Does anyone know how to over ride the Pop's room air conditioners for cooler air? I hear they are pre set but can over ride them. Thanks

Leslie 03-25-2008, 11:12 AM Does anyone know how to over ride the Pop's room air conditioners for cooler air? I hear they are pre set but can over ride them. Thanks THpoohbear 03-25-2008, 11:29 AM I've stayed at POP once, in Sept. 07. I was really worried about the air conditioning before I left since I like a very cold room, and we were going in September! But ya know, our thermostat went down to 60-something. I think it was 66 or 67. We never had a problem with our room being too hot. I was very pleasantly surprised! I had read about all the complaints about hot rooms and tips on overriding the thermo., but I wonder if they've been changed recently? What I encountered was not the same as what I'd been reading. Hope you're room is nice and cool! danyoung 03-26-2008, 06:43 AM Joining this thread, cuz this has always been a huge problem for me. The thermostat in most rooms (not just the Pop) only go down to 68. I like to sleep colder than this, and am never totally comfortable with the room's coolness. petesimac 03-26-2008, 08:39 AM I'm telling you, you won't have a problem. We stayed at Pop last summer and while the weather was very hot, the rooms were nice and cool. Trust me, I'm a nut about wanting it cool when I sleep, and Pop's rooms were so much better than the AC over at ASMusic where I could never get the room cool. It might also have something to do with the room's location and how much the sun shines in the windows. tjrj 03-26-2008, 02:12 PM Joining this thread, cuz this has always been a huge problem for me. In my experience-while fine in the day time, I couldn't get it cold enough at night. Drince88 03-26-2008, 02:17 PM It might also have something to do with the room's location and how much the sun shines in the windows. I think you might have something pretty important there. No amount of insulation is going to make up for being on the sunny side of the street. bradk 03-27-2008, 03:56 AM the systems and limits vary immensely between resorts. when i stayed at WL club, I don't think there was a limit, it could go to well below 40 as i recall. poly's system auto shuts off if there's no motion, so they recommend tying a balloon near it so there's always motion from the air blowing the balloon around. 68 might be the number for POP, I remember it being 74 although maybe it's changed since then. i remember in 2005 that POP wasn't cold enough for me, but last time I stayed in May 07, it seemed just fine danyoung 03-27-2008, 06:11 AM ...poly's system auto shuts off if there's no motion, so they recommend tying a balloon near it so there's always motion from the air blowing the balloon around. What a dumb system! So on a hot summer night, if you happen to be a very deep sleeper and don't toss around, your AC is going to shut off while you sleep? Foolish! Wendi 03-27-2008, 03:31 PM I remember when we stayed there our mousekeeper (or maybe they automatically reset each day) would crank it to 62 or 64 degrees!!! It was super freezing when we'd get back to the room at the end of the night. I woke up every night from being COLD and had to add another blanket to my bed even after turning it back up each night. I can never understand how people can want it colder than that... but to each his own!!! bradk 03-27-2008, 05:56 PM i'm pretty sure housekeeping does it. i actually welcome it, although too cold is too cold. most hotels, if you leave the air on when you leave the room in the morning, housekeeping turns it off. disney actually keeps it going for you so you come back to a cool room. danyoung 03-28-2008, 08:18 AM ...disney actually keeps it going for you so you come back to a cool room. I guess we have differing experiences on this one. I've had the mousekeepers raise the temp up to 72-74 during the day. I even had to hand write a sign once, asking them to leave it alone (it only went down to 68, so every little degree helped come bedtime!). bradk 03-28-2008, 04:32 PM well, 72 is still relatively cooler than when it's 90+ outside all day. i wasn't speaking on specifics really, just that i've never stayed anywhere else where the hotel actually turned the air on or kept it going. i almost always have it on when i'm in a hotel and everywhere else, it's off when i get back which means i have to go through that room thawing process. Leslie 03-31-2008, 09:14 AM I hear if you keep a balloon flying around the top of it, it wont shut off. We wont have balloons but what if we left someting on it like a sock or someting? Would that keep it from shutting off? Thanks GusMan 03-31-2008, 09:58 AM I hear if you keep a balloon flying around the top of it, it wont shut off. Thanks The balloon moves around the room and the t-stat senses the movement, thinking that someone is in the room. So using something like a sock will most likely not work. Leslie 03-31-2008, 11:11 AM We'll bummer I guess I will be getting balloons then.:) Wendi 03-31-2008, 08:07 PM Good to know they only go down to 68 now... it was ridiculous when we stayed there!!! danyoung 04-01-2008, 08:18 AM Why would it bother you if the A/C can go lower than 68? For me, 68 is on the high side of comfortable. Ideally I'd like to get the temp down to around 65 or so for sleeping. But even if the thermostat goes way low, you don't have to set it that way. I'd really hate to see your summer power bill! :) danyoung 04-02-2008, 09:02 AM One of the many advantages of still being an apartment rat - low electric bills! They fluctuate from around $50 in the winter to close to $200 a month in summer. Still not bad, though. bradk 04-02-2008, 07:02 PM i didn't check to see how low it could go, but I just stayed at ASMo and it went at least as low as 60 danyoung 04-03-2008, 09:34 AM Good to hear, brad! pj4963 04-05-2008, 06:02 AM After reading comments on the air conditioning system at Pop Century I call them direct and spoke with Erica. I ask her about the the movement needed in the room for the air to work and the temperture only going to 68. She told me she had never heard that before but she would check with someone. She returned to the line and said that was not true.I will be staying at the Pop Century April 22-26, my first visit. When I return I will post my thoughts on the room and air conditioning situation. Enjoy your trip Leslie 04-05-2008, 06:46 AM Thank you and will look forward to that air conditioning report, as we are going to stay at the Pop last week of June. I need to have it at least 65' or I sweat. A woman thing..lol:) bradk 04-05-2008, 07:09 AM the movement thing refers to the poly. not POP. you also can't call the hotel directly. those numbers all go to a central location. danyoung 04-05-2008, 01:24 PM So here's the latest on the Pop. My room's thermostat goes down to 65, which is plenty cool for me at night. Whether it's the same in all rooms has not been proven, but it's a pretty good indication. And no, I don't need a balloon to keep things turned on - as brad said, that problem is unique to the Poly. |
