I seem to recall reading somewhere that, with the Disney Dining Plan, it was possible to exchange one table service credit for two counter service credits--or possibly even two counter service credits plush something else (a "snack" maybe). Can anyone confirm whether this type of swapping is possible?

I have not heard of that before but I was able to use TS credits at POR's food court. It was a one-for-one swap, though...

I think at one point it was 1 TS for 1 CS and a snack, but that was pretty limited. And you had to get the snack at the CS location, if I recall correctly. It was basically to account for the lack of availability in TS locations at the time, I believe.

It was an exchange of 1 TS for 1 CS plus either a snack or two (at the same time from the same location) or 1 CS plus a voucher for a pin/lanyard starter set (from select locations - it was not a set that was sold, just a freebie, and you didn't get a choice). We did the pin/lanyard set last year and ended up with a plain blue lanyard and a super cute Donald Duck in an airplane pin that we LOVED. It was well worth the exchange since Max had 1 TS meal left over and I didn't have any.
I am not sure that they offer this on a regular basis... I know they offered it during free dining each of the past three years though. It was something they did during busier TS dining times for people who didn't plan ahead and make ADRs and were kind of out of luck on finding TS meals at the last minute.
