I've heard that the Polynesian is sort of "run down" and needs updating. Any comments on this? Was your room clean, etc. when you went?

We were there last February (2007) and stayed in the Hawaii Lodge. Wow! Wow! Wow! Is all I can say! It was awesome. Not cheap, but awesome! Very pretty grounds. I thought it was clean. The staff was very pleasant. We are trading in our September DL trip for a September WDW trip and wish that personal economics were different so that we could stay there again.

The Polynesian recently completed a renovation. It should be quite spiffy everywhere at the resort these days. By all means, if it's in your budget, go for it!

We are getting ready to book our first Land/Sea and are picking the Poly (so excited!!!).

Since we will have a standard room view can anyone recommend what I should request; garden or pool? Specific long house?

Thanks

We (DH, DS-age 6, DD-age 2, and I) will be staying at the Poly 4/23 - 4/29. I'm sooooo excited! It will be our first time at a Deluxe resort, so I am hoping it is well worth the extra $. We requested a Theme Park view in Tahiti, so I am hopeful that is where we will be. The beach and Disney - what more could a girl want?!

I just visited there last week...DH said he felt it was old..nice but old.The lobby 1st and 2nd floors were mobbed with people and the eateries were very active and fun.Ohanas looks really good and I did love the gift shops and lush gardens but I do not like how the rooms and main building are not attatched. But its the Hawaiian feel I guess. The grounds are nice and view is nice.I would not like a room with a bad view here though. We decided if we ever styed it would have to be a good view with a major discount.Excellent place to visit for dinner though..ps I heard bad reviews on the luau from a family just leaving it...

I'm one of the few people out there that think the Poly looks and smells old. Like moldy laundry and mothballs. I'd never pay what WDW wants to stay there. I think it's ultra-cheesy. I'll pass.

We were at the Polynesian during the renovation in August of 06. We stayed in Rapanui which had been upgraded and it was just gorgeous. The room was huge and had a plasma TV and balcony; likewise, the bathroom was new and large. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, though the Floridian and AKL remain my favorites. The Polynesian pool is lovely and the slide is fun. The only downside is that the pool tends to attract a lot of gnats and bugs at night. The main buildings looked OK. I would not call the resort "run-down" at all.
