View Full Version : Is this true? [being interrogated when upgrading hopper to AP]
letitsnow 03-26-2008, 05:03 PM i found this searching on google about upgrading. i don't remember all the answers to the questions!!!

I recently purchased some park hopper passes with family members. We decided to upgrade at the end of our visit. When my niece went to purchase her annual pass they grilled her on how the park hopper ticket had been used. Questions included when did first use the park hopper? Which park did you visit first ? What time of day did you enter the park ? It would be smart to make a record on every use of each park hopper ticket to insure that you can upgrade if you wish.
emmah 03-26-2008, 05:19 PM I don't know if that particular story is true, but certainly there have been a fair few comments posted here on MP to the effect that if there is any doubt in the mind of the CM, when you go to upgrade, that you are the original owner of the parkhopper, they will ask questions. this is due to the fact that park tickets are non-transferable and they want to make sure that people are not taking advantage of the upgrade facility by buying tickets on ebay etc to do so. I doubt that they would ask all those questions unless they were really suspicious (the one time I did it, on day 3 of a 7 day park hopper, they didn't ask any questions at all)...

Its very common. People buy/get other people's "last day" of the ticket, and it is to upgrade to an AP. (Check out this link.) (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=96551) To help curb this, they ask the above. If it is your park hopper, you generally remember the first day of your trip, where you went and the time you entered. Heck, my last trip was at Christmas for 12 days, and I still remember my first day was Dec 23 and I entered the park (Disneyland) in the afternoon.
Mermaid 03-26-2008, 06:28 PM I had them grill me when I decided to extend my trip by a day and added a day to my ticket. They were like where did you go first? Then? Then? It was hard to remember but finally they added the day. This was before I had an AP. Usually I upgrade on day 1 or 2 when I walk by and see a short line at the Bank so I have never been questioned when upgrading.
momuvseven 03-27-2008, 11:12 AM We have never had this happen. We buy them as part of a package deal and then upgrade after we have used the special features on the tickets. Never a problem and we are a big family for them to process.
curtsinore 03-27-2008, 11:39 AM Am I to understand that 5 day park hopper can be up graded to a 6 or 7 day park hopper once inside the park?. We buy ours AAA oregon and all we can get is 5 days.
Malcon10t 03-27-2008, 03:19 PM Am I to understand that 5 day park hopper can be up graded to a 6 or 7 day park hopper once inside the park?. We buy ours AAA oregon and all we can get is 5 days. Most AAA tickets are marked WDTC, and can be upgraded at the Travel Center at a discount. If upgraded in the park, you don't get the discount. Check with AAA as they do have up to 8 day tix at mine, but you have to ask.
curtsinore 03-27-2008, 03:38 PM I had used your advice, always looking for your insight and I asked our Oregon AAA for longer tickets and they said they don't have them avaiable. Where is the WDTC ?

Where is the WDTC ?Make sure the Ore. AAA tickets have WDTC on them. Then you can usually go to WDTC (around the corner from Compass books in DTD) to upgrade. If it doesn't say WDTC, they won't upgrade them. Your other option is to call WDTC ((714) 520-5060) and buy from them and you can buy up to 8 days.
mistofviolets 03-28-2008, 10:02 AM I don't know about upgrading, but there were "survey takers" at the gate asking those same questions last time we went. (Was this a park hopper, is this the first days use (after scanning it) Did you go to DL or DCA first? how long is your stay, etc etc etc.)
aznewsboy 03-28-2008, 10:52 AM About those survey people:We had 8 day hopper passes last visit & we were always approached by them. One told us we could take the survey on the last day of our trip. On our last day we were leaving DCA & a survey taker asked my husband if he'd take the survey in a tent which he did. He got paid $20 for it. That was a nice surprise!
tonytone 03-31-2008, 09:56 AM I upgraded my park hopper on the last day and wasn't "interrogated" when I asked to upgrade it to an AP...probably because they had me in their system as being an ex-AP holder (less than 2 years). ;)
Darkbeer 03-31-2008, 10:05 AM The first question the CM will ask is "Do you have your receipt", so if you have it and bring it, there should be no problem. But if you don't have the receipt and/or it isn't in your name, be prepared for additional questions. Due to the major abuse at eBay/CraigsList/etc, they need to make sure that you actually bought the ticket.
letitsnow 04-01-2008, 11:19 AM we went on saturday and upgraded our hopper tickets...and the lady was soooooo nice. there was no line and we were upgraded just like that! we even got an exception for my mother who had to leave the trip early and couldn't return back with us!
AlbertaMinnie 04-08-2008, 11:38 AM We upgraded to annual passes on Saturday as well. Just as you... the cast member that helped us was very helpful, happy and there was no interrogation and this is our very first time as annual pass holders. We didn't have to show receipts or anything at all. We got in and out in about 10 minutes for the 4 of us. I guess Saturday was just a good day!
Malcon10t 04-08-2008, 01:30 PM To be honest, you are less likely to be grilled if the dates the ticket is used are close together and if you are from out of state. But if you have a 5 day ticket, and used days 1-4 then on the last day the ticket is good, you show up to upgrade, you will more than likely get quizzed.
samkj 04-08-2008, 05:13 PM We upgraded on the last day of our PH tickets. We weren't really interrogated, but we did get a brief lecture on the virtues of park hopper since we had only done it 2 of the 6 days we were there. My parents were there with 2-fer tickets, so we chose not to PH those days so we could stay together.
