ADRs Back to 180 Days?

Rate this Entry
It's happened... I have a column appearing tomorrow (8/14/09) that discusses the ins and outs of making ADRs. Of course, I reference the 90-day window which, it seems, is about to jump back to 180 days in October.

I know a lot of folks like the longer lead time but I, for one, do not. Six months in advance, park hours are not there or very suspect and I have much less of an idea of where I'll be or what (or where) I want to eat.

Personally, I'd prefer it be same-day reservations (remember those?).

I don't like the 180 day window either. I've seen way too many people making way too many changes after they have their plan all in place. What results can be forgotten reservations that aren't canceled or worse, double bookings (which we all know is fairly easy to do) until the person "can make up my mind which park I'll be at that day". And that usually means waiting for park hours to be finalized.

I actually wouldn't care what the window was if Disney required a credit card guarantee for every reservation made. That would eliminate most of the double bookings and forgotten cancellations. A small fee of $5 per person on the reservation would go a long way to combat the loopholes in the current system.

Thanks for the notice, Steve. I'm sitting here waiting for my September 2nd 90-day window to open for our December trip and now it's been upped to 180? I hope Disney hasn't just screwed us.

    Arnold,
You (and I) should be fine for December. This will begin October 27, presumably for ADRs beginning in April. I would expect the 90-day rule to apply from now through March (into early April actually).
