View Full Version : The Westbound Repositioning Cruise is almost here!
Karin 04-19-2008, 11:39 AM I can't believe the trip we booked nearly a year and a half ago is almost here! 3 weeks to the WB Repositioning Cruise! Woo hoo!
What special item are you planning to bring along that you wouldn't normally travel with because of the uniqueness of this trip? (If you're not going on the WB Repo, you can apply this to any other cruise you might be taking in the future).
I'll start. I've never traveled with a child. I now have a 3 month old who will turn 4 months old on the cruise. So. I'm bringing diapers, stroller and all the other trappings that go along with having children. I'm giving up a suitcase of my stuff to make room for his. Which means I'll have to pack more efficiently for myself and not bring absolutely everything, "just in case".
Andrew 04-19-2008, 11:43 AM Snorkel gear. :D
Think I can smuggle a cat in my suitcase?
munchkinsmom0003 04-20-2008, 08:51 AM We use it to store all our toiletries and small items since there isn't a whole lot of counter space in the room. We usually hang it on the outside of the bathroom door. It makes it easily accessible to everything. Here's an example of one:

HTH!
Oh, I forgot to add....Congratulations on being a new mommy!!!!!

We've used these for the last several cruises and swear by them. They make a huge difference in keeping the room clean and organized. We also bring a plugin air freshener. Keeps the room smelling nice and fresh.
mulansgirl 04-21-2008, 01:46 PM So excited I could just pop. It almost seems unreal to me, it has been three years since I traveled anywhere.
This will also be our first time with a baby, seven months, so diapers and such and we will be getting an umbrella stroller as the one we have is a bit big for my taste. Should we bring baby food? or a food mill? or both? and since it is such a long trip do we bring our own laundry detergent or is it cost effective to have the laundry done for you? Any other baby tips are very welcome. And how sound proof are the room my little one is teething and I dont want to annoy the neighbors?
Oh and how was the passport process for the baby for you?
Drince88 04-21-2008, 01:50 PM I would totally bring your own detergent for the baby stuff - the last thing you'd want on top of teething would be a skin reaction to new soaps!
Karin 04-21-2008, 09:55 PM mulansgirl, the passport process was actually great. We paid for the expedited service and the passport came 10 days later. It was obtaining the birth certificate that took more time since he was a newborn and they usually take upwards of 3 months to process a birth certificate and we knew we didn't have that kind of time to wait. But all is well. He was born Jan. 10 and I got the passport on March 4.
Since he's only 3 months old, we don't have to worry about the food issue. I'm still nursing, so I don't have any tips in that area. But I echo Drince88 saying bring your own detergent. We are. One kind for him and one for us. I've tried mixing his laundry is with ours occasionally and his skin just isn't ready for that yet. I think you'll be doing laundry so often (if you're going on the WB Repo) that it'll be better to do it yourself. They may not have a Dreft-type detergent in their laundry service.
I don't expect the rooms are sound proof enough to cover up a screaming child. I think you and I just have to grin and bear it and know that they're gonna scream. People know this is Disney and expect others to bring children and babies on the trip and hopefully will be a little more tolerant of a screaming child than on another cruise line.
Oh, and we're bringing our regular stroller. Granted, we'll be at WDW for a week prior to the WB Repo, but with his neck not totally steady all on his own yet, I would rather have the stroller we know and are used to than one with less support.
And how sound proof are the room my little one is teething and I dont want to annoy the neighbors? Not very. I'm going to be the big bad meanie here and say that *if* your baby is screaming during "sleeping" hours, please, please do not decide that the middle of the ocean is the best time to let them learn to "cry it out." My trans-Atlantic cruise was definitely impacted by the screaming child in the cabin behind me, to the point that I seriously considered asking to change cabins. Yes, I understand that Disney has lots of kids on their ships, and I understand that kids cry, but that does not mean that I am going to be very understanding when your crying child keeps me awake / wakes me up every night for two weeks.

AVP
mulansgirl 04-23-2008, 02:09 PM I am glad the Passport process was good for you, I was hopeing it would be.
We will try our hardest to be invisable neighbors. I was just trying to gage how loud someone can be before the neighbors notice so we can take a walk around the deck before waking anyone up.
Sounds like a good idea to bring our own detergent.
This is going to be a great trip, I am so excited.
Niwel 04-23-2008, 02:14 PM For those traveling with babies, I came across this article (http://www.cruisecritic.com/features/articles.cfm?ID=628) on cruise critic that might help. :)
I don't know that I posted this, so I am including a breakdown of the key dates for the cruise.
Cruise docs are starting to arrive. I know our TA got our docs on Monday (we were in the first mailing wave). Everyone should get theirs over the next week. For those who have cruised with DCL before - the Bahamas no longer requires an immigration form from passengers. So, don't panic that DCL forgot to include them.
The Aruba departure has been moved up to 6pm - reportedly for Reprovisioning reasons. Not sure that makes sense to me, but just be aware, especially if you had any late private excursions booked.
We will be getting a Premi'ear' at Sea of the new Narnia - Prince Caspian movie one night in the WD Theater.
May 10th Port Canaveral
May 11th Castaway Cay
May 12th Sea Day - Formal Night
May 13th Sea Day
May 14th Aruba - Tropical Night
May 15th Sea Day
May 16th Panama Canal
May 17th Sea Day - Semi Formal Night
May 18th Sea Day
May 19th Acapulco - Mexican Deck Party
May 20th Sea Day
May 21st Puerto Vallarta
May 22nd Cabo San Lucas - Pirate Night
May 23rd Sea Day - Formal Ballroom under the Stars Night
May 24th Sea Day
May 25th Los Angeles
Drince88 04-23-2008, 03:19 PM Wow, I got my cruise docs last week, and I sail the day after you guys. I guess it took them longer to do yours, since they're 'unusual'...

Can this be correct since the onboard time for Acapulco is 9:30 p.m. and the onboard time for Cabo is 7:30 p.m.? Seems like these special nights would be when we're At Sea (since we have so many of them). So you have to come back to the ship to take part in these and bypass the nightlife of these ports?
Night time deck parties usually kick off around 9:45 pm. In both ports, if you aren't on board when the party starts, you have much bigger problems than missing the night life in the port - you'll have missed the ship.

hmmm we might bring our snorkel gear but it takes up so much room... i'm always ok going on a trip but we always buy so much stuff to come back with - especially from any disney place or cruise, that i dont think we will have room for other stuff later! even when i bring an extra small duffel for such occassions hahah =)
aside from the possible snorkel gear, i think everything else is the usual stuff we bring all the time hehe
we also booked this trip over a year ago! seems like yesterday! hahah i cant wait -- 2 weeks now eeks!!!!! =)

I haven't gotten any official details about it, except that it will be some type of deck party tied in with the formal night. This is the first time they have ever done this particular party that I know of, so it will be interesting to see the results.

Mr.Abominable 04-30-2008, 12:47 AM I am so bummed that we could not go, you all are going to have the an amazing time. I am even more bummed that we missed an opportunity to have a great trip with so many mouseplanet friends, I hope that chance comes around again. Have a great time!
MKY4ME 04-30-2008, 10:58 AM mr motomickey and I are very disappointed that we had to cancel our westbound repo but being that it is in the summer and disneyland does not really want me to take off 2+ weeks we have to live vicariously through the rest of you....
Karin 04-30-2008, 11:51 AM Are you still going on the Eastbound one, headed back to Florida after it's done here in LA, Bev?
Disneyphile 05-01-2008, 12:16 PM Can't wait! Only 9 days and we'll be setting sail! :)
As for taking something new and different this sailing, not to sound morbid, but my dad and I are bringing a tiny bit of my mom's ashes with us, since cancer decided to not let her make it to this final trip. And, we promised her that she'd still come along regardless.
So, this trip has extra special meaning for us.
Andrew 05-01-2008, 03:27 PM Is there a Web cam on the Magic?
There was one on the Celebrity Infinity, and I passed the address around my office.
There isn't a web cam onboard. However, for the transit on the 16th, there are a number of webcams (including a very nice high resolution camera) available here: http://www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html
They even have a web cam montage of the first transit we did back in 2005!
Here is another one: http://seacruisechat.com/
