Hi! My wife and I have just finished a week driving between Pennsylvania and Ohio, visiting Hersheypark and Cedar Point.
We found the woodys at Hersheypark to be a lot of fun - "Lightning Racer" was a _fantastic_ wooden racing coaster - and its speed was incredible. Also, Hersheypark was much better in the theming department. Although it was a bit odd to see people having their picture taken next to a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup strolling character! :-) The chocolate, of course, was lots of fun! The Great Bear ride deserves more press than it gets... The cast members seemed REALLY nice - it reminded us of Disney on its best days.
Cedar Point - wow! Riding Mill. Force was - unparalleled - in our experience - only Goliath at Magic Mountain compares. The XL200 was actually quite fun - my wife and I found it to be a VERY enjoyable ride, and since M.F. was taking up all the people, you could get on that ride in ten minutes! Raptor is certainly the best inverted coaster we have ever ridden.
The other coasters at Cedar Point just didn't "do it" for us - we found Mean Streak to just plain jostle us up too much, and the Mine Train and Gemini caused neck aches - except for two older coasters - the Blue Streak - their OLDest active coaster - and, surprisinging, the Iron Dragon "hanging basket" coaster. My wife just plain ENJOYED Iron Dragon, and had a big smile on her face - I asked her what she licked about it and she said "I can't say - except that I really _liked_ it!"
...and isn't that the whole point, after all?
We also wished that Cedar Point made at least SOME attempt at theming - other than the decades old "Frontier Town". The midway, in particular, was almost depressing in its simplicity.
Anyhow, just thought I'd mention two fun parks. One of these days, we'll visit my home-town park in Minneapolis (ValleyFair) when we fly back to visit my parents some time - 12 years of trips, and we still haven't visited that park...
