Unhappy DCA Café, I feel bad for CMs

It's too bad to hear about DCA Caf closing. What seemed like a fine place to eat for CMs, went to my school lunchroom, and now nothing. Is this how Disney should it's great employees? No way!

Canned enchaladas, rish dishes, corn dogs!, hamburgers?! This is not how our CMs should be fed.

He also told one cast member that the rest of the employees at that location had quit and that the manager didn't think the DCA Cafe was important enough to keep operating.
If the guests experiencing the magic can get a nice meal, why can't the people that make the magic get a decent meal?!

The DCA Caf wasn't really all that great, IMHO. The food was good, but the prices were pretty high and they charged for soft drink refills! Wiser CMs know that it's all about the Bungalow Grill (the CM dining location in the GCH that Al mentions in his article). Cheap, filling, and greasy beyond belief, the Bungalow Grill is where it's at.

the thing that kills me is the line where he says that the suits thought the employee cafaterias "weren't profitiable enough"

have the accountants gone so far out of whack that they even want to gouge their own employees? since when do company cafaterias have to be very profitable too?
have they forgotten about company perks, making those who work for you happy?

if they can run it and still make a profit, meager though it may be, then I don't see why they had to mess with it. even if they lose a little money its still investing in your employees...

heck, we get free soft drinks and and snacks where I work.. free lunches and dinners too when we're working crazy hours...

they don't make money off that directly.. its called creating good will.
happy well-fed employees are more productive employees.

If you ever eat at the bungalow make sure that Tyrone is behind the counter he make a killer breakfast burrito just tell him what you want in it also if you want something thats not on the menu he will try his best to make it. I have tried the Inn Between didn't like it but the DRC is great as well as the bungalow.

Can I assume that now that the cafeteria is closed they're at least letting DCA cms use the GCH one?

I doubt it. Bungalow is really weird about letting people in. We have ticket takers posted literally around the corner at the GCH gate and they're not allowed to eat there. Thankfully, there's still the Cast Cafe at the Big Orange Building (BOB) over at Disneyland Hotel. That's probably in reach for some DCA CMs on the west side of the park.

Ah yes, if you want grease, the Bungalow's where it's at. The two cooks that are there at night (at least when I'm there at night) always pick on me about being picky about my food. All in good fun, though.

I've eaten at the Inn Between once, during my second day of orientation, and the experience wasn't stellar but it wasn't too awful either. I think this was one of those experience where I became somewhat weary of Disney chicken.

I thought it was really interesting to read this column about the DCA Cafe, because just a few weeks ago a friend and I went to the DCA backstage entrance where I asked a security guard about the food there. He told me it was really good and that I should go over there sometime when it's open. Granted, this was somewhere in the middle of summer and conditions could've been different then, but just thought it interesting.

    Next stop: Tokyo Disneyland!

Wow, I had no idea that things had gotten that bad over there. I only had the misfortune of eating there twice and both times confermed the general consensus...mediocre food with high prices.

It's not a total loss for a lot of DCA CMs though...I know very few who would spend their brake time to go all the way over there to eat and back. And if they did they would hardly have time to eat after waiting for their food to cook and then pay for it. Most opt for the vending machines...it might not be much better than the DCA Cafe, but atleast it is there when you need it.

I pitty the DCA "Outdoor Ventures" CMs that transfered over from DL ODV the most. Over here (per the foods contract) the Inn Between, Westside Diner, and the Village Haus provide ODV with free drinks. Because the DCA Cafe is operated by an outside company, they have to pay for their drinks. It adds up after a while.

So when did they stop calling it the Disneyland Resort Center (DRC)?

While I'm somewhat surprised about the closure of the DCA Caf, now that I think of it, there were a lot of warning signs. First of all, I never saw the place very busy. At least not in the way the Inn Between and DRC get swamped during peak hours. Secondly, several months ago, the Caf severely cut their operating hours to better conform with the operating hours of DCA. As a result, during the off season, the Caf would be closed by 5 pm rather than the 9 pm closing time prescribed by the CM Reference Guide.

Well, at least one good thing will come out of this. The facility can now easily be bulldozed to allow better access to whatever pops up in Timon.

It's almost like they are trying to wreck DCA one way or another.

It's sad that Dland employees would get more perks then DCA employees.

Anyone know if it is open again?

The artical that Mr. Lutz wrote here.

About halfway down the page, titled "I'm Hungry".

And if you scroll up on that page you'll find a section called "We're Hungry, Pt. 2" in which Al follows up with the information that despite the temporary closure it is not closing permanently and that pressure has been made to improve the situation.

Everyone is really getting worked up over nothing.. The cafe was closed down for part of ONE DAY.. And then it re-opened.

The food is still overpriced, but I eat there almost all the time, because I find it good (or at least better than eating out of the vending machines). And for me, it takes less than 5 mins to get there from anywhere in the park.
