View Full Version : Possible Resort change, please help
Leslie 04-13-2008, 01:11 PM We currently have the Pop reserved for our anniversary the last week of June. Im starting to have second thoughts on staying there. Not because we dont like the place but because I think I would like a more adult pace resort. Maybe not so many kids or just a slow pace. I know there will be kids but maybe not just so many as the Pop. Please anyone tell me your thoughts on the french Quarter verses the Pop. And what about the bus system as I realize the French Quarter will share with others unlike the Pop. Quiet rooms at the French? Thanks
It depends on what amenities are important to you-and that you will use. Because you will be paying for them if you move up to a moderate. I loved Pop-truly did. However, I couldn't do that type of busy pace for an entire vacation.
So-is this trip a visit or a vacation? Drince made that distinction in a trip report I read and I think it's spot on. Visit-little time in the room and resort-just somewhere to lay your head. Vacation-more resort time; more relaxed feel, using the resort amenities.
FQ does not have a sit down ts-same as Pop; there's one main pool at FQ-Pop has two I believe. FQ-and all the moderates have a fridge and a coffee maker included in the price. FQ does share buses with Riverside-Pop does not. Rooms are bigger at all the moderates-however, I will say that as one of the newest on site resorts, Pop's rooms are really well engineered-in terms of use of space. Food court at Pop was a hit in terms of choices but completely inadequate for a resort this size-breakfast is a zoo. Beds-Pop's were uncomfortable and CBR's(a moderate) were great. I heard and felt neighbors while at Pop-not so at CBR. Oh-and as gone into at length previously-air conditioning at Pop was an issue for me(and others here on MP)but not all.
Also-if you're looking at the end of June-are there rooms available at FQ? As one of the smallest resorts-it tends to fill up fast.
So is the extra $ you'll spend at FQ(or any moderate) worth it to you? $50+ per night-unless you have a discount. Only you can answer that question.
GusMan 04-13-2008, 04:25 PM To me, going to POFQ or POR are very reasonable upgrades from any of the values. My first choice would be POR because of the theming, the number of pools, and dining options. And even though it does share a bus with POFQ, it is really a decent setup.
That and easy accessibility to DTD, it really is a good option.
But you better make up your mind fast as I am rather sure availability may be an issue shortly, if not already.
Leslie 04-14-2008, 03:25 AM Oh no, I checked with my TA from Dreamsunlimited and she said Disney is showing no availability on the moderates for our travel dates. Can it possibly be that full at Disney? At 1 time? If the mods. are full then the values must be packed? Does this mean were in for a long crowded week the end of June? What did I get myself into? lol
GusMan 04-14-2008, 06:00 AM You have to keep in mind that June is not going to be a slow time of year. Its going to be VERY busy and pretty much all the resort hotels are going to be at or near capacity.
Leslie 04-14-2008, 06:09 AM Your right Gusman, I called myself and yes they are all full or almost. No mods. openings and only a few values. We cant really afford the deluxes so I guess were stuck at the Pop. Someday I would like to try the mods. Im to late at this time to change. Bummer for me.
Cheshire Figment 04-14-2008, 07:28 AM What you can do is try again starting about 50 days prior to arrival. This is important since Disney starts heavy cancellation penalties at 45 days out, so if people are going to cancel it will generally be in the 45-50 day out range. Note that for packages there is no change fee for an upgrade to a higher price.
Leslie 04-14-2008, 08:47 AM Great idea I will put that on my calendar to try and will keep calling every few days until we leave to see if we can get a resort change. :)
danyoung 04-14-2008, 10:45 AM Many times I've called and had my first choice hotel be full, only to call again a week or 2 later and get what I wanted. Disney is always shuffling their inventory around. Just because there are no rooms CURRENTLY available doesn't mean that they're totally sold out. Keep trying, and good luck!
msladybugzz 04-15-2008, 12:40 AM I went back and forth on this as well. We HAD 5 people going and either needed POR -because some have a trundle for the 5th person- or two value rooms (I did not want a suite since we all hate pull outs). Since the POR is about double the price of the value rooms, it was nearly a wash as far as money - $200 per night. Comparing the size of the rooms, DTD boats, a TS restaurant, a fridge included, and the fact that the sink area has privacy with a curtain - we opted for POR.
Then we decided to treat my BiL and we now have six people. So we added an adjoining room... now we're up to $400 per night - WOW! I've recently been thinking that we could have had two value rooms for the same price as one at the POR, and I've been budget concerned. The hubby knocked some sense into me and said we're sticking with the nicer rooms - he compared it to staying at a Hilton vs. Days Inn (albeit with a Disney theme).
This is probably the last time we will go to WDW as a family since we are overseas in the USAF (and our girls are 17, 15, 13)... we're going do do it right!
80 days and counting! Woo Hoo!
Leslie 04-15-2008, 03:51 AM Thanks Gusman are you saying the end of June is busy? lol:) That is the only time we can go what a bummer for us I better find my patience then. Ok then I need some advice. If we get to rope drop and get right to space mountain when we get done with that will splash mountain, big thunder, and haunted manshion all be full by then? Oh im a little worried now. I feel it will be some very LONG days...

Yes...it will be a busy time. There really isnt two ways around it.
I would like to ask that if you have questions regarding touring plans that you please post your question in the Touring the Parks (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65) forum. :)
stan2u 04-15-2008, 06:59 AM June is listed as a quite busy month in most books and brochures, and it is the second half of June that is the worst. A couple of years ago we went with our daughter, her former husband, and their two kids in early June, and it wasn't too bad. Even the water parks weren't real crowded in the morning. The weather was hot and humid, so a water park at 9AM felt great. Only MK was crowded all days - the other three parks were very tolerable.
Many schools don't let out until mid-June, so that is when the traffic picks up.
Leslie 04-26-2008, 05:37 AM Today I checked with Disney and there have been some cancellations but for the Caribbean but not the French Quarter. But the good news is there have been cancellations and I will keep checking everyday for the French Quarter. Maybe we will get in after all. :)
Drince88 04-26-2008, 05:54 AM Leslie, I wouldn't hold my breath for 2 rooms at French Quarter for your whole trip. It's the smallest of the moderate resorts, and many people enjoy it for that reason, and it is usually the first to sell out because of it.
Leslie 04-26-2008, 06:16 AM Nope, we are looking for 1 room. Husband had a medical procedure done and it looks like we wont need 2 rooms. So we did cancell 1 room for the Pop. So Im just waiting for 1 room to open up at the French Quarter. I'll check everyday until we leave June 21st.
kymom99 04-26-2008, 01:20 PM I am going to POR the same time you are. I had to change from the first week of June to the 3rd and could not get FQ for that week. I originally had FQ at a AAA rate. The only mod available for the leter date was CBR, and their main pool is closed through September. I managed to get Riverside after watching the Disney website and calling when I saw an opening, and no AAA rate available. The strange thing is, there were king rooms available, but we couldn't have one because there are 3 of us and my son is 8, but you can get 5 people in a standard room! My step daughter reserved a king room for 3 people because their little one is under 3. I don't know why they won't allow roll away beds in a king room. I would assume the actual rooms are about the same size and you would think with only a king bed there would be more room for a trundle or roll away.
It's a mute point now for us, but if they would rethink that policy, it could help future travelers!
Have fun and I hope you get a room at FQ!
Drince88 04-28-2008, 07:45 AM Husband had a medical procedure done and it looks like we wont need 2 rooms.
That's good to hear (that the procedure was a success!)
