Do I look Dopey to you...?

Before you answer that question, let me explain. Some of you may remember last year when I started training for my first full marathon. That training program literally crashed at the Tower of Terror 10 Miler when I took a header on a speed bump and totaled both knees. With less than optimal training under my belt, I still completed what I proudly called my 'one and done' full marathon last January in WDW. I was happy checking that long-standing goal off the list and turning my attention back to the half marathon distance.

And then, runDisney did it. They created a new challenge. The Dopey. All I had to do to earn six (count 'em six!) new medals was complete a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon in the space of four days. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Four running events in four days. 48.6 miles in WDW. The lure was too much to ignore. I signed up for the Dopey. And to make it even more of a challenge, I'll also be running the Tinker Bell 5k, 10k, and half marathon the following weekend. Ok make that 71 miles in 11 days. So I'm Dopey and then some!

Obviously real training is in order to complete this craziness. To complete my quest for major bling next January, I will be following Hal Higdon's Dopey Challenge Training program. It's 18 weeks of running, cross-training, and rest that will hopefully help me cross those multiple finish lines healthy, upright, and still smiling.

So, if you are planning on completing the Dopey Challenge yourself or are just curious as to what it takes to complete 4 events in 4 days, join me here on Sunday September 8th when I start week one of the training program. I'll be posting weekly training goals and tips each Sunday evening and will post training updates throughout the week.

So, call me Dopey but I'm in for the challenge. Join me?

Just a reminder that while we are less than a week away from the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge weekend at Disneyland, training for the 2014 Dopey Challenge in WDW starts here Monday September 9th. I've got the training plans (running, flexibility, and strength); the biggest question is how I'll pull it all off given my crazy work schedule. Stop by here on Sunday September 8th to get the first of 18 weekly training plans as well as thoughts on training for the Dopey!
