Guardians Conversion Kicks Off with Movie Premiere

Rate this Entry
Disney California Adventure’s plan to retheme the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror early next year as Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout is supposed to be the first step in gradually converting most of the park's Hollywood Land to a Marvel-centric universe.

What’s supposed to remain untouched are the Hyperion Theatre, Disney Animation building, and Off the Page—creating an awkward blockade between the Guardians tower and what will become the other Marvel attractions.

But at least for the Tower’s reopening the first week of May, the transition will be seamless—Disney plans to hold the world premiere of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" at the Hyperion, soon before the movie is released to theaters May 5, 2017.

Not to be outdone, three weeks later, Disneyland will host the world premiere of the fifth Pirates movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (official theater release date, May 26, 2017).

The four previous Pirates installments all premiered at Disneyland, while the Hyperion was used for "Spy Kids" (2001) and "The Lone Ranger" (2013).

Oh yeah. Guests are so used to closures what's the big deal about putting bleachers out And shutting off access to areas. They keep playing the "hits". Maybe it will include a price increase to offset all of the people used to set up And tear down - or just rehire the laid off imagineers to do the job.

Oh yeah - will DCA's name get recycled to Disney Studios? or "Place your favorite attraction here" - the California backstory is essentially over.
Maybe they'll call it a park within a park.

Wait, Oleg, are you saying you don't see the inherent connection between California and The Little Mermaid, Mike & Sully to the Rescue, and Guardians of the Galaxy???

I don't think they should hold back. Re-theme the entire area as Marvel. It shouldn't be hard. Frozen won't last forever. They still need to add an enclosed lobby for the theater. What about the rumor for a Great Mickey Ride copy coming to Disneyland Resort, perhaps California Adventure, that's going to Orlando's Disney Hollywood Studios Park.

The best bet is probably re-theme Hollywood land as City of Los Angeles and have a mix of Marvel and Hollywood attractions.
