  1. Dopey Challenge - Week Ten

"No matter how old I get, the race remains one of life's most rewarding experiences. My times become slower and slower, but the experience of the race is unchanged: each race a drama, each race a challenge, each race stretching me in one way or another, and each race telling me more about myself and others."
    --Dr. George Sheehan

Last Saturday evening during the Wine & Dine Half Marathon, I had a young runner pass ...

  2. Dopey Challenge Training - Week Nine

“Training is doing your homework. It’s not exciting. More often than not it’s tedious. There is certainly no glory in it. But you stick with it, over time and incrementally through no specific session, your body changes. Your mind becomes calloused to effort. You stop thinking of running as difficult or interesting or magical. It just becomes what you do. It becomes a habit.”

Generally ...

"Hills. We love them. We hate them. They make us strong. They make us weak. Today I chose to embrace hills." - Hal Higdon, running writer and coach

Ah, San Francisco. Home of the Golden Gate Bridge. Football’s 49-niners. Foggy weather. And of course, more hills than any city should legally be allowed to have. Last Sunday I had the opportunity to run the 2013 Nike Women’s Half Marathon in the City by the Bay as part of Team MousePlanet and it was a great reminder that hill ...

  5. Dopey Challenge Training - Week Six

“Keep varying the program. Your body will tell you what to do.” ~ Joan Benoit Samuelson, 1984 Women's Marathon Olympic Gold Medalist

I’m a skinny-fingered person. Not quite Jack Skellington-skinny but there’s just not a lot of fat on those bones (unfortunately there is more than enough fat distributed elsewhere on my body but that is an entirely different discussion). So I’ve found it odd that during long runs my fingers can puff up like ten little pigs in a blanket. Same thing with ...
