Taking our 2 year old and 7month old at the end of May to DLR. What is the one thing that you wish you would have brought the first time that you traveled with young children? Thanks for the feedback!

Quart size Ziplock bags

A good size for "used" underwear, wet swimsuits, wet anything!

A harness so he could walk with a little bit of freedom while we sat for a minute.

A large lightweight towel/blanket to put down for the baby to crawl on. We have a blanket for the dog to lie on when we rest in places.

BUBBLES!!!!

Pipe cleaners in various colors!

(OK, so I am stealing from Adrienne K, but they are ideas I wish I had thought of! And the pipe cleaners may work to keep MickeyDogMom quiet the next trip!)

A babysitter. (We're bringing a friend's daughter in June, and she's never been to DL before!)

LOL, just the Bubbles part. I don't remember who came up with the pipe cleaners. I pretty much think of you and I just about always on the same page on these threads anyway, aren't we almost always? LOL.

I can only say that there was only one time I didn't have it that I 'wished' I had it- but that trip ended memorably so I've never gone without it again:

Liquid and/or chewable over-the-counter pharmaceuticals and syringes to dispense them. I've been lucky because I got the equivalent dosage table from my pediatrician (My real one, the one our insurance pays for and everything, not just my sister this time, lol,) so I didn't have to buy infant tylenol, etc. Too expensive and droppers SUCK.

Hats and sunscreen. Forgot this on one trip and they are no bargain at DL.

Just remember, if you do forget sunscreen, and you are in the park, you can always go to the first aid center.

But - while the FAC will also give you OTC pharmas free, they will ONLY give you the dosage on the bottle. Which is notoriously underdosed. Every ped uses a higher scale for dosing OTC than the bottles say. I always dose based on the pediatrician's formula. Some will pass it out. Some websites list it. My ped always tells me the current amount I can give my sons at our visits but his office also has a handout on the topic, too!

mother to TWO sons who have been prone to febrile seizures, lucky us! We're above average!

Very true!! My kids have prescriptive Motrin we use when at the park (ankle and knee issues.) Basically, its 800 mg or 4 regular Motrins. Park will only give 2 (400 mg.) We always try and remember it, but if we forget, we can get 2 to tide us over til we go back to the room.

sunscreen ( I didn't know you could get it in the first aid center, thanks for the tip!) tylenol/motrin
extra bottle/sippy cup we lost my sons and it was the only one for the whole trip and we still had a 24 hour car ride
Extra change of clothes just in case

I second the more help, another relative to help out with small kids is great to have along. I've traveled with others who say it was worth it to treat someone else just for this purpose.

Quart size Ziplock bags

I second the ziplock bags!!!! I usually put a set of extra clothes in a baggy. The 1st time my DS 2 saw the water @ bug's land, he was completly drenched by the time we could say wai......t! Wet clothes in the baggy, dry clothes on the kiddy.

We also take his PJs and change him before we leave the park. It's so much easier to get them out of the stroller and straight to bed/crib when you get back to the hotel. The 1st time we changed him after we got back to the hotel he woke up and was WIRED. Unexpected because he's always an angle at home @ bedtime.

Snugi/Baby Bjorn is a must for the 7 month old. You can keep the little one in it while you ride many of the rides.

i third the ziploc bags! traveling thru airport security with my liquids not contained in a "zip top quart size bag" wasnt as smooth as it could have been.

plus they make great protectors for cameras, wallets, phones, etc. :D

I still use ziplock bags.

Gallon size works for my hubby, he always wants to go swimming "one last time", and I don't want to take home a suitcase full of wet stuff.;)

Extra lunch size work in my purse for that leftover food I just don't want to waste, or to carry stuff I don't want to spill into my purse.

I LOVE PLASTIC BAGGIES...they have saved me from lots of messy stuff:fez:

Another big fan of having a stash of baggies in your purse/backpack. When we get to enjoy the park with my favorite little people one of the big treats is to buy a bucket of popcorn for all of us to share...most of the time we divy it into baggies so everyone has their own...sometimes we just do the 'family grab' and share out of the bucket but it's always good to have them for the options. We like to put goldfish in them to hand off to the boys as well, much more economical than buying the individual portion baggies that are available.

Anyone at the park when we are and you need a ziplock bag, we always have spares!! Generally, the kids will carry a quart size or two in backpacks for phone/camera protection, then we have 10-20 sandwich size ones for leftovers/doggie patrol, and the dog usually has 2-3 in his back pack for fast draws.

I never thought of that...................good idea I hate getting them out of the stroller to the bed to change that would make life easier. Thanks

Hats. I always forget to pack hats. No I take that back. Last summer I packed hats but left it in the hotel:confused:. I love the idea of the pj's. My cousin Miles who is three sleeps like a log after a long day in the park, but its so hard to get him in pj's when we make it back to the hotel because as most parents know....for some reason kids seen like they weigh 100 lbs when their sleep.

Post-its to cover the sensors for the automatic toilet flushers so that the toilet wont scare the little ones!

Coins to buy pressed pennies (a fun and inexpensive souvenir). We keep a supply in an altoid tin.

Sunglass case. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the park with my sunglasses already on and then didn't have a good place for them in my bag!

I love the PJ idea too! The little ones almost always fall asleep on the way back to the hotel.

Oh I just remembered 1 more
Bring a Sharpie for the autograph book. I was just going through my DS 1st autograph book from our WDW trip and you can't read any of the autograph signed with the pen it came with. This was so disappointing because we got soooo many autographs. :crying:
