Are the lines still crazy for this during the day?

We are heading there in a few weeks and are hoping that the weekday lines will be short.

I went in March during the week, don't remember the date, but it was a Tuesday. The sign said 45 minutes but we really only waited 30. Not bad in my book. I guess it all depends on which week you're going and what day of the week you're expecting to ride Nemo. IME, Tuesdays and Thursdays are slower than the rest of the week.

I walked by at around 6:45 today and it was about 30 minutes. Keep in mind though that this was just before the 7:00 parade.

We went on it on a Wednesday about 2 weeks ago. The line wait time said 60 minutes, but we were on in 45. The times I've gone I've found that the wait times are very conservative, and not necessarily that long.

We had the same experience with the wait time being 15 min. shorter than the posted sign - we waited 30 min. on a Thursday in March - BE AWARE that you CAN take your stroller in the line! That would have been good info for me to have before fighting with my 2yo for half hour!! It's all shaded and moves the whole time so it didn't seem like thirty min. to me! Have FUN!!!

Nemo's wait times being shorter then posted or what the CMs state seem to happen to me and others so much on Nemo, that I am wondering if Disney is intentionally trying out some new line queuing theories. Maybe telling folks wait is longer then it is, discourages some from getting on line. Then if you do get on line and find the wait is shorter then expected, it leaves you feeling a bit more upbeat.

While an interesting and certainly plausible theory, I just don't see that being the case. On a few different occasions I have been approached by a CM upon entering the line and asked to hold a tag and give it to the last CM I see before boarding the ride. The tag says something about it being used to communicate more accurate wait times to the guests.

Also, this last ride on Nemo, there was a CM in line behind us talking to her friend very loudly about all her "inside information" in an obvious attempt to impress them, even going so far as to make a work related call from line and going on and on about how she was onstage and shouldn't be taking this call so publicly but... and then going on about stuff I already knew from being here too much. It seems to me that if there were some "big attraction wait time secret" she would have known and talked very openly about it.

This cracked me up! I bet you are right - if someone like that has a juicy tidbit of info, they share:D

I have been on Nemo and because the line seems to move pretty fast and it is a great Disney-esque ride (IMO) 30minutes seems like an OK wait time to me.

Actually I think this is standard procedure, but not for the reason you state. I think it is more of under promising and over delivering. By that I mean, if you get in a line and are expecting it to be 45 minutes, but it turns out to be 30 minutes, doesn't that make you happy? This is a standard customer service procedure throughout most companies.

Have any of you had a chance to go on the Nemo ride in Disneyland. I've gone there twice since it opened ( a Sunday and Monday), but I will not get in that horrible line with a 21 month old. When would you say is the best time to go. I've even tried to go when there's a parade and it still packed.
Thank you for your suggestions

Thank you for your suggestionsI would try close to closing, but that is hard with a 21 mos old. But, the line moves quickly and you can keep the child in the stroller until the front.

You could always go to the alternate viewing area. We did this over spring break and had no wait at all!

mid week in the evening last week(around 8:30pm), we waited 15 minutes. Really just a matter of walking by at the right time.

We did it as the last ride of the night & we had my DS 15mos at the time & my niece 6mos at the time. Being able to keep the strollers in the line was a life saver! We got my DS a Buzz Lightyear Blaster and that kept him busy for most of the line & then when we got to the switch backs under the monorail, right before you load, all the lights and passing the kids back and forth got us through that. DS LOVED IT!!! Definatly one of his favorites as we left he sd "Bye Bye Fishies" Worth the whole line just to hear that.

Not to get OT, but this reminds me of the Star Trek:TNG episode "Relics" where Scotty and Geordi LaForge meet.

Geordi: "Yeah, well, I told the captain I will have this analysis done in an hour."
Scotty: "How long will it really take ?"
Geordi: "An hour."
Scotty: "Oh, You did't tell him how long it would REALLY take, did you ?"
Geordi: "But of course I did."
Scotty: "Oh, laddie. You got a lot to learn if you want the people to think of you as a miracle worker."

What's the alternate viewing area?

If you go up to the front of the line, where the CM's are standing. They will show you where you can wait for the viewing room. It is along the back wall
of the queing area. You basically experience the whole ride via video moniters
without having to board the subs. It's best for folks who are alter-abled.
But with your 21 month old, that might be a good idea too.

Mid day, midweek, with sprinkly rain we had a 15-20 minute wait. :)
I was planning to go to the alternate viewing area, but the line was short enough we decided to go for it.

Have you tried ridemaxing it? Maybe you can play with dates and times and find a good combo?

I went on the Nemo ride last August. We made the mad dash from the gate at early entry and got on the first sub of the day. That was fun in and of itself. I thought the ride was great. Totally emersive and detailed in the way that only Disney can do it. I think most will find it charming and little kids would be enchanted. There is one part with the sharks and mines that can be a bit scary, just so you know. I think you should try some of the tips from the others about passing the time in line and try it at the end of the day some day.
Enjoy!

Much much much prefer the alternate view area. I don't have to worry about falling down to climb into the tiny hole of the submarine. I get to watch a large screen and see all the action and not feel claustrophobic!

Thank you so much . I had no idea we could keep the stroller until we get to the front. I would of done it while he was taking his nap. I also didn't know about the alternatate viewing area.
This is why I love MousePlanet.
Thank you thank you

I just sent an email to Jeff Kober who is a staff writer here at MousePlanet and an expert on customer service, asking him if this is company policy for Disney. It seems that it would be. I also asked by what percentage the wait time posted may be increased. You don't want it to be too far off, for then it loses its usefullness and initial purpose.

Thanks for bringing this up and I hope to get a response from my email soon. Then I'll share it here on the discussion boards.

I am very glad that Disney created the alternate viewing area for those who don't have the ability to board the submarines. But part of the thrill and a great deal of the appeal of this attraction is the submarine itself! It is exciting to climb down into it and actually be underwater! And the sounds and movement add another fantastic dimension to the experience. So I would suggest that you wait in line for the whole experience. Of course, the advice you are receiving from many will be very helpful in minimizing the wait time.

I've done the attraction both ways (in the sub/in the alternate viewing area) and much prefer alternate viewing. Having the show on a huge flat-screen vs. a tiny porthole is a big advantage to me and my family. Being in the subs really wasn't that big of a deal to us and we'd rather spend the bulk of our day riding/seeing attractions rather than waiting in line (upwards of 2 hours the first time we rode last summer).

BUT, to each his own. If you prefer going into the subs, enjoy! I'll enjoy the short wait for alternate viewing. :)
