Hi. New here. My friend and I booked a Garden View room for 4 nights at The Polynesian, but we booked through Hotels.com (was $309 vs. 399 from Disney). We want to try to get a room assignment request to the resort. When we callled Disney, and you book from outside them, Disney Reservations will only reluctantly acknowledge that they have your res number. They say they can't see the reservation details and that it gets forwarded to the resort the day before we arrive. Anyway I have couple questions: 1) Is there a best way to get a room request in to them? 2) Does it really mean anything if I do? 3) I've heard that the 3rd floorTahiti is good/best if you want to be close to transportation and want a balcony like we do. I've explored the Tiki guys site, and that seems about right, but any other thoughts from you all? THANKS!

Welcome to MP.
The best way to have your requests known is to have them added to the reservation. However, the only way to do that is to go through the booking agent. In this case... hotels.com. If they wont do it for you, you might be out of luck.

Some have said that you could fax your requests to the hotel a couple of days before. However, recently there have been reports that the practice of doing so is not recommended anymore.

In short, I think you need to see if Hotels.com will help you. But do keep in mind that no room request is ever guaranteed, but Disney does try to make them happen.

Thanks. I'll call Hotels.com and let everyone know how it goes.

Maybe it was just our luck, but our room requests have never been honored. So if it was me, I would make the attempt at the request, but not put too much time or effort into it. I would see if they had what I wanted on check in...

While I cannot cite a specific post / site at this time where I have seen such comments, they are scattered around here and other boards. Its not that you cant try to fax the requests, its just that the preferred method is to have all requests in the ressie itself.

One of the main reasons for this that I have read is that with many of the resorts being rather large, having to go through the (possibly) large number of faxes for requests takes up a lot of time and in essence, is double work considering that the requests are (or should be) noted in the reservations itself. Its just that if someone relies only on the faxing method, there is a good chance that it wont get read and/or addressed.

Mileage may vary on this one...

Gotcha. Makes sense. I always thought that it must be overwhelming to figure out all of those requests!
