I have some friends who went here during the "soft" opening a few months back....

They said the food was really, really good, but that it was extremely pricey. I would be interested to hear what others think!

I'll be eating there this Friday for the first time. Everything I've read about it says that the food is terrific, but it's pretty pricey for a buffet (something like $59.95 per person!). If you're on the dining plan it's a good deal, not so much if you're actually paying for it. I'm only eating there cuz it'll be my one and only time to eat at Tutto Italia before they change name and menus this summer.

I reviewed a menu, and it's family style, not a buffet. The table gets choices of appetizers, entrees, etc., and the food is brought on platters. I assume if you are dining alone, they would make up a plate for you, or serve smaller portions.

As long as I get plenty of tasty Italian food, I'm happy with whatever format!

Is it covered under the DDP?

So I had my meal last night at Tutto Italia, and was surprised to find that it was not a prix fixe menu and/or buffet, nor was it family style. It was a straight restaurant, with a menu, appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. I had a great meal, but it surprised me that I was ordering off of a standard style menu. I don't know if this is a recent change or what.

Nope, but that would have made no difference. There was NO $59.95 prix fixe meal available, as far as I know.

Sadly that's the one meal that I didn't save a receipt for, and I don't really remember. It was good, and the service was excellent, but I can't come up with what I was eating. I do remember it was raining cats & dogs outside, and I was happy to be inside by a window enjoying the wet view!

You know, I could've sworn that I posted about Tutto Italia at least a couple of times after I ate there in October, and talked about ordering items off of the menu. Maybe I'm just hallucinating. Or maybe I talked about it on the podcast and never actually posted about it.

Anyway, I ate there twice, once for lunch with my media handler while I did two interviews, and again the next night with John Van Meter from Owner's Locker. I enjoyed the lunch much more than the dinner. Lunch was the Trofie. Delicious! Dinner was (if I remember right) the Paccheri (which is no longer on the menu). Just OK, nothing to write home about.

At the time, there was a "Family Table" option which was a set menu, family style meal for $59 per adult and $18.50 for kids 9 and under. However, it appears that the current menu does not include that, either.

It might be worth another try, but it's not at the top of my list.

So I've since done a little research, meaning I read an online menu, and remembered what I had. My appetizer was pasta e fagioli soup, a rice-sized pasta with beans - very tasty and filling. I was almost full by the time my entree got to me - tortelloni alla panna tartufata, a veal ravioli. I'm not usually big on veal, but it was the best looking thing on the menu. Again, very tasty. Absolutely no room for dessert! The waiter was terrific. I had a window seat, and was able to watch all the people scurrying around to get out of the torrential downpour that lasted all through dinner!

Since it only opened a year ago, I would anticipate it will be around for a while yet.

They kept saying that it was going to close for a major refurb, but who knows when that will happen now (was supposed to be Spring 08, I think).
