D23 Expo Offers Fun "Juju" Souvenirs

Rate this Entry
Tucked away in a corner in the Disney D23 Expo Journey into Imagineering pavilion was the Adventure Trading Company booth, which offered a chance for people to obtain 10 "jujus."

These juju tokens were about the size of a keychain, and all came with a little leather thong that let you tie it onto a lanyard so you wouldn't lose it.

Most cost $5 with a light quest, but a couple were totally free!

The whole thing was like a very light version of MouseAdventure, running around and looking for clues or decrypting a phrase written in Mara font. You interacted with cast members, many of whom were in character, making the whole experience very entertaining. It was a great way to spend a bit of time at the expo.

At only $5 a piece, I just loved these, and felt compelled to obtain all the pieces. The pieces are quite well-made... if Disneyland decided to offer a new one or two every month, it might entice me to go down there just to do these and build my collection. Affordable, high-quality, fun and interactive, I really loved this idea. Huzzah to whoever came up with this little project. Well done!

From top, clockwise:

  • Pineapple: You could get this pineapple juju at the cashier without having to complete the quest.
  • Parrot: This juju required going to the second floor of the convention center and taking pics of 5 birds (stickers).
  • Elephant: You followed a series of found ransom notes to find clues to the next spot--this was the hardest because clue #1 led me astray.
  • Crocodile tooth: You could get this crocodile tooth without completing the quest.
  • Eye: An easy but fun quest that required decoding a Mara font code (used on Indy ride). What you're seeing is the eye of Mara. Oh wait, no! Don't look in the eye!
  • Treehouse: The third juju you got at the cash register.
  • Snake: A fun quest, you had to reach into a crate and feel for this snake juju. In addition to the "snake," I felt the brush from a broom, some fake (but soft) fur, and maybe some feathers. Oh yeah, and the crate was making noises.
  • Piranha: You could also get this piranha juju without completing the quest first.
  • Mask: This juju required a trip to Trader Sam's. The only quest that required going out of the convention center, but well worth the trip.
  • Skull: You got this skull juju for free after regaling your tale of how you got another juju.
