Does anyone have a reasonable explanation for the lack of Photopass on DCL? Just returned and it seems like such a waste to see all the excess photo paper thrown away when we could all benefit with Photopass and review at home.

The concept is still fairly new to Disneyland. I agree it would be a great perk to have -- they make so much $$ off the photos, maybe they consider it more of an impulse buy. :)

Adrock, you hit it on the head... We would benefit from Photopass. However, there is something about having a captive audience that drives up sales. In other words, having the pictures there exclusively makes them "unique" and you will not be able to get them anywhere else. That fores you to make a decision to buy them then and there.

I would LOVE to have photopass on DCL... I would be buying that CD in a heartbeat. There have been past rumors and speculation that it will happen in the future, but until it actually happens, its just talk.

I totally agree with the "impulse" part of the buy with the exception that from an economic perspective, Disney makes LESS by pre-printing the photos. The wasted paper and labor required to continuously stock and monitor the photos eats into profit. As far as the impulse part, DCL could offer on board terminals at which you could buy the photos at a discount. Just a thought and also WAY more efficient.:D

Totally agreed that there could be a way better way to do it.
However, I can pretty much guarantee that if DCL was not decently profitable in how they work their photo gallery, they would be doing it some other way.

Its all about the marketing. You can always walk away from a kiosk after you look at a picture. But there is something about seeing the picture there in front of you that makes you -want- to buy it.

Until they change it, we will forever be slaves to the Photo Gallery Shuffle. (Masses of people going from section to section seeing if they can find their pictures.) :)

I will buy them either way. But I have to agree that I'd buy the CD in a heartbeat. Always do when at WDW. I however love being able to see them right there in front of me also. I have heard rumors that they will be implementing the Photo pass system in the near future...that came from DCL personel themselves. But honestly won't believe it til I see it.
