Random Disneyland and Walt Disney World tidbits too time-sensitive or inconsequential to cram into a formal article.

  1. Disneyland Slows Down Mark Twain

When the Mark Twain and Columbia return to the Rivers of America July 29, they will be traveling slower in order to maintain their traditional ride duration of 14 to 15 minutes.

Since the reconfigured river is shorter, the ride time could have been cut. But Disney figured the slower speed would make it easier to maintain loading and unloading times, particularly when running both boats, and and to coordinate with the rafts and canoes. “It’s a ballet on the river,” explained one cast ...
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy: Motion Sickness Breakout

Early prediction I've heard from cast members coming out of previews for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout... a lot of guests are going to get sick. Certainly, several preview riders stumbled out feeling nauseous.

The cabins in which the guests sit go through more motion compared to the original Tower of Terror, plus throw in lighting and sound effects.

Some operators suspect the ride will be toned down after a few months of operation, similar to how Indiana ...
  3. Fantasyland Shop Swap

TDA source says the Castle Heraldry Shoppe will become a Christmas store, while the in-castle Enchanted Chamber will become an extension of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Both are expected to open within a week.

Last week, the former Frozen meet & greet reopened as a store highlighting Beauty and the Beast's Belle, both from the classic animated movie and the upcoming live action film.
  4. Get Your Mouse Tales Fix All Weekend

If you’re looking for fun ways to spend Disneyland’s 61st anniversary outside its gates, consider joining me at two special events this weekend.

On Saturday July 16, the Disneyana Fan Club will be holding its annual Collectible Show & Sale at the Wyndham Garden Grove, about a mile south of the park on Harbor Blvd. There will be hundreds of fans, vendors, and of course me signing my latest, "The People v. Disneyland," as well as all my earlier work. It’s open to the public ...
  5. Club 55 Loses Ray VanDeWarker

Ray VanDeWarker, the second to the last “Club 55er” to retire from Disneyland, passed away last night at the age of 79.

He retired in 1996; Ray’s best friend from high school, Bob Penfield, who was hired by Disneyland into Operations at the same time, days before the park opened, became the last of the originals to retire a year later.

Ray was foreman of the Indian War Canoes in 1963, when he and Penfield dreamed up the idea of the first cast member canoe race. Ray ...
