Angry Disneyland Guests Call Out Grumpy

Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering the challenges of staffing Memorial Day Weekend’s 24-hour party, guest complaints against cast members jumped in the days following the event.
As reported at this week’s Mickey’s Roll Call (the daily briefing for management), a lot of the notes were of the “he was less than helpful” and “she was a little grumpy” variety.
“Gee, maybe if TDA didn’t have to bounce us around seven different parking lots and require some of us to work mandatory 10- to 12-hour shifts, we wouldn’t be feeling this way,” one employee grumbled. “We will be having these 24 hour parties EVERY year, plus the marathons, and TDA is seriously considering a 60-hour party for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary. A lot of us are feeling unappreciated and a little burned out.”
TDA is hoping the disgruntlement is temporary. In the Minnie's Roll Calls (the hourly daily briefings), managers are advising cast members to get plenty of rest and find ways to relieve stress, while pushing the in-house health programs.
Employees suggest there are small ways management could buy back a little goodwill, such as reinstituting lost perks like the employee Christmas parties, shorter operating hours on Christmas Eve, or lower food prices at the employee cafeterias—any sincere gesture that shows they’re appreciated. But my guess is for any real, lasting relief, the resort’s got to figure out more effective ways to avoid packing so many demanding customers in too small a space.
