Some people may think my priorities may be messed up, but I have a conference call I will need to attend to next Monday during my trip. I am in SoCal from this upcoming Saturday evening to Thursday afternoon.

I am staying at the Hilton Suites, and I of course could head back to the hotel to take care of my business, but I would rather not take so much time out of my day for a 90 minute conference call.

If I remember correctly, the lobby of the GCH has wireless internet service. I suspect that may be my best bet to discreetly find a corner (I wont be talking much, mainly listening and working on a netmeeting, only once in a while bringing something up) with my phone headset and laptop.

I am wondering, but doubt it, as a non-guest can I use the GCH business center? I would normally call, but they are closed (its 22:50 PDT as I write this now), and the main switchboard was not 100% sure, although they thought no, another person they asked thought yes...

I figure I can just leave my laptop in a locker for most of the day, but am looking for a reliable and convenient place for my approximately two hours for business. I'll have my mobile phone, headset, and VPN networking doing a netmeeting plus email.

Any ideas?

The GCH lobby does have wireless internet access so I think that is probably you best bet. You should be able to find a nice quiet corner. Much better than trekking back to your hotel.

You might be more comfortable in the Hearthstone Lounge, although you should probably at least buy a soft drink if you're going to be in there for a couple of hours. :) They have tables that would make it easier to set up your machine.

Thanks! This is something I guess I overlooked. I guess instead of the business center this would be more up my idea of a conference call!

Of course I'll be having something a bit more sudsy than just a soft drink. Anyone have a beer list? How early do they open (and serve)?

They have Newcastle on tap and another one I don't remember. Does that help?

The nice thing about Hearthstone is that there are a lot of nooks and crannies around the room to sit in. Their menu - meh. Their food selections are rather limited. On Saturday night, we went there because I really wanted a Redwood Mai Tai. But after drinks, we hopped to the Uva Bar to get food.

Did we? I don't remember.

I called about 12 hours ago and I have an update for a few of my questions...

Officially the business center is for guests only, but I spoke with a CM and they indicated that if not busy, it has been known to be opened to non-guests as well periodically. However that is a moot point since...

The Hearthstone Lounge opens at 06:00, and starts serving spirits at 11:00. I guess if my meeting is earlier than that, I could always quietly update my coffee to make it "Irish". ;)

Morning crowds vary, but are busiest Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This upcoming Monday it will ebb and flow for how busy it may be. I spoke with a CM working there and they said they would be honored to host my little conference call. I appreciated how welcome I feel already. I asked about their beer selection, and completely forgot about it already.

I'm glad that the Lounge will be open. I was wondering how early it opened. And my suggestion for a soda was if you were having an AM meeting. If the bar's open, by all means have a drink!

I would be very happy if my husband had only ONE conference call during a "vacation" :-)

Enjoy.
