all the lazy people in the lazy river." In the the same accent Stacy uses when she does it on the countdown. It was very funny. Stacy does grow on you. I will give you that. We have started our planning for our vacation next summer. We can already hardly wait and we just got back. Thanks for reading.

You know when you really start to appreciate Stacey? When you get home and start looking for the parks channel and realize "oh that's right, I'm home again. They only have that at WDW . . . "

Great report so far. Can't wait for more!

    Day 2 - May 31

    Day 2 May 31st
Today is the day we are heading to Epcot and our dinner at Le Cellier. We did not get much time here in 2006, so we wanted to tour this park during the start of our trip. I scheduled a wake-up call on our room phone for 6:50am. As I heard it ringing, I reached and hit the speakerphone. You could hear the Pirates of the Caribbean Theme playing. It was so cool. Everyone got ready to leave and we decided to eat at Pop for breakfast. This is what we had:
    • Me/DD We shared the chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and sausage.
    • DW/DS Shared a breakfast platter that included: Eggs, bacon, Sausage and a biscuit.)
    • We used our refillable mugs for drinks, and since we were on the dining plan, got waters with our meals to take to Epcot with us.

There was no wait for a bus. As soon as we walked out to the queue, a bus was pulling in. So far, I must say the bus service has been excellent. We were excited to be on our way to Epcot. We arrived just as the park opened and got PhotoPass pictures taken with Spaceship Earth and Topiaries behind us. The pictures are so cute. By the way, not to get sidetracked, we finished with our PhotoPass Pictures and went from about 230 to 650. We ordered the CD this past weekend so we hope to get it soon. I will share as soon as I do. After the pictures were taken, DW, DS, DD, MIL, and Niece went to get FP for Test Track. I used my own ticket and got a FP for Soarin. No one wanted to ride this with me. They were too scared. I will say that later in the trip DS does go back with me and ride it. You will have to wait for that day, before I tell you what he thought.

After gathering the FP, we met in front of The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and then rode it. This was a very cute ride and we really enjoyed it. There was no wait for it at all. When we got off the ride, we got in line for Turtle Talk with Crush. This was a blast. We were first in line and DS, DD, and Niece sat in the front down on the floor. Crush picked our DD out first and asked her, her name. She refused to talk to him and all of a sudden was shy. DW said, talk to him Allison. At that point, Crush hears mom say her name and tries to get her to talk, but she clams up. No pun intended. I really recommend this show it was fun.

After we left Crush, it was time to ride Test Track using our FP. MIL did not want to ride and Niece was too small, so we had five FP to use. They went to the Epcot Character Spot so Niece could meet and get autographs of the characters there and we headed toward Test Track. We went through the line with no wait, and DS and DD started getting scared. They are not big thrill ride kids yet, and we kept telling them it was like riding in a car. Finally it was our turn to ride. We had a blast. The kids liked it so much they kept asking to ride it again all day long. We told them if we had time, we would come back. After the ride, we headed back toward the Land so I could ride Soarin. DW, DS, and DD met up with MIL and Niece and they went to see the Circle of Life and Living with the Land. We gave the extra FP for Test Track to someone in front of the ride as we were leaving.

The FP line went quickly and I was in line to ride course 1. I was right behind a large family from Georgia at the front of the line, who I started talking with. In no time, we were given the line to step into. Again, being afraid if heights, I got the very first row that goes up to the top and on the end. It was not bad at all. I am not going to spoil the ride for anyone who has not rode this yet, but let me say this is my favorite ride in WDW hands down. The effects are great. The feeling is wonderful. I am so glad I went to ride this. I never once thought about being afraid of heights. All day I kept trying to get everyone to go back and ride with me.

It was getting close to lunch time and we had settled on Beaches and Cream for lunch when we made our plans. When we got there, it was over an hour wait. They are considered a Table Service, but do not take ADRs. We opted not to eat and decided to share a lunch from the Beach Club Marketplace and then snack in World Showcase. We shared a turkey with mozzarella cheese sandwich, chips and chocolate cake. We carry our refillable mugs with us, so we got a bottle of water with the meal and used our mugs as well. The sandwich was very good. The chocolate cake has become a staple for us, especially DD.

After eating, we headed back to Epcot. This time our plans were to walk around World Showcase and sample some of the pastries from the different countries. This was the reason we shared a meal for lunch, plus Le Cellier was where we were going for dinner and we wanted to take our appetite with us. First, we stopped in France. We shared an apple tart, crme puff and big chocolate chip cookie. Our next stop was Japan, but not for food. DS is into Pokemon, and he wanted to use some of his money to buy some figures. We looked around while DS picked out his Pokemon. Our next stop was in Norway. The sweet pretzel with almonds was calling our name. These were treats we seen on the Travel Channel shows and we just had to try them. They were great. Today was another 90 + degree day, so we decided to go into the Mexico Pavilion to cool off. We rode the Grand Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, twice. It was a very cute ride and the kids enjoyed it a lot, especially trying to find Donald. We walked around the Mexican Pavilion and took pictures of the kids with Sombreros on and bought a couple of souvenirs for the kids.

We headed back toward Future World and Innoventions West. We wanted to try all the different sodas from around the world. Most of them tasted really good except for one. It was the nastiest tasting drink I had ever had. There are no medicines that taste worse than this did. I am not going to give the name of the drink away, because you should try it. I had heard about it on the boards, so I was prepared when DW came up to me and said, try this. I took one sip and..YUCK! After this we decided it was time to ride Spaceship Earth. We enjoyed it in 2006 and we were excited about the updates. This ride never disappoints. After we got off the ride, I let DS play with some of the games/exhibits. There was a nice padded bench with nice cold air blowing, and I sat there and rested. I thought of Dave from the Happiest Celebration on Earth DVD and took some time to relax. While DS played, DW and DD went to Mouse Gears to shop with MIL and Niece. DD wanted a Baby Minnie Mouse Stuffed Animal, so DW went to get her one. We met at the Electric Umbrella for a snack of French Fries.

MIL and Niece decided they wanted ice cream. At this point MIL and Niece went off on their own because they were not eating dinner with us at Le Cellier and they wanted to go do some things on their own. We headed toward Imagination and rode Figment. The kids really enjoyed Figment. He was so funny and cool. After Figment, we watched Honey I Shrunk the Audience. This was a cute show. DS thought it was ok. DD hated it. There was nothing about it she liked. She even took off the glasses and did not watch the screen. This was a small break down, but nothing major.

It was getting close to our ADR, so we headed over to Canada to Le Cellier. Our ADR was for 7:00pm and I checked in at 6:40pm. They said it would be about 20 minutes. While we began waiting, I noticed off in the distance black smoke rising. It was thick and you could smell it. Now, I will say it was far away, but very noticeable. I asked the Host at the check-in stand if he knew where it was coming from and he said a Golf Course in Kissimmee was on fire. At 6:45, five minutes after check-in they called our name. That was the quickest 20 minutes I can remember. I was joking with the young lady who was seating us. Kaytelyn from Ottawa was our server. She was excellent. She talked with us and asked us where we were from. She told us where she was from and about the program that allows her to work at Disney. It was nice to chat with her. All the while she kept up on drinks and made sure we were ok. The food was awesome. This is now my favorite sit down, non-buffet, restaurant. Here is what we had:
    • DW ordered a tossed salad as an appetizer and DD had the Cheese soup. Plus we had the Pretzel Bread. I had read on the boards, about the Pretzel Bread, so I asked Kaytelyn if she would only bring that instead of the different kinds of bread. She easily did that for us. We all tried the soup, since DD did not like it, and it was ok. The Pretzel bread was very good.
    • DD had the Hot Dog with Fries. Nothing to write home about. It was a hot dog.
    • DS is 11, so he gets to order off the adult menu. He was excited. He had the NY Strip with the Roasted Potatoes. He did not care for the potatoes but he liked the steak.
    • DW had the Mushroom Filet Mignon. She thought it was exquisite.
    • I had the NY Strip as well, but chose the cream cheese mashed potatoes. This was very good. DS shared my mashed potatoes.
    • For dessert we all shared the Campfire Smore, Chocolate Moose, and Mandarin Orange Sorbet. DD had a build your own Sundae. The desserts were very good. The chocolate moose came out looking like a moose head. It was so cool.

All-in-all dinner was a hit and we decided this was a place we would definitely want to eat again. Since we were on the dining plan, the meal was covered except for the toss salad appetizer and the tip. We had them charge the tip to the room card, as this was the easiest thing to do. They brought two receipts back for signature. One for the dining plan and one for the room charge. It was very simple to understand. The bottom of the receipt gave a recommended amount to tip of 18% and 20%, all I had to do was fill in the tip line. We gave Kaytelyn a 20% tip. Well worth it.

MIL and Niece had saved a great spot in front of Mexico with a clear view of the lagoon to see Illuminations Reflections of Earth. We only waited about 30 minutes before the show. It was good, but not as exciting as we were expecting. After this, it was time to head back to the resort. The queue line for Pop was long, really long. However we only waited about 15 minutes. There was one bus loading, and they cut the line off with the family right in front of us. Before that bus even left, another bus pulled up, and we were loaded onto it. Again the bus service did not disappoint. Once we got back, I refilled all the mugs with everyones choice of drink and we headed for bed. We had a fun and exciting day in Epcot.

We only have 8 days left on our vacation. Tomorrow we are going to Disneys Animal Kingdom. This is another park we did not get much time in during our first trip in June 2006. Again, no dreams have been won yet, maybe tomorrow. Also there have been no real break downs from DD, who is 6. Will tomorrow be the day? And finally, will I convince anyone to ride Everest with me, or will I go it alone? Stay tuned.

Here are some additional things I wanted to mention:
    • During dinner at Le Cellier, DD stated that the salt from Canada is bigger. When we asked her why she thinks that, she reasoned this with the fact the salt on the pretzel bread was huge. We laughed so hard. She has had pretzels before, so we are not sure where this came from. But it was so funny. She also said she wanted to live in Canada. Not sure why. Before this meal, she wanted to live in Orlando, FL to be close to WDW.
    • MIL is starting to get a little crazy. We split up from them a lot more going forward. She was even driving her own daughter, my wife, nuts. She starting taking Niece all around, and for the remaining days she had several incidents with Niece, her grand daughter. She was trying to go commando in all the parks with a 5 year old, and not taking any breaks. I felt bad for niece. We tried to tell her to slow down, but she paid a lot of money and she was getting what she paid for.
    • If you have noticed the time sort of slips away from my trip report. Since I am on vacation, the only time that really matters is our ADRs. Outside of that, I am on cruise control.
    • Finally, the lines were never really long except for the E-Ticket items. And most of them were not over an hour. I had a cast member tell the park was not very crowded this day.

Yippee, more trip report. A lot of fun, but sadly I won't be able to read the next couple of days, as I'll be off on my own little trip to Disneyland. I'll look forward to reading the rest of your vacation when I get back.

It had information about the resort and things like that. We did not watch it much. We mainly watched the WDW Channel with all the park information and the channel with Stacy.

I am going to switch to photobucket, so stay tuned for the pictures.

    Day 3 June 1st
We are going to Animal Kingdom today. It will be an early start since we have an 8am breakfast ADR at Donalds Safari Breakfast at Tusker House Restaurant. We were up at 6am, got ready, and headed for the bus stop at 7am. Well, we waited and waited for a bus. There were 2 MK busses, 4 Epcot busses, and 2 empty DHS busses that came and went. I approached the last MK bus driver at pulled up and asked he if could make a call and inquire when an AK bus would be coming along. There were at least 20 people waiting to go to AK. He said, after talking to dispatch, that a bus was enroute and should be there in 2-3 minutes. I thanked him and walked back over and told all who was waiting. About 10 minutes later, at 7:35 our bus arrived. We were concerned that we had only 25 minutes before our ADR, but the ride was uneventful and we arrived right at 8am in front of the restaurant.

Once checked in, we had to wait roughly 5 minutes before our name was called and we were seated. We declined the picture they take before you go in, because we had no intention in buying it. They were not too happy when we declined. Luis was our waiter. He was awesome, very loud and funny. As he was asking who wanted Jungle Juice, I asked for a large glass of milk. Luis asked if I wanted Zebra or Cow milk. I fell for this hook line and sinker and said what the heck bring me zebra milk. Well he brought me a glass of milk, and I took a drink. He then asked how it was and I said tastes like regular cow milk. He started laughing as did DW. Needless to say, I have not lived this down yet. It was a joke that I apparently did not catch on until right then. I am so gullible sometimes. The food was good and the Jungle Juice was great. The kids enjoyed the characters: Donald, Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy. This was an enjoyable breakfast.

After breakfast we decided that we wanted to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris first. DS and I did not get to ride this in 2006, so it was a must. The park had just opened and people were being escorted behind CMs to the rides. We joined in and were able to get right on the ride. Most of the animals were up and moving and DW and I got some decent video and pictures. As soon as the ride was over, I wanted to get some video of the Gorillas. DW went to get FPs for Everest. I walked through the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail with the video camera in hand waiting to get some good animal video. The meerkats were out, and I was able to record one that was only 6 feet away standing on his hind legs. How cool. I arrived at the Gorilla Sanctuary and sure enough they were up and eating. I got some cool video and was very excited. I met up with DW, DS, DD, MIL and Niece over by Everest.

DW was able to get 5 FPs for Everest. She did not have my KTTW card so she could not get a sixth one. We had about an hour to go before we could use the FP, so we decided to head over to Dinoland USA. The kids wanted to ride Triceratops Spin and then we walked over toward Primeval Whirl to watch it. Not one of the kids wanted to ride it, so we decided to skip it. I am not good with spinning rides, so I was glad the kids did not want to go. We were off to Dinosaur next. We talked DD and Niece in riding this which was not a good idea. This set the tone for the rest of that day. It was a good ride, just a little jerky. Ok, ok.a lot jerky. But it was fun. Now, I mentioned in the previous trip report that there had not been any breakdown by DD yet. Well, just let me say, she should have not ridden this. She was screaming and crying through the whole thing. She was terrified. DW and I felt so bad. We did not expect that at all. After the ride, DD said she was never riding that ride againEVER. She hopped into the stroller and nothing was the same again today.

It was now close to the time for our FP for Everest. MIL was going to watch the kids and let them play at the Boneyard while DW and I went to ride. Well, just as it was time to go, DW chickens out. She completely backs out on me and hands me all five FPs and says I am on my own. I beg and plead for her to go. She says no. So, I head off by myself and I ride it two times, since I liked it so much. After the second time, I was a little nauseated so I decided to give two of them away to a couple who was getting ready to get FPs and kept one as a souvenir. They thanked me and I was off to meet the family. I also purchased a picture of me riding the ride, so I would have evidence that I rode it.

I headed toward Discovery Island to Its Tough to be a Bug. DW wife had left me a voicemail on my cell that this is where they were while I was riding Everest, the second time, so I was waiting where the exit was. Well, the breakdown for DD and Niece was in full swing. DD did not like ITTBAB and made DW bring her out while the show was still going. Im sure she was still having issues from Dinosaur. They came out and DW told me about the breakdown and how DD wanted to leave AK. She was not happy. DW left and decided to head back to Pop Century to swim and I waited for DS, MIL, and Niece to come out of ITTBAB. DS and I watch this show again, so I could see it. It was very cute. It is a must see for all. DS and I went to PetriFries for some McDonalds fries and a Diet Coke for a snack since it was not quite lunch time. MIL and Niece stayed with us as well.

Again the busses were running slow. DW and DD waited almost 30 minutes for a bus to get them when they left. After DS and I ate our fries, DS decided he would rather go back and swim instead of staying at AK and riding more rides, so he and I headed back to the resort. DW and DD were swimming when we got back. I went to the room to get our mugs and we ate lunch at Everything POP. This is what we had:

    • DD Chicken Nuggets, Fries, grapes and chocolate milk.
    • DS Nachos Supreme, Tie Dyed Cheescake
    • DW Greek Salad, Chocolate Cake
    • Me Nachos (Chips and Cheese Only) as a snack credit.

Again we got water bottles as our drinks and used our refillable mugs for icees. The icees were good. That is one of the things we liked about this food court. After lunch DW and DD went back to the room, so DD could take a well needed nap. She was still pretty grouchy after swimming and eating. DS and I swam for a while and then went back to the room to rest before we had to leave for our 7:45pm Dinner ressie at Boma. This is a meal that DW was looking forward to.

We left Pop at 5pm, so we could explore AKL before our ADR. Today was just a bad day for busses. We waited 30 minutes for an AK bus to come. We thought it would be easier to ride to AK then hop on an AKL Bus for a short ride. We arrived and decided to walk around the lobby and pool areas. The hotel is very beautiful. While we were by the pool, we got to see some giraffes in the distance in the Savannah, eating. The kids really enjoyed that. DW wanted to collect refrigerator magnets during this trip from all the parks and resorts we visited, so me made our way to the resorts marketplace to do some shopping. The kids had fun playing with the African drums by the entrance, especially DS. It was 7:15pm, so I decided to see if we could check in early for dinner and to my surprise they let me. We waited in the lobby for a few minutes. We decided to call home and talk with our friends who were taking care of the cat and house for us. They talked about the tornados that had gone through the night after we left. They told us a couple apartment buildings on the East Side of Indianapolis had been knocked down. At 7:30 our pager went off, and we headed to the bottom floor, where Boma is located. DW loved this dinner. I on the other hand did not care for it. DW likes all kinds of food and is a little adventurous in trying new things. DS is kind of like her and will try things but DD and myself are not. We are very picky. I will say the desserts and prime rib were very good. All-in-all Boma was ok, but not a favorite. I could see us trying it again.

Dinner went pretty quickly, since we got in early. So we decided to go watch Wishes at MK. We began waiting another 30 minutes for a bus to the MK. There were several people waiting, and finally, I decided to talk to another driver to see if he could find out what is going on. This was the second time today I had to ask about a bus. He contacted dispatch and was told there was a dispatching error and a bus should be here shortly. I thanked him for checking, and about 5 minutes after that, a bus showed up. Tonight was EMH for MK. We watched Wishes first. This is our favorite fireworks show. We were right in front of Tomorrowland Bridge. We watched Tinkerbell fly right over us. After the show, we wanted to ride Haunted Mansion. Everything was ok, until someone walking through the queue behind us decided to make really scary sounds, and it scared DD. I do not think she had fully recovered from Dinosaur earlier in the day. As we went trough the turnstile before the stretching room, DD and Niece broke completely down. A CM helped DW take DD through an exit and DS and I rode. After we got off the ride, DW and DD decided to leave and head back to the resort. DS wanted to stay and ride a few rides. We went over to Indy Speedway, where DS was tall enough to drive his own car. When we got off, he said, Dad, this was cool. We rode this only once and then headed over to Buzz Lightyear, which is another one of his favorite rides. The line was about a 30 minute wait. It seemed to go faster. After this, he was getting tired and was ready to head back to Pop. We got back around 12:15 am.

Tomorrow we are scheduled to be at Blizzard Beach. After the 3 major break-downs, DW and I decided to alter our game plan. What will we do? Where will we go? Stay tuned and find out. Also, a major revelation is discovered by DW and me. Something we will remember for all future trips.

    Some additional comments:
    • Today was a good day minus the break downs from DD. I got to ride Everest twice even though I went alone. I always feel bad going off alone, because I want to be with my family. Since DW makes fun of me and the whole zebra milk thing, I call her a chicken for not riding Everest with me.
    • The temperature had been above 93 degrees every day so far. Everyone was drinking water and staying hydrated. The local media was actually saying it was hotter than the average for this time of year.
    • Even though we are not riding everything we had listed in our daily itinerary, we are having a lot of fun. I say this because the heat does slow you down, and you really need to pay attention to your kids and their movements as well as your own. It is best not to over do it. Have fun, do what you can, and do not regret what you miss. Just save that for another time.
    • MIL and Niece go off on their own, and we only see them at dinner and in the evenings after the day has ended.
