With extremely short notice, the company that managed the Clear Pass system at Orlando International Airport and a number of other major U.S. airports has shuttered the program. When you visit their Web site at FlyClear.com, you see the following:

Quote:
Clear Lanes Are No Longer Available.

At 11:00 p.m. PST on June 22, 2009, Clear will cease operations. Clear’s parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc. has been unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditor to continue operations.

Although the Clear pass was designed primarily for business travelers to shorten the long waits at security airport queues, it was often referred to as the "head of the line pass" by people who considered the fee a minor inconvenience for being able to avoid the long lines.

I know at least a couple of people who used the Clear pass even though they barely qualified as a premier frequent flyer (that is, someone who flies more than 30,000 miles in a calendar year) for the convenience of being able to get out of Orlando International with ease.

We had Clear and in fact recently (less than two months ago) renewed at $179 each. I've emailed their support for information on refunds but so far I'm only getting auto-responses. I've also filed chargebacks with my credit card company, so we'll see what happens.

I'm very disappointed, especially considering our upcoming back-to-back WDW trips this fall.

    Thanks, Lani, for the info.
This was something that I was seriously considering subscribing to. The problem was that they did not offer it at ORD. However, they did offer it at MCO and DEN - places that I did go to rather frequently.

The thing is that it was a lot cheaper than "upgrading" tickets to "priority" level in order to go through the security lines faster. And believe me, at ORD, it can be worth it at times.

But I never really saw anyone use the Clear service at any of the airports that offered it.
