Being a techno-geek myself, I am not going to slam anyone for tweeting or posting things on Facebook regarding what was going on with the Olympics from the past two weeks. Friends, media outlets, and even other people I follow within different communities were passing along a lot of the great news about how the USA was doing. It really shows how fast news can travel today.

However, at the same time, I will say that the near-real-time nature of posting of Olympics news made it very difficult to watch programming via NBC and not know the outcome. Its like knowing who won the World Series before it was televised. I mean, I know that many people still watched the delayed and edited broadcasts in the evening, but was it the same experience knowing who won?

I was thinking... why cant this be done with Powerball numbers?

Even only four years ago, I remember watching many of the games on TV without a clue as to what was going to happen, even though it was nearly 12 hours old. This time, even checking the news resulted in spoilers. Checking my FB status resulted in spoilers.

My response: I stopped watching. It wasn't worth it. Im sure I was not the only one. And to be honest, I feel like I missed a lot. But that was, after all, my choice to let it slip by. I found out what I needed through everyone elses news.

I applaud those who sacrificed so much to train so hard to represent this country during the Olympics. I hope some of them continue their quest so that they can do it again in four years in Rio.
