View Full Version : Is there any decent fireworks viewing in DCA?
HisKid1 04-16-2008, 03:08 PM I keep catching snippets of it from there, but I wondered if there were anyplace that you could get a decent-ish view of them? DS (not surprisingly) is scared of the noise, but I think if I could have him watch them from DCA, he might grow to like them more (MUCH quieter from over there). Thanks!
Darkbeer 04-16-2008, 04:49 PM NO, the entire park has BAD sight lines.
I like the view from the Paradise Pier Pool Deck (3rd floor), music is piped in, and the "booms" won't be as loud.
Another favorite choice of mine is the hot tub at HoJo's, but that will be closed until sometime in July.
stan4d_steph 04-17-2008, 01:15 AM You can see them from the Sun Wheel, but you'd have to get the timing just right.
AlbertaMinnie 04-17-2008, 07:00 AM Many people gather in the esplanade to watch... although you don't really hear the music, it may just get him accustomed to the noise and perhaps curious enough to want to be closer next time! Find a spot by the California letters perhaps!
saucydiva 04-17-2008, 08:18 AM You can't hear the soundtrack, obviously, and you miss all the Castle-centric lighting, but we've often viewed the fireworks from the top level of the Mickey parking garage. We are passholders and have seen the fireworks approximately one zillion times, so this glimpse is just enough to give us the warm fuzzies inside and cap off a fun evening (while it surely would not satisfy someone who hasn't seen the fireworks magic before). Then we're halfway home before the crowd struggles out of the park.
Mickeygirlforever 04-18-2008, 04:11 PM I'm one of those who has to sit in front of the castle. When you do, you get the full expierence of them (the HM stretching room and such), and can see what's going on on the castle. I guess the next best thing would be the esplanade, but also agree that you can't really see them from DCA :).
HisKid1 04-18-2008, 04:15 PM Oh, I understand that you can't get the full effect, but that's what I'm looking for. I WANT a partial effect, where he can see them (as well as possible) but it is not nearly as loud or intense (and if they are upsetting him, we can easily turn and do something else, or head on home.

That's actually a really good idea. If you're not already parked on the top, do they let you drive up there?

I would suggest walking up (or taking the elevator). The cones are all set up for exiting the structure, so it may be a bit of an ordeal to drive up.
Just a note that once you begin to exit, there is really no place to pull over so that you can watch. One chilly winter night we were waiting for the fireworks. It was quite cold, and knew that there was a possibility that the fireworks would be cancelled due to wind. Well we waited until 9:30 and figured they weren't happening. Got in the car and began to exit. Of course, we hear KABOOM and realize that they have now begun. That's when I discovered there was no way to pull over and we had to exit out onto the street.
I've watched from Paradise Pier. We found a good place right in between the Sun Wheel and California Screamin'.
THpoohbear 04-18-2008, 10:30 PM Last week my sister and I stopped to watch them on the bridge by Ariel's Grotto. It was a great spot. We saw a lot of the show, and it was beautiful. I think it would be a good spot for your family to watch if you're only looking for a partial effect and less boom noise.

You have to pay to "park" your car...
But you can always take the tram from in front of the World of Disney Store to the Structure, then take the escalator to the top level. That is Free.

Darkbeer, you are always thinking, aren't you. We have prem. AP's, so this didn't occur to me, but that is excellent info. for others (and probably us in the future). :) Thanks for always looking out for everyone.
