Credit to runDisney - they do listen. Mylar blankets appeared again this morning after the Star Wars Half Marathon to very grateful race participants. Thank you runDisney!

Thank you for posting this! I'm sure I'm not the only one out there completing her first half marathon this weekend and this very thought has gone through my head several times. But you're right, so what? It's still a runDisney race, and guaranteed to be an awesome experience, no matter the order we all finish. Really, the goal is to walk away with a medal, and I'm going to do that! Good luck this weekend everyone!

What matters the most is that you gave the best that you could on the given day. Best wishes to all the DL Half weekend participants.

You will get faster and it will get easier - it's the building process that just takes time and patience. Just keep doing what you are doing and when you critique yourself and/or your training, always start with one positive thing to celebrate instead of jumping into the negative. And set small goals instead of one big one. It may be something silly (gee, I didn't sweat nearly as much today as I did yesterday) or it may be something you are doing to train (got myself out the door today much easier than on Monday) but starting with smaller goals won't feel quite so 'oh dear heavens I signed up for a half marathon' overwhelming.

thanks for this. I am definitely having a case of #3's and maybe 4s. Its my first event - and I went after half because the 10k was full and I really REALLY wanted to do the avengers event. THen I went bananas and registered for Star Wars Rebel Challenge. I know November is a ways off but I am already having doubts during my week and at times makes me whirl with thoughts of "will I get faster? will I get swept?" because my pace right now is right at 16. I know - training each week will get stronger - but right now it seems even the 30 minutes are wrought with signs of struggle. Happy thoughts as they say.

Yes, I'm following the Dumbo Double Dare plan which is geared towards runners / walkers with at least six months experience. I'll ping you offline to talk a bit about inspiration.

i am just reading these for some inspiration and what your experiences are - and I wondered if you were doing the galloway for experienced runners (I am on the beginning runners). I see that the mileage and timing is bumped different than mine. THanks for sharing your thoughts and experience - I need inspiration in a really bad way.

I'm tracking Higdon's schedule (with a few exceptions for other runs). You?

Snow in Vegas. Yuk. We're just cold here. Low of 19 degrees. Gotta get warmer in the mornings before I can hit the roads which really puts a crimp in the rest of the day. <sigh>

Only a few more weeks to Dopey. What were we thinking!

Looks like our schedules are in sync; this week is my 4-9-19 week too! (Mine are run Wed-Thur-Fri.) They are forecasting a chance of - ahem - SNOW for my 19 miles. In Vegas. Sigh... Totally brings back memories of Goofy 2010. Just gotta do it - hope your training goes well this week!

    Lots of races this weekend!

Just a reminder that while we are less than a week away from the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge weekend at Disneyland, training for the 2014 Dopey Challenge in WDW starts here Monday September 9th. I've got the training plans (running, flexibility, and strength); the biggest question is how I'll pull it all off given my crazy work schedule. Stop by here on Sunday September 8th to get the first of 18 weekly training plans as well as thoughts on training for the Dopey!

You mention a tracking app. Do you upload and keep a spreadsheet or online record of your runs?

Would love to meet up with you there! We'll have to plan a time and a place. Any suggestions?

I always drink chocolate milk (2%, usually) after running. I can't usually eat any solid food for several hours, especially if the run is more than five miles, so chocolate milk works as something that feels substantial but is easy on my stomach.

Drum roll please! The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler Weekend schedule of events is 100% sold out. Hopefully you were able to register for all the events you wanted.

I'll be at the Halloween Party Friday night (look for a set of mouse ears with an orange witch hat), the 5k Saturday morning (wearing bright orange braids with a pumpkin stem on top), and the half marathon Saturday night (looking all the world like a runner). If you see me, make sure to say 'hi' to the RunningFool!

Thanks for sharing your Endeavour stories! It must have been the most memorable of experiences that neither of you will forget.

I did have a very cool Shuttle experience a few years ago when the Alaska flight I was on heading down to Orlando diverted enough where we could literally see the Shuttle just after takeoff coming through the clouds. It was incredible!

Endeavour flew low almost directly over my house in Palo Alto on its way to the flyover at NASA-Ames / Moffett Field in Mountain View. I've been lucky enough to witness two Shuttle launches (both from WDW) and now this. Incredible.
